Werewolves&Vampires 2

Post » Fri Jan 01, 2010 7:29 am

I'll mention I want both, but not as they appeared in past games. They've been pretty lukewarm before, little more than a palette swap and a stat boost (for powerful characters in Morrowind, quite possible since it was second-expansion territory, being a werewolf could actually make you weaker in combat). What I want to see is something that makes them fundamentally different, as well as an actual affliction, instead of just a buff with almost no downsides.

As far as social rejection, somewhere in-between would be good. In Morrowind it was kind of obnoxious that glowing eyes made you a universal pariah no matter how covered up they were, and it was equally obnoxious in Oblivion when basically no one cared. Supposedly Cyrodiilic vampires could blend in, but tell that to the notorious ugly-old-man-face. Even at the worst stage all you got was the occasional nasty remark. A way to hide your condition, and a less universal reaction that could let you wear a different disguise or go somewhere else, would be nice. Also good would be if the AI were advanced enough for layered reputations and recognition; if you're discovered in a town where nobody knows or recognizes you, word doesn't spread to areas where you're popular. If no one in Town A has heard of Jim Jones, how are they telling everyone in Town B that this vampire they spotted is Jim Jones? Suspicion would also be a cool addition, such as guards searching you for weapons when approaching royalty or wanting to see your face in town if it's shrouded, and they're actively looking for someone (wanted posters). I would enjoy hiding out in poor sectors riddled with plague, where nobody looks for long, where people covering themselves against the cold or to hide their own diseases is common, where I don't have to worry about catching anything myself thanks to the vampirism or worry about guards particularly caring about the dead homeless. I could sleep anonymously in a poorhouse during the day and slip out without questions during the night to hunt.

As for feeling different, you could try giving a werewolf bonuses to things like climbing (if implemented) and bashing damage to objects, in addition to any strength-based boosts. Dismemberment, in reality, is not easy or common, and it shouldn't be in combat (again, if implemented), but with claws and superhuman strength would probably not be so hard to lycanthropes. Imagine a werewolf rapidly scaling the town wall, ripping out the door to a house, and tearing the occupant's arms off as they raise them in self-defense. That is a beast you don't want to screw with. Instead of the "one kill per night" limit, you could have something similar to the breath bar/suffocation effect, where the meter ticks down the longer you go without spilling blood and starts to harm you if ignored. Not nearly as quickly, of course, but it would help add some aggression to the form and make it feel more like playing a frenzied monster.

And of course, downsides. Vampire and werewolf hunters, for example. Professionals, who are an actual threat to ME, and not just more cannon fodder with a different equipment setup. A danger of losing equipment during a werewolf transformation, instead of it all sticking in my fur or something like Bloodmoon. Vampires needing sleep during the day, and the sun being a deadly threat at all times (immunity in Oblivion made me cringe).

Well thought out post. Becoming a were needs to become an alter ego or another being altogether. It can't be your with some bonuses and negatives. I liked the way MW made life hard without being able to stay in the sun long or use several merchants. But to your point, I think disguises, makeup etc should be able to be used for a day of shopping. I also think the sun must do damage to the point where it's painful to go outside. Game planning your day as a were, would be important. Calculating how much time it would take to go from point A to B and whether it was worth it. I also like the idea of taking over a cave, completely dark and making it your home. You could feed from this location, sleep during days etc. The vampire families or clans, should help with services and what about them selling you coffins, blood, capes and other things that would further what you have become? I think all we're asking for is a little depth to in-character playing.

I have nothing against playing pC games in general but I just can never get into it with any games I have tried except if I can place the movement controls on the mouse/trac pad because using keys just confused me since half of them you end up not using with most games.

Ok my kitten is staring at me thru the glass, I think I said something wrong O_o

This may be a little of topic... but do werewolves age or are they immortal like vampires? Also are their wounds healed when they turn back to human form or not?

On topic: I would love to have vampires and werebears in the game. We already had werewolves so I won't be that mad if they aren't in the game. Most of all I want vamps and teddies to be rare. I don't want to meet them at every step. I don't want to have almost 100% chance of getting infected. Also It would be nice if you didn't know right away that you got the disease. Make the character have nightmares or some very serious stat penalties like in daggerfall.

Also, I would like to be able to talk to were-creatures when they're in human form. I want them to hide what they are and if I have a high speechcraft then maybe I can manage to get them to confess. I also want them to run away during transformations, not shapeshift on a busy street where everyone ignores them. I also want some bad-ass transformation scenes.

I agree but we never had werewolves in Oblivion and they are not Confirmed by the devs for Skyrim so we don't know if we have them yet

Werebeasts are extremely Nordic. Bring 'em on.

I'd be interested to see the Skyrim variant of vampire, neither Morrowind nor Cyrodiil.

I don't understand the "Neither Morrowind nor Cyrodiil" part...

That's perfectly fine by me. if this is the case, and the anims and models are in the game. the mod will be up within the first week.

I know you all love your mods, but I'd prefer it if you gave some consideration for us console players. We just have to take the game as it is.

I hope they are reading too, I want Werewolves to be in this game. :P You can read of 'em enough, they're around, so why couldn't players run into any? I don't see why not, there are things that take a whole heck of a lot more time and work to incorporate into the game than this.

I wish you had made a pole in addition to the question.
But yes, I'd love to see werewolves, werebears, vampyres, and even something new like weremammoths or weredragons. Oooh, can you imagine a weredragon?

Hircine would have to Make it first. All the lycanthropes he's done so far are werewolves/bears/boars/lions/sharks/vultures and crocodiles.

To add in werepires or were dragons would require an entire re-write of ES lore.

Firstly it is impossible for a werewolf to become a vampire or visa versa due to the natural disease boosts that come with both diseases. Both in lore and in game.

If there were going to be weredragons hircine would have created them back when nirn was young and they were still plentiful. Besides hircine is lord of the hunt and in his sphere are the werecreatures which hunt and are hunted in an endless cycle by hircine and other weres.

Most of the creatures hircine created into were form are animals that would be considered 'game' by hunters. Wolves, boars, bears, lions. Even crocodiles. The thrill in hunting is not the actual fighting and killing of the beast, it is in the tracking and actual hunt for the prey. A weredragon would not follow on these rules as they would be extremely easy to track and the reward would come in the slaying and fighting of the beast not the hunt that lead to that point.

From this standpoint weredragons do not exist because in hircines mind they do not reflect a true creature "of the hunt". Leave the dragon slaying to adventurers

Thank you everyone for oosting, I will make a 3rd topic of this (mostly for devs to see it and just to see more comments) when the time comes and I will add a pole to that one than, what should be added to the pole? Something that can accually happen in game on the 360/PS3/PC versions , I can't see my character turning into a weredragon i

Thinking about Vampire hunting.
How about a hunter faction that deals with all things like Vampires, Werewolves etc?

Factions for vampires are a must. I'd like to see one for werecreatures too but not sure if it's possible in the lore.

I think it would be awesome if when you crouch as a werewolf you would go down on all fours for creeping stealthfully or running like a beast.

That would be so cool, very beast-like. I think this fifth TES game could use more of that, more beast-like stuff, I mean obviously there will be all that stuff focusing on Nords and such, but besides that.
