Welcome New Mods!

Post » Thu Jun 24, 2010 12:37 am

No ones words are safe. WE MUST FLEE TO THE HILLS! :ahhh:

I hope the next April 1st features moderators editing the [censored] out of everyone's post to make all the threads and discussions look like romance novels or something. That would be epic.

What are the requirements?

The only hard requirement is that you be at least 18 years old.

Sometimes we're looking for people on at certain times of the day or in certain forums. The latter has gotten a bit tricky since these are often new sections dominated by new members. Generally we only consider people who have been here for at least a year, although there have been exceptions (Regulus and Blith_Ering_Idio but come to mind) and they worked out fine. Since I'm on the topic there's also no post count requirement.

It rare that we consider people who have been warned although this again isn't a hard requirement. There's at least one mod here who had a 25% warning level when he was brought on (for censor bypass if I remember). I don't believe we were allowing reductions at that time - now we are.

People who have really good reports tend to catch our eye but this really is a quality versus quantity area. If we feel someone is reporting tons of minor stuff in order to get noticed chances are they will be noticed - but not as moderator material. :)

I like to say that when we look for mods we're looking for people who have a positive impact on the forums. There are a lot of people who fit this and some get considered even if they don't get an invite.

What if all of the mods just so happened to take a day off? At the same time. Pandemonium? :flamed:

We have a thread for letting people know when we expect to be out of touch. If for some reason we were all going to be busy for some reason and Matt and Nick also weren't on hand they'd probably get someone in the office to babysit the forum for the day.

Can I apply? I fully expect to be able to start an illicit love affair.

Once you see the shared "accommodations" used by the moderator interns you'll see that "illicit" isn't really an option.

That would be funny, I remember on taleworlds site for April 1st was pretty good.

The clanged the forum censor to change Mount and blade to something else, along with other words.

(OFF topic)

That would be fun.

Rohugh towered over the women. "Poppets, the Banhammer needs polishing," he growled.

The artfully dishevelled moderators gasped. "But sir, that could take all night!"

Um, maybe someone else should attempt to write this.....

Rohugh am I right in guessing these guys have been recruited to handle the spike of activity because of fallout new vegas?

Not really, there are new games on the forums as Bethesda Softworks have added the new games that they are publishing, and with the general increase in forum activity it was decided some more mods would lighten the overall workload and give me chance to concentrate purely on banning all and sundry. :D

There would not have been a need for new moderators just for FNV release - HD and I could have handled that easily.

This is starting to sound a little like a sequel to The Lusty Argonian Maid.

I'm 19, I've been here more than a year and I don't have any warnings (at the moment)

I'm assuming the PM service failed to deliver the message from you guys, it's the only logical explanation I can think of. ^_^

----------------------------------------------->

On a more serious note, since this thread is already turning into a 'Ask the moderators a question' thread...

Have you considered recruiting forum-restricted moderators? Moderators who would only be moderators when they are in the sub-forum that they were asked to moderate in the first place?

Does that include emotional age? Gawd I hope so, it would sooo rule me out permanently.

It's the frankness of everyone admitting to their work environments that I find so cuddly around here..

As for accommodations... four foot cubed cage with shackles and a whopping [censored, it's a 13+ forum Andy!!](*) that rings like a cowbell if you move too much, right?

Spoiler
self censored :D

Someone said on here a long time ago if you were going to be considered for moderator you had to be on here for a year, over 18 etc but theres one more factor.
You have to have a certain sense of awesome. Hard to explain but things like being helpful to everyone and posting really cool posts I think make you appealing to being a moderator.

Rohugh, surprised by the expressions of sheer shock on his colleagues' faces, replied: "Fear not my brethren! There is dirty work afoot, but we need to stick together! Remember what the modgods told us - those who wield their banhammers in unison shall prevail, those who fear the task set forth by the powers unknown shall perish into the great mist of forum horrors and will never get to just ask her out!"

Yeah, let's stick to making the new mods feel welcome and at home rather than discussing the things I (may) do with my banhammer. :)

Awesome is cool but someone living in the UTC+7 or UTC+6 time zones would be awesome.

It's come up a few times but at least for now it seem unlikely. It's fine for someone to limit their attention to a single section but it's still better to keep them as a general mod.

Heh, I've been reporting everything I see that qualifies as "rule breaking" for months now, so I can only hope you guys stopped thinking I'm doing it for attention a while ago. ^_^

I'm pretty sure the combination of my temper and my warn level help ensure I'd never be considered for a mod spot. And considering I don't handle power well, I can't say that's a bad thing. :whistling:

Also:

I can't post after 200 and not lock the thread so it looks like Greenwarden and Falchya will have to fight over another thread.

Can't, eh? My fellow members... at long last, we have found a weakness!!!

I don't know who these two new yahoo's are, but I fully expect them to uphold the standard that are these forums (feel that pressure baby(ies)). Historically, the moderator choices have been fine. Proof to me is I've never been asked. :P

If there was a warning system in the olden days, a couple of moderators (that no longer post) probably wouldn't have been active members. ;)

Just asking, what's the total sub-forum count up to now? 45 forums? :P

Giving you a BAN hammer is like giving a flame thrower to a five year old. Entertaining at first but ultimately counter productive.
:P

He's also addicted to daytime soaps :whisper:

Spoiler
Although the latter of the previous isn't true (that about the flame thrower was I'm afraid..) I'm more than happy to make stuff up on the spot and float malicious rumors into the world :P

Have any of you mods ever considered getting drunk and banning everyone you see?

Also, did anyone ban that person who censor-bypassed the other day?
