Were you happy with the GameInformer podcast information.

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:30 pm

I was very pleased - of course there were other questions I would've like to have seen asked, but it wasn't like they could ask him everything, or expect an answer for everything seeing as Bethesda seem to want to spread out the info up until the release.
I must admit though, I would've liked a bit more info about guilds - I'm really excited to see which ones return and which ones are new :D

Incredible. Everything he said was gold (except perhaps that my main feature in Elder Scrolls, Alchemy has been moved under security/stealth skills. Not too worried though, it's gonna be awesome as long as there are lots of ingredients to pick :celebration: ).

What's the latest word on attribites, I think it wasn't mentioned in the podcast. In or out?

He did say that Alchemy was the "most magical" of the stealth skills, I think. And those categories are essentially meaningless now anyway.

Yeah, no mention of attributes at all, even when answering a question where one might expect them to come up (about racial benefits & differences). I really hope attributes are in, but I'm almost as curious to learn how they could possibly have designed the ruleset without them.

I have to say I was happy with it.
Tho I wish he just came out and said if wereolves are in or not, I mean they did well off in daggerfall and MW so why does he think they won't be at this time now in Skyrim?

Definitely. At first, I was a bit worried when he mentioned the removal of specialized weapon skills, but I got over that as soon as he explained how perks work. It really does sound like we're going to have insane amounts of potential character builds.

Oh, and the fact that dragon battles are going to be epic. I assumed that these would be hack 'n slash vs a massive bullet sponge, but I think I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Looking forward to it more then ever and liking how Bethesda has chosen to take out content (possibly mounts to name one example) that is not only time consuming to implement and perhaps not get right like Red Dead Redemption but instead devote more effort into the new and as I view it improved skill system with the perk system and perhaps adding content like spell creation or spell combinations before final release (Werewolfs also come to mind).

My only complaint really and its a minor one (Theres plenty of that here as it is) is the ability to summon dragons as a major power and would have instead prefered where it was perhaps the last dragon shout and serves as a plot element of the central story and not being able to summon a dragon at will. But overall I'm looking forward to Skyrim and must say that Todd knows how communicate with the consumers (fanbase) even if many of them would like to see him on the stake.

I would like to learn about however later in the year (maybe mid august?) about the fellowing topics:
-Will polearms of any sort be included in the final product
-Is Lycantropy going to be in the game come release date and if not will it be like Bloodmoon and come with DLC
-A list of skills in the game (Hoping for light and heavy armor myself personally)
-Will there be any customization with spells
-And to what degree will enemies and loot be leveled relative to the character

I thought it was great, with a lot of cool info and clarifications. There's only so much they can talk about right now, as they have a schedule as far as releasing info is concerned. The only thing I really wanted confirmation on that was not included was the removal of stats. It seems pretty likely that they are not in, but I would have liked it confirmed.

Loved the info about the magic system, it sounds like they are working to make it more fun. I feel pretty positive about the werewolves, since they are working on them. Thought the mounts info was interesting and understandable. All in all, I was very pleased with the information we got.

Happy with most of it. I can understand not putting in features that they can't get to to a satisfactory level. I'm a little worried that alchemy is getting a raw deal.

Info is great.

He said that spears are not in, in the traditional sense. That means I think that there might be polearms but not just a stabbity spear.

The're giving out info, and its still early days, relatively, so I can't complain.

One thing I will say, is that the guy had had a pre-brief. No discussion about level scaling, and reading the GI comments, that was by far the no1 comment, way more than werewolve nonsense.

Also the perk system seems incredibly good.

INCREDIBLY GOOD, much much better than just uping skills.

I am interested in the dragon portion. The behaviors sounded cool. They should should implement that "summon dragon swarm" as a fun gaffe. Take it to a major city to have some fun. The perks are starting to concern me though. Sounds like you can "rank up" most/all perks. Usually that means they are pretty generic I.E. passive +5% fire damage. If that is the route they are taking I call BS. It's unimaginitive and lazy developement. I would prefer the perks to be a bit more spectacular or character defining. The whole point of streamlining skills would be to add something else of value to the game. I don't want an empty shell of a diablo clone. Like Borderlands.

You can only get 50 perks at the most per character, there is 280 perks. So how do you think that you can rank up all perks?

'twas a reasonable podcast... but it seemed like Todd clearly didn't want to get into new information and they just elaborated on info that had already been released.

This was both good and bad - bad because it made it look like a lot of stuff could be "missing" from the game, but good because perhaps he was just playing dumb and they will shock us all in the coming months with super-cool info.

I am happy with it.

Good news: Enchanting
Bad News: confirmation of the size.

I don't really care about the size anyways because Oblivion and Morrowind are perfect to me.

I'm disappointed that they didn't ask Todd about the different pieces of armor you can equip, surely they've read hundreds of posts about it.

Yeah it was cool i dont really care what comes in the game and what not,but from everything ive heard so far i praise the manner of independent thinking or somthing like that lol, i mean they do it theyre way they think its best and gives hope on a unique game in the end.

On a sidenote the Spears thing i dont care much yether but is fighting dragons with Spears not a traditionaland effective way too battle a dragon ??

Someone should of ran in there Tommy Boy style, covered in road flares and wiring, demanding an answer on spell creation.

Most of the questions that got answered were stuff that we already knew. I was glad to hear about spears and face creation, though.

Todd seemed to dodge the question about spell-creation...

I′m a bit dubious about the companions, and affraid there might be no "hi-yo silver!!" (horseys)
I enjoyed the rest of the information very much

Yes, and the new perk system can add a lot to customization. Spellmaking might be out but at least enchantment is in, and it sounds like the new character creation will be far better than the one in Oblivion. No more ugly face generator.

I wasn't impressed by the podcast itself, but Todd is so good at talking about his games that his enthusiasm and insight more than made up for the poor questions.

Agreed

Yes radiant AI sounds pretty much like a random quest generator, a magnitude more then moders has touched it.
However I find Oblivion far more repayable than Morrowind because of the randomness, Morrowind play after a couple of years became to much of a checklist, only real checklist in Oblivion is to do the Mage guild recommendation and get Martin to cloud ruler temple early.
Stopped playing Morrowind then I found I had picked the mushrooms needed for the first mage guild recommendation quest in the staring town. And not remember that I had done it.

Correction: Radiant Story. Raidiant AI controls NPC behavior and decision making.

Definitely. At first, I was a bit worried when he mentioned the removal of specialized weapon skills, but I got over that as soon as he explained how perks work. It really does sound like we're going to have insane amounts of potential character builds.

I look forward to dieing many, many times. :ahhh: :dead:

I'm pretty certain they are withholding some really cool stuff for both the game and the modding tools.

Todd seemed to dodge the question about spell-creation...

They made it too easy for him by muddying the question with the mention of crafting in general.

Overall I'm very happy with the info and it further confirms my suspicions about many things such as companions and leveling.
