Werewolves and Wereboars

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 3:38 pm

As you know, you can become either a http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/f/f0/Df.Img.Race.PortraitBackground.Werewolf.gif or a http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/6/62/Df.Img.Race.PortraitBackground.Wereboar.gif in DF. Since I've never actually became one, is it worth it? What are the adv/disadv?

I remember in MW I found it a bit hard to be a werewolf since I killed civilians, and unlike DF they were not unlimited in supply!

If you don't mind making a tasty snack out of an innocent person every now and then, being a werewolf gives you some serious stat boosts that stay with you even in human form. And unlike vampirism, you won't "die" in the process of becoming a werewolf, and therefore won't lose your guild affiliations.

You will be spending some time forced into werewolf form. I'm fairly certain that happens a day or three out of every month, but I'm not sure. I'm fairly certain it isn't an every night thing, like in Bloodmoon.

Ah I see. 1-3 days a month is much more realistic and better than every night like in MW.

Hope I get bitten ;)

And the game won't punish you for fast traveling when it happens to be days when it's a full moon by either weakening you, or cutting it short.

If you get Hircine's Ring, you'll essentially become a walking instrument of death with none of the lycanthropy drawbacks. Become a werewolf; they look way cooler than wereboars.

Yeah I heard about Hircine's Ring (know about it from MW).

I have no idea how to get it in DF, but I don't want to know. Want to find out on my own :)

I also want to become a werewolf. Is it easy to pick up the disease? How do I know if I picked it up? Will it give any sign? In morrowind a writing would appear saying "you've contacted sanius somethingus" Also, I made a character as weak to diseases as possible taking critical weakness and answering question. Does that help?

make a save game before you get bitten. fight a werewolf and don't let him kill you, then run away and rest. You should dream of a man who is not quite a man. If you have, do not visit a temple or cure diseases on yourself. 48 hours later, you're a (furry) instrument of death.

If you want to guarantee infection, go into the void, fall for a really, really long time (I mean, like, go make lunch or something), and then hit Alt-F11, the sign-bit-flipped falling damage sending your HPs skyrocketing. Then let a werewolf chew on you for an equally long time. I guarantee you, one of those hits is bound to infect you.

Lycanthropy is pretty fun in Daggerfall, if only for the stat boosts. One of my characters was infected at level 3 or so, but was able to clear some pretty large dungeons without any problems due to them. One thing I wish, however, is that towns don't desert when you transform. It'd be so fun to go around chasing after townies and guards with impunity as a werewolf.

Another catch to being a werewolf (though I consider it an advantage since it's quite fun) is that you will get a letter from a werewolf hunter who offers you a chance to cure yourself or feel his wrath. If you decline the offer, he sends enemies after you every few months. Good fun! :D

I made myself a custom regenerate health spell and let the werewolf wail on me. If you have an enchanted item that heals, that should work too. The longer you can survive the werewolf's assault, the better chance of being infected. As IAmTheRad said, once you're done with the werewolf, find a place to sleep and you should have a dream right when you sleep. If you don't get a dream, then you're probably not infected.

Okay, another problem. I seam to keep running into those werepigs. Don't want to be like that. Those things are ugly. Where could I find wereWOLVES? Or is it just my bad luck that I've yet to find one?

The first guaranteed werewolf I am aware of is the one Cyndassa (the maid through the rear left door in Daggerfall Castle's throne room) sends you to kill.

I've managed to become a werewolf (resting in the countryside for 1,5 real time hours did the trick) :D But if I have to kill an npc every 15 days, can I kill it in normal form or do I have to be in wolf form? Also, any tips on surviving as a werewolf? :P

OR... if you DON'T have at least 150,000 gold pieces (yeah, that's what it would take), here's what you need to know. Every now and then, you will find yourself unable to heal damage. Go kill a villager or a guard; that'll clear that condition. I'm not sure if it has to be done in Werewolf form or not; there's a really easy way to find out. Once a month, you're going to spend some time as a wolf whether you want to or not. Otherwise, surviving as a werewolf is fairly easy.

Do people attack you in human form if they see you transform like in Bloodmoon? Or does that not happen in Daggerfall?

The towns desert when you become a lycanthrope. :(

So I guess you have to kill the innocents in your human form.

Nope, the game will continue as normal except that any time you enter a town(fast traveling, crossing the border and leaving a building all count as entering) as your were form no townies will be spawned, though changing while in town will not cause the townies to vanish. When killing the townies to keep your health from dropping any method should work fine, though transforming is a good idea as this prevents the guards from trying to arrest you and you won't lose rep with the law.

So, if I kill somebody in wolf form and then transform back, the guards won't come after me?

Watched movies and surfed the web while a pair of werewolves wailed on my wanna-be werewolf Nord Ranger. Every so often alt-tab back in, heal myself. Every not so often, kill them and rest. If not infected, load from save and repeat. Going on 8 hours now, still no luck. :(
