Weird magic(?) effect on self

Post » Tue Jul 27, 2010 1:58 am

Hi all!

Just started a new game and noticed that every few seconds there's a short magic-kind of effect and sound. Doesn't seem to do anything but it's really annoying. Any ideas how to disable it.

You're gonna have to be a little more descriptive about what's going on.... What kind of magic effect? What's the sound? Where are you? What are you trying to do?

It starts right after I begin a new game/load old one. I guess it has to be something related to mods because this is the first time it happens though I've played the game numerous times before. I made some changes to active mods list before starting the current game, but I'd rather find the easier way to fix the issue than to start building up the mods list again as they are working otherwise just fine and it's only a minor annoyance.

Pretty hard to describe it, since my english isn't so good, but it looks (and sounds) just like cast a spell effect, which creates a small purple puff around my character. Btw, I've checked the active effects list and nothing there seems to be the reason.

So it's only a small problem and could probably be easily resolved...

Are you using the Unofficial Oblivion Patch? If so, try opening the console and entering startquest UOP. Close the console again and wait for the UOP menu to appear. Click on 'Change the Area of Effect spell" and see if picking a different effect helps.

Didn't help. Good idea, though.

Then you may have to do this the old fashioned way. That is, disable one mod at a time to see which one does it.

It sounds like an enchanted item kicking in. Do you have any mods that add and equip an item automatically? This might be what is happening. A puff of purple smoke is likely an Alteration effect. (Shield, Water walking, or Water breathing)

If you add a magical item your character will briefly "glow" with the color of that item.

For example, if you equip a reflect magic amulet, your character will briefly glow purple (the mysticism color). Maybe that's it or at least related.

alteration magic is colored white, mysticism is colored purple.

Okay, managed to get rid off the problem by switching off supreme magicka, which is basically my only pure magic-related mod. Yet it's not quite the solution I was hoping for....

I apologize for bumping this thread up again, but I found out that the problem was caused by SM_NoPoisonLevitationEffect. Disabling the effect from Supreme Magicka .ini settings worked. Hooray!

Thanks everyone for help!

I thought restoration was white? I know the elemental shields glow the elemental colors, I can swear the shield effect is purple. I'm not worried about it though. Looks like he got it resolved.
