weather and night time...

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:58 am

does anyone know if the night is actually going to look like night in skyrim? In oblivion it was barely different and was like a grayed version of the daytime. It would be interesting to have deep shadows where it would actually be a little difficult to see... also i know the snow will be amazing with the ability to accumulate but will the rain do the same thing with the ability to create puddles?

I hope they can implement puddles, Red Dead Redemption did this very well during storms.

Ya, if the game is going to have the night vision spells and effects again. The dark better be REALLY dark so the contrast actually warrants the use of "Night-Eye" and stuff.

They have to cater to casual players. They also have to cater to many different screen formats. I bet you it looks a lot darker on a CRT monitor that is well calibrated.

I am one of those that really enjoy the "darker nights" mods for Oblivion, even though I usually tweak the lighting by hand because it's too dark for LCD monitors, and that's because LCD monitors typically do what is called "black crush" where all kinds of very dark colors get crushed into what appears to be solid black.

So, I'm not sure they will do anything about the nights. They could actually get away with making it slightly darker and upping the contrast just based on the fact that many areas will be blanketed in snow.

... And just so you know making night "grey" is realistic. The human eye in the dark tends to desaturate everything, because our eyes' rods are more light sensitive but not color sensitive. Our eyes also tend to prefer the blue end of the spectrum as the brightness lowers, so night usually has a bluish cast.

I hope it actually gets dark, so that you can't see any further than the light from your torch or spell. Way more intense.

Speaking about the weather, and not like RL when things become boring, but the excitement of Skyrim! The precipitation accumulation. Does this mean that while it's snowing, will the snow become slightly deeper? And melt away on warmer sunny days? (possibly leaving puddles, and/or ice patches)

I hope that if blizzards becomes extremely vicious they can sweet the player of his feet sending him down the mountainside into certain death. If Bethesda made nature more dangerous it would be great! Skyrim should not be a trip in the park! It is a dangerous and extremely harsh world.

Not to rain on the parade or anything...but I just turned down the brightness on the game. It made nights ALOT darker, and day time looks ALOT better.

yeah you could do that but im not just talking about it being dark i want there to be different levels of dark... like deep shadows and pools of moonlight through a gap in the canopy in the middle of the forest.
