WEEKLY Dlc?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 6:21 am

Why doesn't Fallout create weekly dlc?

About 2 months after the game comes out they make a small dlc and release it every Tuesday (a small 1 hour quest or new items and gear ect.) The two months would give them time to plan out the first few. A reasonable charge would be $1-$2.50 per dlc depending on the amount of content.

At the same time they have the larger team of Fallout 4 staff work on 2 or 3 very large dlcs to release over the course of 12 months+. (Ex shivering isles or tribunal size)

This would generate revenue; keep consumers interested, and make the wait for dlc more bearable. They can release graphical patches and support the game with bug fixes ect as well and include them periodically.

Why don't they?

Its not a bad idea but.....

People will scream Microtransaction money [censored]s at gamesas.

I mean the last "free" official DLC of the kind you describe was in Morrowind. http://www.elderscrolls.com/morrowind/expansions/!

A piece of gear armor, or a gun/grenade, per-month would be more realistic. Sadly I don't think any game company can afford to be this cool anymore. Monetarily or public relations wise, it's a negative in both columns now days, as messed up as that is.

Personally I blame facebook.

Because they don't? With modding coming to consoles, it'll be hard for Bethesda to justify a price tag, however small, on a small item pack; and it takes/costs more to do even small quests, since they have to put together and pay all of the voice actors - seems like they prefer just putting out a few big expansions that add all of that stuff anyway. I'd much rather pay for a $20 Dawnguard expansion with all the extra stuff, than pay separately for the Dawnguard questline, the werewolf perk tree, crossbows, Ancient Falmer Armor, and the Aetherium Wars quest. And it's much easier for Bethesda to distribute.

Well, if mods work they won't have to do any of that. People will fill that gap and Beth can work on their DLC... That might be a nightmare in itself. Since they are introducing mods to a console crowd who might not really understand how mods work, the forums will fill up with people whining that some of the mods they already have don't work with the new DLC.

OP just described the type of DLC which is the cancer of gaming industry. Essentially it's a horse armor. Fortunately Beth is doing everything distance itself from that kind and concentrating on bigger DLCs, as should every other developer/publisher do.

Battlefield did it, with their Season Pass you got the DLCs and some bonus stuff with it. Plus they released some stuff that was free for all, if I remember correctly. Even with modding stuff like this keeps appreciation up. Weapon DLCs included with a Season Pass are no problem in a singleplayer game. However it can turn bad if the DLC weapons are really superior and/or really iconic (Horrigan's remnant Gatling Gun or whatever). By the way, Gun Runner's arsenal had to be bought seperately and offered a dozen weapons plus mods, so there is your precedence right there. They can do it, and might do it. Free stuff (or at a reasonable price) like this might come for free to create attention. Doesn't really bother me, I pre-ordered the Season Pass as well. :D

No thanks, one of the reason I like Beth is that for the most part there DLCs are proper, big expansions, I prefer if they stick to that.

Nah, I'd prefer the game to be complete at launch.

'Hey, here's a cool armor great for level 5'

(duh, I'm level 8 now and have better stuff...)

Hmmmmm..

Well.... Maybe I'm just crazy, but I wouldn't mind paying a dollar a week for things like "weapon packs" or something.

Official ones, of course. No way I'm paying Bethesda money to download user-made content.

Haven't got around to playing that game.

Still. I do hope Bethesda regularly adds more features. Weapons, quests, etc. Even a simple weekly quest bundle would be great.

Yeah, I just wanted to point out a DLC scheme that is out already and is working quite well. Giving out stuff for everybody without preferring one or the other does not create a crowd that is feeling neglected or privileged. The Witcher 3 is another good example of how a DLC policy can work out better. And is more comparable as Battlefield 4 since it is another Open World RPG.

By the way, Bethesda's DLC policy I find a bit dubious for the past games, seeing Gun Runner's arsenal and so forth. I can not recall if they did release a season pass for their Fallout Games and I also thought they were a bit overpriuced considering what they brought to the game. I thought it was really bold to have such a low levelcap in the base game that you basically had to buy the DLC if you wanted it to stay an RPG. Let alone the fact that unless you had Broken Steel the game was suddenly over eliminating the most fun part of Fallout 3, the exploring.

Also let us not forget that Bethesda basically invented micro-transactions or DLCs. Darn you, horse armor! :D

No thanks. I don't want to be nickel and dime'd for content that should be there to start with. Word on the street is the game is huge with hundreds of playable hours to explore all the content anyhow.

Perhaps an add-on here and there, but give the guys with jobs and a life a chance to wear down the game a bit before reaching for my pocket and dangling more goodies in my face.

I also get suspicious of frequent (and early) DLC. is it simply code that was available at launch that was held back to parse out a few more bucks after the sale?

No just no. If anything this will make me cancel my preorder and wait for the GOTY Edition so I can get it all at once and not be nickel and dime'd.

the only reason you would buy DLC, its because you know it would be compatible 100% with your game.

Modders will fill this game with additional content like a tsunami.

I guess you mean the GRA DLC for Vegas? Still stands. I am speaking of Bethesda as both Publisher and developer. I would even guess that Obsidian (or generally developers) would be content if DLCs were either free or not included and would accept less revenue or profit from these sales as publishers do. I am not blaming either side here though.

For me, I rather have them release a full, thought trough game (not a Fallout 3 levelcap "desaster") and one huge add-on maybe a year later, than tendencially overpriced season passes and a constant flow of a smaller DLCs. When I get my hands on a game I want it to be great in every way, and however great Fallout 3 was, the DLC policy was a real handicap because it solved core-game problems that should not have been there in the first place. But as we will not get what I want, I am content enough with the season pass (especially since I think many DLCs for both FO3 and NV were great, yet short and limited) that I pre-ordered.

Modders fill this niche already.

Its a losing game when you have modders.

I'm ok if Bethesda Game Studios released DLC's for free in patches that add new armor, new quests, and new weapons, but not to charge $1 dollar (USD) for them or $5 dollars (USD) I don't want to see The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion $5 dollars (USD) Horse Armor DLC's or whatever again.

Just sell expansion packs for Fallout 4 like Bloodmoon for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Shivering Isles for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Point Lookout for Fallout 3, The Pitt for Fallout 3, Dawnguard for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or Dragonborn for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Personally I would rather see The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Shivering Isles sized expansion packs sold for Fallout 4.

Why bother with something like that? I doubt very many will have completed EVERY quest there is in the main game a couple months in. I'd rather have 3 or 4 really large DLC's that take us somewhere new

Yes agreed, I would rather they released quality DLC in the form of expanding whole new areas of the game, adding in more quests and loads more characters to meet, and continuing the development of game mechanics (like the settlement building). I would expect this amount of depth to take considerably longer than one week to create.

I would be disappointed if they released DLC that only had one week's worth of development put into it, like horse armour or a new hairstyle for one of my companions.
