Were you happy with the quality of Crysis 2 at launch?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:44 am

***For clarification, this poll refers to the quality that Crysis 2 was released in - before patching and before announcements of DX11 and mod support.***

Answer the poll and leave your comments, and most of all, are you happy with Crytek's change in platform focus from the PC to the consoles with Crysis 2?

I myself was so disappointed that I never bought Crysis 2, I am interested in seeing other opinions as well. :)

Another question... Would you purchase Crysis 3 if you knew it would be launched in the same condition as Crysis 2?

- Thanks! :)

I answered no because of the myriad bugs in sp and especially mp. The dumb AI and "on rails" COD story telling started things off on the road to disappointment, but then I tried to play MP.

Not including anti-cheat software, the problems trying to start matches, the module reset bug, amongst other frustrations, was just not acceptable. Bugs are to be expected with any game at launch, but its fair to say that Crysis 2 was shipped in an almost beta state. The lack of dx11, sandbox, and the horrifying "press start" at the loading screen, just added insult to injury.

Up until now, it has seemed that Crytek had indeed sold out to the console world, but the recent patch announcement, the forthcoming dx11 patch, and the news that sandox 3 editor is to be released, has changed my outlook about Crytek. I am starting to believe in them again, maybe the PC version will finally get the attention they said it would.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

As a clarifying statement, this poll is to gauge how satisfied the community was with the launch of Crysis 2 - pre-patches and pre-DX11/Mod announcements.

A good indicator on how satisfied you were is to ask yourself, "if I know Crysis 3 is going to be released in the same state as Crysis 2 was, would I pay $60 for it?" If the answer is anything but yes or shows signs of hesitation, then that means you were disappointed somehow with the quality of Crysis 2's launch.

The reason I say yes is because of how responsive they've been to the community *as far as patches and general complaints go*. Truthfully, they've given us priority over the other communities as far as post-release support, (6,000 threads, i wonder why), and have kept up with their promises (you can't fix anti-cheat though, ya need community management for that, but vote-to-kick is in soon).

Yes crysis 2 is the best video game made. it has the best graphics and sound and production. no one even comes close. its multiplayer is far above any competition and the single player is jaw dropping, this is truly most amazing game ever.

i love the game, and if crysis 3 woud be releasd in the same stade as crysis 2 i woud pre-order it( and wait a month to start playing). the sp( even better than crysis or warhead) is fun and the mp also (exept for the cheaters, "but if you com acros a cheater just leave" is the best advice)

btw i dondt like the mp of crysis wars becaus if you joind after a few yaers the gap between the "pro" and "noobs" is to big, also the maps are to big.

No. There were countless bugs, both in single and multiplayer (some were trivial issues as well). These bugs were evident in the demo (beta) and very little nothing changed between then and release. Some server sided structures weren't even completed (forums, game servers, account system).

I blame EA.

No. The reason why? Crysis 2 didn't feel like a Cry game and was VERY disappointing on the PC.

For me Crysis 2 was also a disappointment, but the recent announcements made my hopes high, so now I am thinking with modding support & DX11 this game can be a true CRYTEK game!

No. With Crytek's bad communication out of the gate knowing full well the communities expectations, bugs and the list below. I think they could have done so much more to show they will continue to support the PC community and the game by patching it to make improvements.

- graphics
- advanced options
- limited controls compared to the original
- levels to limited (linear)

I think they should have left the Menu options and controls the same and improved the graphics. The story is interesting but I'm very dissapointed they got rid of Nomad and Psycho. It could have been such a better story if they were running missions along side you in the game thinking you were prophet even.

Basically Crytek could have been more transparent with what the reality of the situation was. There would be a lot less distrust and outrage around the whole thing. They are cleaning things up now and that's good...I hope they keep it up. Simple actions could have made the experience for the PC community so much smoother in my opinion.

As far as the game goes, I was and am so very dissapointed.

This ^^ Sums it up for me. I do not feel it is a $60 worthy game. Maybe $30 after it had DX11 in it however it is a generic console shooter ported over to PC and I was and am dissapointed in it.

Yes! Awesome graphics, and more optimized. C2 maxed looks way better and uses way less power than C1 maxed. Awesome music also. And the gameplay is also sandboxish like C1, even though less destructive, which abit dissapointed me.

Wanted it a little bit more like crysis wars with some vehicles....... Bigger maps, the rest is ok besides a lot of bugs. I want to configure my custom **** offline, not during matches.

It's obvious this game was rushed by EA. I'm starting to think Crysis 2 was originally slated for a summer release with DX11 and Mod Tools at launch.

**** EA. Can't blame Crytek when it comes down to this particular point.

Crytek themselves had an inappropriate release slate... Anyone remember Holiday 2010? Exactly. EA definitely probably had to do with refusing to give another delay but Crytek was originally the one to have a completely unrealistic release date.

There are a quite a few small errors in the multiplayer that I disliked but overall the game went well for me. I have seen on forums many reason why people disliked it and if I had that many issuses I think I would have felt differently. Overall I love the gameplay, didn't really play SP so don't know much on that, and graphics are pretty decent and able to work on lower powered pc's.

Talon, heres my opinion, no, i wasn't happy, the game was a rushed unfinished shooter, i didn't mind it was a console port, because it is the best console game, but the game had a bajillion bugs, and at one point, saves went through pruning and actually erased my progress. The most noticeable is not being able to stab after dieing. But after hearing words actually coming from Crytek officially, im somewhat happy to see they didn't leave PC gamers in the rain.

And wait........, Talon,.... you don't own Crysis 2?

LOL is this topic a joke or something? Only the hackers love the game! This is the first game that they don't have to worry about getting banned. Unless you count a whole hour.. they sit around in that hour and play some more with the CFG files. the game will die without a proper Anti Cheat!! they should have bit the bullet and went with Punk Buster! yes yes i know Punk Buster don't work 30% of the time but if it catches you! your gone GUID BYE BYE! and you do eventually get caught!

How can you leave the main cfg files open without encryption? and explain to me what the heck is your anti cheat crytek? is it someone that looks at the leader board and smack the leader on the bottom and say now now play nice? Cause i know for a fact there is not a single Anti cheat program implemented in the game!!!

In my opinion Crytek made a great game, it was only hindered by the fact that EA is their publisher. EA made Crytek implement some very questionable technical design decisions like the infamous lack of advanced graphics options and placed Crytek in a position where they had to rush to get the game out by March 22nd. The reason for this is because Medal of Honor had been EA's main priority for Q4 2010, immediately following this this event would have to be a blockbuster shooter for the first quarter of the year. As one can imagine, this put Crytek into operating on crunch time as they were forced to release the game on the exact date of March 22nd. I suppose if EA hadn't been breathing down Crytek's neck through the whole development process then the bugs and lack of design decisions would have been addressed by launch day.

They are redeeming themselves though, with the DX11 patch on the way and the SDK coming to us in August I'm sure Crysis 2 will have been the product it should have been on release day. We have to remember to patient, after all S.T.A.L.K.E.R:Shadow of Chernobyl was an extremely buggy game on release day yet the PC community still held out for patches and look where it is now, one of the most beloved PC games in the past four years.
