Weekly Poll: Creatures

Post » Thu Aug 28, 2014 9:24 pm

This poll took longer than anticipated to make due to personal issues arising. I'm nevertheless proud to present it and plan to release one poll every Sunday now. Without further delay, here's the poll.

The creatures of Fallout: NV. What "bugs" you? This poll is made to gather data about the most pesky creatures in Fallout: NV. Bear in mind that though the word "Creatures" has an immediate biological connotation, they are not all in fact biological. In this poll, I will attempt to see how the community deals with creatures and which prove the most formidable, lucrative, or just plain annoying.

This poll does contain DLC content. I also apologize for the format of the poll, but there are simply too many creatures to simply determine the most and least hated. As such, I am organizing the creatures by their respective categories. In considering which creatures you most resent, consider their strength, drops, and any other factor you deem important. If you wish to say your all-time most hated creature in the game, do so in the comments. Otherwise, you will just have to vote and I will extrapolate from the data.

This poll does not deal with specific or named creatures. These individuals/"bosses" should not influence your choices. However, a variant of the creature (say, mother deathclaws) may affect your perception of the creature.

Please explain you answers and perhaps provide any particularly effective strategies you employ against creatures.

As always, keep the conversation appropriate and on-topic.

Note: There is no poll question on plants or plant-related creatures? Why? Because there are only two: Spore Carriers and Spore Plants. Neither of which is very powerful and I couldn't give fewer censored words about which is worse.

AND YES, THERE ARE ALIENS IN FALLOUT NEW VEGAS.

My main inspiration for making this poll (other than saying I would do it for months) is learning how people kill deathclaws. I find that melee DOES NOT WORK, I won't even consider unarmed, and I have yet to find a potent gun or energy weapon. I would imagine explosives are effective, but I do not find them in large quantities and am hesitant to subdue deathclaws with them. Does anyone know of a good way to get explosives or a particularly effective weapon?

Enjoy - Humanoids provide the most variety.

Resent - I don't like killing dogs, coyotes, etc.

Usually use guns.

Radroaches annoy me when they show up on the compass, appearing to be something dangerous.

Y-17 harnesses are weird and smell bad.

Nightstalkers are fast and dangerous, although they are kind of cute.

Tunnelers are creepy and dangerous, and not cute at all.

Deathclaws have killed me more than any other animal.

Roboscorpians are annoying bullet sponges.

Animal Friend so I can pet Nightstalkers, and not kill dogs, coyotes, etc.

As for dealing with Deathclaws, I have found Christine's Sniper Rifle and sneaking to work fairly well. Obviously from a distance.

The Riot Shotgun works well, if you have the shotgun perks. The LMG works pretty well too, with armor-piercing ammo.

One time I cleared out Quarry Junction with Red Glare, but that was with all 3 mods and Explosive Skill pretty high.

When facing Deathclaws up close, the first thing I do is use Slasher and Med-X. Better yet, don't let them get close.
