Weekend beta doesn't have new updates?!?

Post » Thu Feb 27, 2014 12:19 am

so i recently heard that the all new features like collision detection will not be in this weekends beta. it kinda makes me feel a little disappointed. i was hoping to try it out but who knows maybe the dude is just mistaken (and for me this is the first beta i got into so its not that big of a deal to me). so what do u think about this? discuss

here is the vid, its around 3:50 when he talks about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxM6y2FPTLQ

Pretty much the exact same thing since all they want is to stress test their servers to have semi accurate numbers of how many people they can harbor, and reduce costs that way by maybe shutting down some servers instead of running them wasting power/money.

You should get an automatic update when you run the launcher. It's small.

Beta weekend has new updates, just not the leaked updates form the permanent test server. Those are still being tested internally.

Let's all be happy that Zenimax Online Studios is taking a considerable amount of time stress testing their servers so they don't run into the same issues that Diablo III or Simcity had.

Because major server issues will kill a game.

Welcome to "leaks". The new patch notes weren't meant to be seen by people not on the PTS, and were JUST added to the PTS.

PTS tests stuff before and more thoroughly than the weekend tests. Weekend test has to wait its turn, basically.

Not really, considering collision is better tested with large amounts of players, I'm surprised they didn't add it.

I guess they're not sure about how much load stress it causes or maybe it's not yet fine tuned for a big amount of people.

But again it comes down to see how much raw population can a server handle before it "bursts", adding the variable of collision that isn't fully scripted may mess with the numbers, so they went the safe road and didn't put it in. leaving that perhaps for next "open" beta for it to be tested extensively.

I understand we're just there to test the server load and login server...still, would've been nice to see what effect collision detection has on pve fights seeing as game release day isn't far away. Don't want any unwelcome surprises because things were only tested by people max level (because they've been playing the beta all year) and who don't have a clue or any consideration for what new players will experience.

I would bet they're planning another beta after this weekend, especially if they keep CD in. Maybe the second weekend of March provided CD tests well internally.

You'll likely see it in the next weekend test if it survives the PTS.

If you read your invite closely then you will notice that is says you will be invited to a future beta and can keep playing your same beta character. CD is in testing and may not even get into game at launch if there is problems with the internal testing. As mentioned, people see things that they are not meant to see and then assume that, thats the stuff being tested in the weekend beta tests. Wrong.

this. they already confirmed the existence of another and likely final beta, saying that it will be including in that beta.

Disappointed in hearing this too. Even from ZOS's side shouldn't hey include collision detection while stress testing?! The way I understand it, collision detection adds an enormous amount of strain on the server. Maybe the collision detection for the closed beta testers was just temporary.

They have been stress testing their servers since at least September. If they haven't worked out all of the glitches and found optimal performance targets in the past 5-6 months, they are unlikely to do so in the next month.

they are. the patch has only just been added to the PTS server and needs to be tested thoroughly before reaching the public.

they are testing the new patch, not old content.

as for performance. they have been adding more and more people to the beta each time. last beta having about million invited, this beta has about 4.5 million invited. I dare say it will be as bad as last time, but this is what they need to test to make the launch smoother.

Which is why there is still an NDA on the PTS.

Why should they add something that could put a colossal amount of extra pressure on the game when it might not even be around at launch?

It wasn't added because it might not exist soon. Personally, I hope it doesn't, its terrible and annoying and adds nothing to the game.

npc collision is nice though, any reason why you wouldn't want it?

They also have already pre-scripted the mobs to encircle you, now it's far more effective for them to do so and trap the players, feels like some real pve tactics there instead of "meh if this goes bad I just sprint away into the rainbow".

I don't think its nice in a game with potentially millions of other players. I like it in Skyrim, I don't like it in TESO.

edit: You'll see. Nevermind.
