[WIPz] Westly's Head Replacer (for lack of a better title fo

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:26 am

I thought I would go ahead and make a WIP thread for this, as it has been quite a while since my
last headpack thread was locked. This project seeks to replace most of the NPCs in Vvardenfell with
unique faces while still being compatible with any pluginless replacer that might be floating around or
yet to come. Many of the heads from my previous head packs will be recieving "face-lifts" (specifically
scheduled for drastic change are many of the tattooed Dunmer faces, my Breton females, Imperial females,
High Elves [male and female], and all of the Orc faces [will be come more "orcy"]). All of the previous
textures will see some form of change though. so if you have a real favourite, back that texture up as
a new file with its corresponding head). In addition to the new heads, there will also be many, many new
hairs (incorporating the Corean hairs as well as a great number hairs previously unreleased that I have
been converting and cobbling together like a mad man :D ).

Now, bear in mind, this is a long term project for me (two years working on it is seems). So do not expect
an overnight release as I want to get these just right.

ATM (or rather several months ago), I began working on the Redguard males that appear in Morrowind
(sans expansions). Here is a look at the heads that I have so far (but have many more waitng in the
wings to be cobbled). Many of these make use of previously unused head meshes that are, perhaps,
better suited for Redguards than I have used in my other packs:

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/WAR_xRG_HDS_GRP1.jpg

I hope to keep working on this all the while I am making other mods. As I understand my limitations, though
, and for the sake of gettting the mod finished for all those who are waiting, I might be inclined to
recruit a team to take on some of the "work" (by dividing the heads up racially among the team with
one person focusing on a specific race rather than trying to bounce from race to race). This is just a
thought ATM, as right now I am probably not close to implement such a team effort (and am
happy to do most of the tedium myself right now, so no worries).

'Til Next Update (might be a while, though ;) )

UPDATE Tuesday, October 20, 2009
I am working on a pluginless replacer as a base ATM (that will stay very true to the look of the original heads, but at higher resolution with extra details added based on the "Original Heads Revamped" from my MHP, but taken to a better level). So, essentially, they are "REvamped-Revamped". I will release these in a modular fashion 'til all of the stock heads are replaced (including the expansions). Then I will bundle them all together in one download for eas of use and access. The heads, when finished, will be OK to use in mods :) .

First up, the Bretons (with the original Bethesda heads on the left for comparison):

UPDATE Friday, November 06, 2009
I am almost finished with the High Elves (the vampire heads are the only
thing left to cobble). Here are a few in-game pics of some of the High
Elf heads and hairs on respective NPCs:

UPDATE Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Again, I used the original stock textures as a base for the
new versions; I gotta say, though, the original textures, by
themselves, look little like they do when they ended up on
the original meshes :).

I'll bundle the Orcs with the Nords (when I get 'round to 'em)

A few Nord NPCs:

UPDATE Wednesday, November 18, 2009
I started on the Orcs [Females] tonight (well most of the afternoon really while I was
waiting for a kiln to finish firing). With these, I had to basically start from scratch, using
the originals for inspiration (as to the placement of scars, highlights, etc). Ultimately,
though, these look like "my style" orcs (if that means anything), though still have the
intrinsic feel of the originals if one looks closely with an open nature without trying to be
too critical (as I like them, so surely others will as well). But don't worry, I'll do the same
for these as I did with the High Elves and relase the new textures on the original meshes
(for those that like their Orc females with and elongated/horsey-type face ;) ).

Anyway, here is a screen of the first Orc Female face:

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/WAR_ORC_F01_1.jpg

Now that I more or less have all the base layers for the Orcs females, all of the Orc females
from my previous packs will recive makeovers (to give them a bit of gruffness overlayed ontop
of their femininity; beauty within the beast, if you will).

UPDATE Saturday, November 21, 2009
I have finished up the Orc heads to my satisfaction (mostly. I think). I still have the vampire heads
to address as well as the hair choices. I hope that I have these finished before next week
(if I do not it might be a while before I am able to finish due to the compounded Holiday Season).
Nevertheless, I will continue to do my best to get these released in a time appropriate manner :) .
That said, here is a look at the heads as well as the one hair that I have completed thus far:

Your WIP thread deserves a happy dance, release date irrelevant.

Yay, finally a thread for this! Can't wait to have it, but I guess I'll have to. Finally, my character won't be the only good-looking person in the entire game sans companions that I always update to have your heads/hair. ;)

But of course I have (noticed) ;); the information is still valid, though (not much will change
and a new thread will be redundant 'til I have something new to show). For now, my attentions
as far as Elseworlds! goes is devoted to Melisande's Menagerie.

It's great to see new realistic faces, I have all your mods running in my MW game, so a NPC replacer with your style will be more than what I could wish!

I have a small question about the hairs, will you include the wonderful hairs that came with Exiles of Akavir? (they were Oblivion's Saram race hairs, weren't they?)

Best luck with this project Westly! :goodjob:

Indeed, those hairs and more will be available in the replacer (and as a separate mod for
those that only want to make use of the hairs wihtou having to use the replacer) :) .

Well the only thing I can find wrong with them is: they?re all exceedingly pretty. Would be nice to have a few evil/ugly/old chaps amongst them if you want to replace all NPCs in the end. Oh well. At least in my case, there?s always at least one upgly chap.
The one in front of the screen.

Can't wait to seem what you have up your sleeve, Westly.

There's that one dark elf face you made that has a bump map look to it... I like that. Are you planning on making more like that one?

They are based on "regular" people (not celebrities or models), so they are not
intentionally designed to be more attractive or less so (they just look
as they do). If you find them more pretty or handsome, then I guess
it has more to do with perspective than actual level of attractiveness ;) .

I plan on replacing many of the tattooed faces with that style, Marbred,
as well as designing specific patterns for some of the ashlander faces :).
I might include your faces as well (they seemed well suited and players
can make a game of it by trying to guess "http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Extra%20Mods/WAR_MARB_SCREENS1.jpg" :D )

I think the faces naturally look more attractive because they usually end up symettrical and free or blemishes or discolouration. I do dislike a lot of head replacers because of this, as despite the effort and quality that went into making them, IMHO the shinyness they have doesn't go with the bodies, vanilla or BB (the one I use is from about 2003, as its the only one that doesn't turn the dunmer into supermodels).

Westly's heads always seem to fit into the game, and there are a lot of average looking people in with all the prettiness, so I personally wait with great anticipation of the release. Good Luck with the project, Westly!

I like the left most head on the second row, the expression on his face is freakin awesome.
But why does that face on the bottom row look so scared?

I'm looking forward to seeing these in game.

West, Didn't you have that "Master Head Pack" deally??

What would it be that you have to create that wasn't already created? If not mistaken there were a bazillian head's that looked just fine to begin with, it seemed.

Those Redguards look promising. I can't wait to see them released.
Westly, do you plan to give them actual frizzy hair, afros, braids and such? That would be great...
As for the Mer races, I have a suggestion/request: red eyes for all dunmer and dark ones for all bosmer, like in vanilla game.
