Welcome New Mods!

Post » Wed Jun 23, 2010 10:51 pm

That sounds pretty good to me, HD and myself chained to a bevy of pretty lady moderators. Yep, I could cope with that. :goodjob:

Yep, no complaints here :hehe:

When did you first become a mod? You seem to have been here longer than almost all other forum members. What were the forums like back in 2000?

The end of the month will be my eighth anniversary. :)

The forums were very different back then. I was part of the second group of mods brought on because the admin were having a horrendous time dealing with General Discussion, which was our OT forum back then. The problems escalated and a few weeks later GD was closed for the evening. This became permanent in part because of the immature backlash at the closure and in part because things really improved rapidly once it was closed. (The backlash also resulted in the image tag being disabled.) Community Discussion was opened about eighteen months after General Discussion's closure.

However if you want to discuss forum history you should probably open a separate thread on the subject since this isn't really on topic.

The powers of moderators still surprise me. You can edit your posts without any indication of them ever being edited, eh?

They can warp the fabric of the entire post/edit continuum! :obliviongate:

Yes, we have the choice of leaving an "edited by" or not. Very useful when we sneak in and ninja edit other posts. :D

They seem very nice, but must say I haven't heard of them.

There are far more obvious choices for moderators that I'm amazed continue to not be selected. I expect plenty current moderators would agree with my choices, too. However, I don't believe that the moderators have sole power to choose new moderators without going through the administration, so i would suppose that the selection process is very chaotic and containing many complex factors.

A shame - the last several new moderators over the last few years turned out to be such poor choices. These two new ones seem like nice people though, so all benefit of the doubt to them. Good luck!

Okay.

Anyway, congratulations to the news mod-s(don't think I congratulated both of them earlier).

P.S. I saw your edit, too. You are a sneaky lot, perhaps even spies...

I mostly use it to fix my typos :D

It's also good when you delete part of a post and then need to edit posts that quoted it.

The requirements for a moderator that we look for are probably different to those you look for.

Yes, admin approval is the final step in the equation, and they do take part in the general discussion, but as the moderators are the ones who are on the forums all the time we are the ones who notice members and make the recommendations.

I imagine that you need a certain amount of dedication to be a moderator. I see you guys on here for hours at a time nearly every day.

So far it looks like we get little less Alice Cooper and a few more muppets, but you're probably not too far off.

There are no requirements as to how much we moderate, we do it when we have the time. I am fortunate that I have plenty of time and I love being part of the BSF community and helping to keep it running smoothly.

What if all of the mods just so happened to take a day off? At the same time. Pandemonium? :flamed:

Then probably those requirements need to be changed. There must be something wrong with the requirements being used, considering how profoundly poor the last several moderator choices have been.

That said, I don't mean to cast a shadow on the two new ones, they seem nice and everyone deserves a chance so I'm hopeful that things worked out this time.

Then take it up with admin, don't bring it into this topic as it is not open for discussion.

You've heard the myths of the overly long threads, right? When the mods aren't all on, threads of massive proportion rise and chaos ensues. :chaos:

With two new mods, the chaos may not come as oftenly. :(

To the new mods, do you see the power you now wield? You must seal the bond by locking a thread, warning someone, banning someone, or changing a post. Go, your destiny awaits.
