Well I've gone and done it

Post » Thu Feb 13, 2014 12:57 am

I've made the mistake I have been trying not make for the whole of the development time for ESO - I grabbed a beta invite through Curse and played for 3 hours on Sunday night (just 3 hours).

This now means that I'm going to be insufferable until it is finally released and I can get my hands on a full copy of the game I have been desperately trying to ignore exists for a long time.

My appetite is now well and truly whetted and I am going to be a right pain to live with because I just want to play it continually. I've netted so many hours on the single player ES games (many hundreds) - and even more on WoW - and now they have finally combined (sort of) the two into a product that I suspect I won't be able to put away.

I managed to get to within 2 months of release and that, in itself, is probably the biggest surprise to me. I suspect I'm not the only one who has done something like this too and just wanted to express that I am looking forward to playing this game from release a great deal.......after just 3 hours worth of play in the starting area (and from what I've heard the first few hours are not the games strongest suit!)

Surely this must tell something to the nay sayers and doom mongers?

It really screws with your brain having to stop playing and go back to your old game. Nothing seems to feel right when you get back.

Collector's Edition is a little pricey for me unfortunately as I'm on a tight budget for my gaming - but I shall enjoy the Standard edition none the less. I just hope I won't regret my lack of funds down the line as I see an Imperial walking past me in game. Still - I guess you can't have everything in your virtual life (or I can't anyway hehe).

It might speak to potential (or current) employers. There are companies who know they can (and do) have the ability to find out who plays how much games to determine if they want to hire/promote you.

In my city, several companies (including Pro Resources and Manpower) have screened "against" MMO players claiming their lifestyle creates unmotivated, burned out employees who call in sick all the time.

Just something to think about.

Thankfully I'm a shift worker - 4 on and 5 off. I like to get my hours done in larger lumps at work so I can enjoy more hours at home. I don't suffer with high sickness rates either but I can see what you are driving at. There are definitely some MMO players who take things too far.....I just normally seem to keep myself beneath the dotted line and hold down a job, keep my missus happy (mostly) and spend time with the kids (although my son is now a committed World of Tanks player so he is starting to become a chop off the old block).

The line can get distorted from time to time - but my wife keeps me on the straight and narrow :D
