[WIPz] Westly's Head Replacer (for lack of a better title fo

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:39 pm

After a bit of agonising over choice, I have selected (and reworked)
the hairs for the Bretons for the pluginless replacer:

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/BRETON_F_M_Hairs.jpg

I chose the ones that are shown based somewhat close to the feel
of the originals (but most definitely in the same colours). So, for example,
when looking at the original "01" Breton female hair, it reminded
me of a "bob" style, so I chose a Pixie cut, but ould change it to
an actual "bob". Of course the deviations are quite obvious, but
they work well in game (so no worries).

Not shown is the "old" male balding style (but no worries; it is in the
replacer ;) ).

Of course, when the full replacer is complete, most will have a unique style
if not a unique colour of a shared style :) .

I just need to cobble up a README and these will be the first released :twirl: .

'Til Later, All

Did I just hear the word "released"? :D Also, I LOVE that first hair style. :D

Awesome. One of the things that I never really liked about "Better Heads" and the added hairs was that it wasn't as close to the originals as I hoped.
You good sir, however, are a great job at staying faithful to the originals.

npc replacer when these are finished, yes?

seem's kinda pointless to make all player character heads when nobody really looks at their own face.

He's already said a couple of times that this will be a pluginless replacer for the head models themselves.

You underestimate how much some people care about this stuff. I'm not particularly picky about face, but I prefer my character to look good in 3rd person even though I hardly play in 3rd person.

Oh sweet video-game vanity Who cares that you can't
see yourself when you know that you look sweet?

I only play in first person, but I'm always hitting the tab key to check myself out.

Not to mention I want to look good in my character screenshots :D

Oh, sweet video game vanity indeed....

Mmmmmm, well, that is the point in this thread, afterall
However, I always play in third person and frequently take a look
at my characters (for screens and more) :) .

I have decided to wait just a bit on releasing these so that I can
package the High Elves with the Bretons (as there are about the same
amount of heads and hairs for both of these races). So just a bit longer,
but very soon on the release (cross my heart and hope to "cry").

Here is a look at the female High Elves:

Looking excellent, Westly.
Are you doing the Beast Races, too? I can't recall that being mentioned yet.

Naah, its just a bit of painted noise and speckling with a slight
plasitc wrap (makes for wonderful somewhat realistic pores :) ).

I will not be doing the beasts in a pluginless fashion, but they will be
addressed in the main replacer :) .

Those Altmer look great! My only suggestion would be to elongate the elven faces a bit. The originals were always a bit longer than humans.

Because of the Altmer's height+thin weight, the new head meshes will "squash" in, elongating automatically :) .
I do plan on applyin the textures to other meshes in the main replacer, but for the pluginless, these work, as
they are easy to make the hairs fit without too much effort ;) .

That is indeed quite a realistic effect. I thought you might be sampling from higher res images. XD

I have learned quite a few little tricks in Photoshop today. I shall try to keep this one in mind for future reference. :tops:

I'll try these on a couple of meshes (and maybe include optional
meshes that prefer one head type over a a different one :) ).

Work on this might be slow this for the rest of this week, but I have a
few afternoons free next week to pick a few hours here and there to
continue on these ;) .

I don't know if you are looking for constructive criticism but i will go ahead and share my thoughts anyway. :P

I think the texture over all is to noisy (which probably wont be to noticeable in game) and the multi colored swirly bits under the eyebrows and on the cheeks look rather odd. Just my thoughts, do as you please. :)

Nahh, the texture is not that noisy (I've had no complaints from my neighbors yet ;) ). The pic
(now updated) is basically the first stage any way, so even more detail will be added that will
draw away from the "noise" (though I added none, as those are natural pores on this one for
the most part). As for the swirly bits, Bethesda did 'em first, so I am just keeping with what
they did so as to maintain the relationhips to their original heads ;) .

I see, well I think bethesda did quite a few things horribly wrong, especially mapping most of there original models. :banghead:

Anyway, I understand this is suppose to be an upgrade of the original faces in which case your doing great. :goodjob:
