Weird glitch or problem - Help please?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:15 am

Hi guys!

I seem to have run into a weird problem with Morrowind on my PC. Some doors aren't showing up, sometimes not at all and I cannot enter some buildings in Pelagiad. I'm not sure what the problem could be. I've disabled any mods that interfere with Pelagiad, but to no avail.

I'm running Morrowind 1.2.... (no expansions) on Windows 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Kind Regards, CovertBike

EDIT: Also, I'm running Jared's (sp?) texture pack.

This looks like it might just be a problem with your Graphics Card. Some integrated cards work horribly with Morrowind.
This problem is called "z-fighting", which happens with some graphics cards. If you have an old nVidia driver, you can try updating it, because some old cards were affected for a while but newer drivers fixed it. Cheap Intel stuff also has this problem.

Cheers for the reply, Pluto!

However, a sub-par graphics card should definitely not be a problem. I'm running an ATI Saphire HD graphics card, 512mb. It's not that of a supercomputer, but it should be more than adequate. I'm sure I must be running the latest drivers, my PC is less than a month old!

Thanks

If the doors flicker (maybe depending on angle of viewing), then I think it might be as Pluto suggested, an incompatibility with graphics.

However if the doors just aren't there, it could be a localref problem. So I have to ask, are you running the MCP (Morrowind Code Patch)? Do you have any mods installed (if so, post your load order). If it's a localref problem caused by a mod, then disabling the problem mod will find it, and if the MCP doesn't fix the problem, the "renumber refs" feature of Wrye Mash on that plugin would probably fix it.

Thanks for the reply,

The doors simply do not appear. I am not using MCP or Wyre Mash. I do not believe any of the mods I am running interfere with the town of Pelagiad.

I ought to start using MCP and Wrye Mash. I've heard the latter is essential.

Since you stated that you are running "Morrowind 1.2.... (no expansions)" version, you cannot use the MWCP. It requires version 1.6.1820

Along with all the really awesome mods! ;)

Cheers Pluto, I appreciate your reply. I'll try and get Wyre Mash up and running ASAP. Hopefully that will fix my problem

The localref problem is a collision of reference numbers, it doesn't have anything to do with where a plugin modifies the game, so it could be any plugin you have loaded that makes cell changes. You should try disabling mods until the doors come back. And if they do, then the chances are good you have a localref problem and you can "fix" the plugin that is interfering with Pelagiad with Mash's renumber refs function.
