[WIPz] Westly's Head Replacers (still working on a better ti

Post » Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:16 am

Yes! Looking good mah man :D Did you manage to work on the Bosmer Hairs yet?

Yes and no...

I have, actually, made all the hairs for the Wood Elves.
However, I made way more than needed for the replacer (so
I still need to go through them and decide which ones best
suit the pluginless and then include the rest in a separate
pack). I did not want to post pics of them til I am able to
make up my mind as to which ones will be in the pluginless;
this being that I do not want to be misleading at this point by
posting pics of things that would not necessarily be available
in said initial pack for the Wood Elves. No worries, though,
as it is easy enough to pick the proper hairs, so screens
should be coming ASAP ;) .

I have been able (thanks to the rainy weather) to finish up
the Redguard female heads...

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/WAR_RG_F_Before_After.jpg

So far I am satisfied with them (though I still will make a few
minor adjustments to them such as making the highlighted areas
a bit more pronounced/contrasted on the new textures as well as
making a few head shape deviations [right now they use a similar
mesh, but a few will be changed for variation's sake]).

I hope to have these finished soon (but, as with all things for me
lately, it will be a "slow" soon ;) ).

Take Care, All

They look stunning Westly, to be honest I think that the races that require this sort of upgrade the most are the Imperials & Orcs but this faces are so good that I might include the Redguards too, just one suggestion; on the first head the one thats a recolred Breton, the eye "shadow" might be a bit thick, and Im under the immpresion that its supposed to look like a heavy make up ala Cleopatra http://countonjessica.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Tina-Turner-als-Cleopatra.jpg more than a pronounced shadow
BTW is this going to be a single file with separate folders for each race? If that′s so I would say that one way to fix your Wood elf problem would be to include a separate "optional" file with some of the more radical hairstyles

Nice! :) As we say at one of my art sights, you'll have it out "DAZ soon." :P

I think this is a brilliant idea. Modularity is best ;)

As far as the Wood Elf hairs, it suits me best just to make an
initial decision as to what is covered in the pluginless and then
include the rest later; modularity is a good thing, but there is a
point when the possibilities for such could be endless, so I draw
a line in the proverbial sand to stop myself and continue from there
in the most efficient and productive manner that is possible for a
perfectionist creative type with ADHD :D .

With the rain this week came more free time to cobble, so here
is a look at the "mostly" finished Redguard Male Heads (I say
"mostly" as I may or may not add the "hair" to the new mesh/
textures in the same fashion as they were added to the
original meshes/textures):

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/WAR_RG_M_Before_After.jpg

Now all that is left it to cobble the Redguard hairs and then
a release will closer on the modding horizon :) .

'Til Later, then; Take Care

Looks great Westly they show great character, just one observation the second to last original face redguard has a kind of kind of goatee look going but in your retetexture he looks like he only has the long mustache, otherwise they seem great.
Oh and one more thing, I installed the orc pack a few days ago and I can say that the females look magnificent, but the textures of the hi res skins you made for the females & the muscular look for the males has a green noticeably uh greener look than the one used for the rexteured heads. Your heads look magnificent and i cannot wait for the dunmer

I've grown so used to Vvardenfell Visages that it's going to take a while to get used to these new faces on familiar NPCs... But it'll be worth it! :D

They are awesome indeed, and I think it′s cool that they are so close to the original heads, but looking 10 times better!

Westly is saving the Dark Elves for last, isn't he? I think he mentioned he wanted to do a really good job on them or something, not that he doesn't not not do a good job on the ones already. lol

Westly, are the Redguard hairs done already? If yes, it would be neat if you could post some ingame screenshots of male and female NPCs. :tops:

Wow. I think these redguards are some of your best yet - in terms of accurately translating the expressions and features of the original heads into something high rez (which must be so hard! - getting blueprints from those blurry monstrosities). Your interpretation of that last male head into something speckled and rheumy-eyed is genius. Period.

I am very glad you all like what you see so far as they were really fun to make. I spent most of today adventuring (in real life :) ), so I am only just now finalising some of the hairs (so no screens just yet). I have run into a bit of a quandry, though; there seem to be two bald hairstyles for Redguards, so I can either make two of them like the original or sub one of them with a new style that is nearly bald (maybe a fade or a close cropped hairstyle). The female styles have been easy enough so far save for the "spiky" style (the males have it too). I want to best emulate this close to the original, but I may have to reinterpret it altogether :). At any rate, as soon as I have pics I will show them (promise ;) ).

'Til Later, All

Maybe replace one of the bald hairstyles with a short mohawk (something like http://wiki.olc.edu/images/a/a8/Turok.jpg, perhaps?).

I think I'll go with the fade style for the pluginless, but include a mohawk
style later (as I'll be using it for sure with the Dark Elves, so I'll wait til I
begin working on those to cobble it up :) ). Its raining lions and wolves
again today so I will most likely have time this afternoon to work on these
more (but for now, I need to trudge to my studio and do my best to get
some actual/RL work finished :D ).

I hate the idea of the mohawk. Obviously I'm in minority here, but please, Westly, everything but this.

1) It's ugly.
2) It's not a common haircut among blacks.
And there's a reason to it. See 1) above.

The original texture of the second head from bottom (on your montage) has something that looks like a short haircut with a side parting. Why not try and emulate this instead?

I do agree with you, Afroking, that the mohawk is not a very flattering style on anyone with curly hair (especially tight curls); it ends up looking a bit too dense if left naturally compact (though I did give a soccer teammate in college a "Frohawk" for one of our games and it did not look too bad [but it was also bleached then dyed green, so that might have detracted from the actual aesthetic of the cut :D ). However, it could not hurt to make one a playable option for those that want to give their Redguards a mohawk (assuming a bit of relaxer and smoothing lotion is used for the meshes that I have :D ).

Whiled the torrent of torment is going on outside (and I will wait for it to let up before walking to my studio), here is a quick cobbling of the fade style...

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/WAR_RG_FADE01.jpg

Hopefully this will not look too out of place where an NPC might have once had a bald head to begin with :D .

Looking good, Westly. I have to concur with Afroking, a Mohawk is not a flattering hair style. Including it as a player option is fine, but I wouldn't recommend having it one of the default hairs.

Nice! My only complaint is that the texture around the chin and jaw-line seems 'stretched', though you only just made it so I'm sure you'll fix it :)

I agree on Redguards, but it seems to be a popular style among Dunmer, especially Ashlanders. :) Historically, it was also used by Native Americans, Celts, Tocharians, Chinese, and other tribal groups, so I wouldn't mind such a style for my tribal sort of character. :)
