Week 1 Crysis 2 Sales

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 1:20 am

And then there's about another 200,000 who just torrented the game.

Sounds like total and utter BS.

PC sales are low because of Pirates. Plain and simple.

They're low because the game svcks, and that's that. The people that pirate are the people that never buy games anyways unless they really like the ones they pirate. Essentially, they're not even part of the market nowadays.

Well, that's hard to prove either way, but it's pretty hard to believe that everyone who got the copy for free, wouldn't have bought it. I like this little website's numbers
http://kotaku.com/#!5435876/report-the-most-pirated-games-of-2009

4.1 Million downloads of CoD:MW2.

As the article stated, it's highly likely that it was a pure 4.1 million copies downloaded, but let's make it 3 million. Really hard to believe that if those 3 million people couldn't have pirated the game, NONE of them would have bought the game.

Piracy figures on PC can't be calculated. Anybody who says they can is talking BS because there is no way of knowing who gets the hack working or how many times the person has to dl the game to do it.

Yeah and its a 7:1 for Pc gamers.

On 1 Pc Gamer came 7 Console Gamer..

LOLS your math fails it's not even quite 6 to 1. Plus Crysis 2 is not even game of the month on PC Shogun 2 is.

This isn't a fair representation of numbers. Week 2 will tell more. Reason being, i checked the VGChartz figures on Wednesday when the first ones went up. Sorry, but the game didn't even come OUT until the Friday here in the UK. So a lot of the actual "week 1" sales will show up in week 2.

It bugs me how because a lot of PC Gamers buy digital copies, which IS the future of game distribution one way or another (even if box copies in stores only sell the licence keys which is semi being done with SteamWorks games on shelves now), then it doesn't show in these kinda figures. These figures are simply box copies shifted by the publisher, to retail stores. They don't count in EA's own Digital Store, or Steam's sales. If those were added, then the PC would easily have around 200,000 sales "week one", there were ample pre-orders on Steam for C2.

Week 2 we'll look at the PC figures again, hopefully this figure will show ~200,000 boxed, plus we know at least + 200,000~ with the 50-50 boxed:digi split. So by week 3 the game will probs be gold :)

If you want confirmation on whether Crysis 2 is selling digitally well enough, check the current Steam Top Sellers list. Crysis 2 is second only to Portal 2 itself, and we all know how well that game's gunna sell!

What? I'm not trying to "BS" anyone. It was just a rough guess...

Go to a torrent site and see 8000 seeds and 25000 peers, then calculate in a revolving door how many times Crysis 2 has been downloaded.

Why do you assume that anyone who couldn't illegally get the game for free wouldn't buy it? That's stupid.

Sure some people would have bought the game, if they couldn't torrent it. But, imo, the majority aren't potential customers.

All of those sales combined is no where NEAR the sales of Call of Duty. Cevat said he wanted sales near Call of Duty sale numbers. If that happens then there'll definately be a Crysis 3, BUT.....Crysis 2 hasn't done as well as he expected. Thing is that's WAYYYYYY to high of expectations Cevat had. If Bad Company 2, which is more popular that Crysis, couldn't do it, or ****, even HALO, then Crysis 2 can't. It's not because it svcks, its because of the low popularity.
It wouldn't have hurt if the game was actually a little good and less flaw ridden.

Crysis is a virgin series to consoles, and the exact opposite on PCs, Crytek gambled and lost, and were all paying the price, one patch at a time.

steam dont, but it is possible to see how much people played the game throught the day

as of today, crysis 2 had a peak player of 3605.

with a version so much consolized and no editor no wonder why it sell lower on pc
According to the Leaderboards there are over 160,000+ accounts on PC Multiplayer

Unless a game is SteamWorks and only useable with installation through Steam, looking at user boards for the game on Steam is useless. The game is also sold on EA Digital store, and obviously boxed copies world wide, neither of which would be counted on Steam, even if you added the shortcut for the game to Steam.

D2D sold a ton of crysis 2 because of 20% off.....Console FPS market is very competative with COD, Halo and GOW, killzone 3 etc

BC2 even being a console franchise was wholeheartedly embraced by pc gamers and I have hear that it sold the most on PC.
Crytek could have done the same and should have had a bit more creativity .

As DICE says you dont beat ur competition by copying them. You beat them by being better

Bad compagny 2 is some utter junk on the pc, heli and tanks drive unrealisticaly. BF2 was greater.

I just hope crytek gets the lesson. Dont **** on PC Gaming.

Maybe I can hope for a crysis wars 2 ?

- 1 PC user here

I had 100% of my money back last week

http://darkanima.altervista.org/Crysis2Fixed28.03.11.JPG

Now I can wait for a patch that works with a smile.
Then maybe when they decide to work seriously in Crytec and you can have fun with Crysis 2 will probably go back to the store and I pay much less

Obviously they didnt counted the DD sales. Oh and look it's VGchartz! that troll website, based on pure BS which shows original Crysis having sold 0 copies, even though CryTek released the sales number

I dont agree about that. Me my self i never buy games. but i bought all three versions of Crysis becouse i love the game's graphics and i want to support devs to make better games.

I love crysis 2 my self. I found it amazing. I dont know why most people complain about **** stuff like lightings and crap like that. Im missing physics in crysis 2 yea and envirements. But its logicaly they said them selfs PS3 & xbox couldnt handle such stuff so they were forced to reduce graphics. We can hope there will be custom configs & Dx11 enable in feature so we can enjoy even better graphics. In anyway Crytek Engine 3 is amazing. Its better then 2 ofcourse. We shall see what patches brings us. Untill then im going to enjoy multiplayer Crysis 2 :)

It won't have included digital sales, since it the stats were provided by a third party company via retail figures. The only company in any place to say accurately how many copies crysis 2 has sold on PC is crytek. Although since at least 50% of sales are digital, i'd say the PC version sits between the ps3 and xbox as usual.

1) So... because the game could easily have MORE players, but cant have less then that.... you are saying the numbers could be lower?

2) Did he say it was Steam's leaderboards? Im pretty sure they dont have a leaderboard for this game.... I sure as hell can't find it.

and finally (though unrelated), who the **** thinks VGChartz is worth their space on the web? Seriously...

Don't be... the game is great. Feel sorry for the console end. Remember... they can fix the bugs we get... but even reviewers have said AI issues are far more common on the console... I blame RAM, personally.

Kinda sad, since this MP when theres no hackers is pretty much on par with MW2 and MW1.

which is why I dont care for it... to be honest, I was far more dissappointed with the balance issues in DeadSpace 2's MP.... after all, I loved the whole L4D-esqueness it wanted to offer.
