Well, I learned how to Fly.

Post » Sat Aug 17, 2013 12:29 pm

First off I'll state: I play on Xbox 360. So no, I did not use Mods or Console commands to achieve this.

Through my tedious study of completely useless exploits in Skyrim, I've come across a very Interesting one: I have achieved Flight!

I cannot really prove it visually, for I do not have any Image capturing device, so I will have to just teach you.

Requirements:

-Telekinesis (Spell)

Spoiler
This spell can be obtained by:

-buying it from http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Tolfdir when your Alteration Skill is at an Adept level

-Found in http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Redwater_Den

-Found In http://uesp.net/wiki/Dragonborn:Benkongerike hiding under a bunch of "Lusty Argonian Maid" books.

-a Specific kind of Bucket (See spoiler)

Spoiler
There are 3 kinds of Buckets, and only 1 of them works for what we're doing.

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120908013432/elderscrolls/images/f/fe/Bucket_00012fdf.png

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120908013433/elderscrolls/images/thumb/1/15/Bucket_000747fb.png/368px-Bucket_000747fb.png

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120908013433/elderscrolls/images/thumb/1/16/Bucket_000747fe.png/380px-Bucket_000747fe.png

You want Bucket #3, the Tall one with a Metal handle in the middle, because this one seems to have a unique trait: It is not affected by Physics caused by the Player Character, making it a sturdy object to stand on.

Location of one of these Buckets: http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fort_Neugrad, Once inside, go to the big room with the Dining tables, there's one right beside a Door to the left.

-any City Guard shield, or Hide Shield

Spoiler
Shields are used because they're one of the few Items that are Flat, and can be moved when other Items are in contact with them.

These specific shields work best because they are the most Flat, however the City Guard Shield is considerably the best since it is even more flat. Hide shields are easy to find, and a Whiterun Guard shield can easily be obtained during the quest "Dragon Rising"

-Alteration Dual Cast Perk

Spoiler
This perk is needed because dual casting Telekinesis is the only way to get a sustained lift off. It does this by moving more than 1 object as long as they are in contact with each other.

-Alteration cost Reduction Enchantments

Spoiler
Without these (unless you have Infinite Magicka for some reason), you're not going to be flying very long. Telekinesis drains your Magicka fast, especially Dual Casting it. I made enough stuff to make Alteration Magic cost nothing, that does seem a bit much to do, but come on, we're trying to fly here.

Procedure:

1. Find a flat surface suitable for lift off

2. Drop your Shield on the flat surface

3. Drop your Bucket #3, and place it on the shield Right Side Up decently close to the center of it. (Placing it Right Side Up is decently hard due to Bethesda's genius way of handling items when they turn upside down right when you start dragging them)

4. Jump on top of your Bucket

5. Equip Telekinesis in both hands, and aim down at the shield (make sure your Cross-hair reads the name of the Shield)

6. Dual cast Telekinesis on the Shield, and hold it as long as you want to continue flying!

7. Don't look Up during this, you want to continue to look mostly down if you want to keep standing on your flying Bucket

Now it is possible to control your direction, It is a hard maneuver between Aiming and Walking, but you will mostly go Up.

Have fun with my weird contraption! :D

All of this is mostly in interest of Console users, as PC users already have easier means of flight.

Edit: Oh right, and if you want to live all of your Sky Diving expeditions (since you can't use "Become Ethereal" in Mid-air), Collect a decent amount of http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Netch_Jelly, and Eat it right before you land (you cannot receive Falling damage when you're Paralyzed)

I am going to try that on my high level with free magicka and 1000 points of magicka (which is no longer needed really)

Don't suppose you have a location for that bucket.

Oh for a moment I thought you were a first time player and tried killing a Giant.

Massar was a lovely place to visit. Barring the smell and lack of air of course.

Lol, the Giants do love sending me to the Silver Sands of Llesw'er.

I was eventually able to return the favor with the Exploding Arrows glitch!

But yeah, I no longer need the Giants help with my new Rocket Propelled Bucket.

Trying to think where I found mine, Hold on.

Edit: There's one in "http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fort_Neugrad", You go inside, and once you're in the large Dining room, there's one right by the Door to the left.

I am sure they are actually quite common, likely within caves. I figured someone in town would have on, especially perhaps a guard barracks, blacksmith, or if I was lucky a trader might be selling it...

Thanks, I'll go check there. I haven't been there yet on this save.

They're not that common, I duped the one I had a ton of times.

Mainly because after your 1 flight, it's not likely that you're finding your bucket again if you survive the fall.

I don't intend to survive the test flight.. beyond that, I may use it as an elevator for places...

I see potential for this... of course the second attempt is annoying being stubborn with the bucket, i had it in seconds the first time...

It's fun to just shout "Rocket Man!" while doing this :o

I had to show Nazeem up by flying to the TOP of the Cloud District, Bet he's never been on the roof of Dragonsreach.

Indeed.

I had an issue with my telekenisis randomly stopping, though I also managed to fly minus a shield, just less reliable. though this will definantly be useful on my magic thief, can't catch me if you can't climb up here

Yeah, you will launch the Bucket if your Cross-hair is too far away from it.

Yup :)

When I was checking if Fort Neugrad was the right place, I walked back outside, quickly placed my things, and Flew away from the incoming bandits. It was fun seeing the Fire bolts and Arrows whizzing by as I made my great Escape! :D

Odahving said something about not having the wings of a Dovah... well with this we can fly. Makes me wonder how a dragon would react to you flying around.
