weird world map problem

Post » Tue Oct 26, 2010 10:44 am

I would need some help with a weird problem regarding my ingame world map.

I was going to try out a new map -just needed to put a dds in the right place as usual - however instead of showing up ingame, it messed up the whole thing. The world map switched to a colored version of the local map.

I tried deleteing the new map dds -did not help, activated the OMOD colored map mod - did not help, world map stays the colored local one.

I'm using Darnified UI but without the colored local map option. Even tried to disable and re enable this to make sure this option is turned off, but nothing seem to help.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

That world map is from Better Cities and it will look like that whenever you're in the Imperial City.

Sorry for slight hijack but that's awesome. Is there something like it available for vanilla?

You don't need any special mod to get a coloured map like that, there's a setting in your ini you can use. Look for bLocalMapShader under your Display heading, and change the value to 1.

Ah, right, thanks - tried it out once but decided to go back. I'll give it another shot.

For exactly what the screenshots are showing, no nothing presently available for vanilla.

That only changes the Local Map. The Better Cities Imperial City map is the World Map, not the Local Map, and only displays when using Better Cities, when in the Imperial City, when in a District for which you have installed the corresponding part of Better Cities. Most people who mention it do so because they want to know how to disable (uninstall Better Cities), no one's ever asked for it to be available without Better Cities.

Arkngt, are you looking for the Local Map to appear similar to the screenshot (in which case do as Belanos suggested) or for the World Map to appear like that when in the Imperial City (in which case no mod makes this possible currently, and no texture for the vanilla city only exists)?

Sorry for being late on this but I got a bit confused and had to check how it actually looks with vanilla - and then I switched to a colored local map as well. Yes, I really like the BC Imp City map so I'd certainly use one for vanilla. :)

One of the two modders making maps for Tamriel Heightmaps made one based off of the local map - that might do ya, but you need an esp to run it.

Psymon - that map isn't made from local maps, it's made from world textures; that's why there are no buildings on it, just the vertex shadowing at the places where buildings would usually be.

There are two maps I know of that use local maps for creating their world map:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2634 - this one even has a normal map on top of it to provide realistic shadows.
(http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23140 is based on the former but doesn't require it, and also uses the local map approach to add more detail to mod added locations.)
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14390 - this one is better concerning the size, but I'm not sure if it's possible to even use the big version of it (it'd probably need an edit of the CS settings for the Tamriel Map, since it's much bigger and therefore the player location etc. has to be calculated differently). If yes, then this is pretty much what you're looking for.

I love the Cyrdiil Terrain Map. I have not switched maps since I added, and I am glad there is an SI version too. It does have one little issue, but it takes 20 seconds to fix with Paint.NET.

I see. I was assuming that was a local map. The colouring threw me off I guess, it looks just like the local map with that ini setting enabled.

I hope this isn't digging up old threads, but I've recently gotten back into modding and Oblivion in general. Now, I get the same thing here, wonderfully colored map while in IC, but once I leave, and I'm outside in the world space, My world map does this :

Weird????? I can't seem to figure out which mod did this if any.

I can post a load order if needed.

You should read http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1115721-quick-about-map-scale/page__p__16382074__fromsearch__1&#entry16382074. In that thread, you'll note that Vargr has linked to his Elven Map Compilations Mod. You'll also need Merged Maps.esp

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah. I started playing with all the mods that would change the maps. I started on this quest last night when I needed to be to work in 3 hours. I gave up and slept for an hour and a half, showered, ate and went to work. When I got home, I set about it again, after I posted, I tried sorting through the mods that touched the maps. Found two; Elven Colored Map, Better Cities, and Elsweyr Colored Map. I thought long and hard and realized it happened AFTER I installed Better Cities.

Reinstalling the Elven map, fixed it...while the Elsweyr Map broke it. So, I pulled out GIMP and DDS plugin and started to edit the Elsweyr maps... Got one fo them done just to find your reply. Thank you anithinks. This kept me from pulling out the remainder of my hair!
