Well it looks like I hit the 3GB Maximum RAM limit

Post » Sun Jul 28, 2013 8:08 am

It looks like I hit the 3GB RAM Usage limit for skyrim, it explains all of my random crashes to desktop.

I used the performance monitor mentioned in this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyTDCCCYuZk

So any suggetsions for mods I should remove or is there a way to raise the RAM Usage cap?

Are you using a 32-bit or a 64-bit operating system?

Just asking, because the official High-res texture pack is incompatible with a 32-bit one, and would automatically lead to CTDs without a 64-bit OS.

I don't think anyone's found a way around the 3.1 GB cap.

Have you tried ENB creator Boris Vorontsov's new http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/38649/ thing, isn't that supposed to reduce RAM usage?

Don't worry I am on a 64bit OS :D

I am not using any enbs so I don't think that will help me, thanks though. :D

I found Warzones caused a lot of CTDs, but I also have SkyTEST Realistic Animals and Predators (I was playing a Ranger for the Stormcloaks) and they both add lots of spawn points.

I took Warzones out as it hasn't been updated for over a year and there have been multiple patches and changes to the way papyrus works. The scripts were baked in as the civil war battles had lots of extra soldiers that vanished when they died, but no spawn points and it was fine after that. And starting a new character got rid of the scripts.

Also, if you use lots of texture and graphics mods there is an optimiser that makes it smoother on lower spec systems at Ultra with virtually no visible quality loss, so you could try that to boost performance. I have some friends who say it's amazing, although I don't need to bother with my machine.

The problem isn't with my machine, it is with skyrim. Skyrim can only use a maximum of 3.1 gbs of ram, I have 16. I can run the game with no lag at all with all of those graphics mods usually.

Maybe try disabling the Hi-Res DLCs and use other HD texture packs instead? I've heard the official HD textures are poorly optimized, but I don't know if any of the other packs are as comprehensive.

Grasping at straws here, but if you have a very bloated save file, that may indicate, that some mod may be recklessly creating new items in the world without cleaning them up, or something like that, also using up memory in the process. If such a mod exists in your list (and I cant even guess what it might be), that would be a natural candidate for removal. Unfortunately, that may not do anything to your memory usage issue without starting a new game.

I suppose I don't even need them enabled, I have so many texture mods that almost everything is covered.

You can disable all of ENB's graphics if you don't like them and still get a performance boost.

To my understanding that doesnt matter. If you install it it will still lower your memory usage, though there is still some issues with AMD cards not getting the proper memory usage. I'm trying it right now and my game does seem to run a bit smoother.
