Hmm, well I'm not too sure about this, but I believe that there IS a Mohawk available for male Dunmer in vanilla Morrowind.

There is, but we're talking about Redguards and not Dunmer. :)

Hey, Westly, you know what caught my eye first on this pic? It's the ears. I think it's the first time I see ears that looks like ears in Morrowind. :D

lately I made a custom bald hair for a female Redguard companion of mine, by editing a mesh from a headpack in my data files folder. I had a hard time finding a mesh whose ears were not a solid brown polygon...

But I digress. I like the new hair, but I find the color a bit too "greyish" (does this word exist??). Maybe make the texture a bit blacker?

I can make the hair a bit darker, but I do have to preserve
some of the highlighting else it is just a solid black texture
rather than being hair ;) . On my compy, it looks dark enough
ATM, but, as monitor settings differ, I don't mind just a bit more
black being made more dominant :D . Ultimately, though, I am
doing my best to keep things the same levels as Bethesda's
textures (and judged these by the other dark hairs textures
and, in most cases, only made them a bit more dark so that
the contrasts stand out a bit more :) ) .

I'll get back to cobbling as soon as possible; right now the sun
has just come out, so I think I am going to go outside and
get a few things finished for RL's sake :o .

Hehe, exactly what I thought. Very luxurious after encountering untextured flaps so frequently.

Dreadlocks would be neat for redguard males.

Here's a look at the new Afro/Full hair style; I did my best to make it
more realistic by making several alpha'd layers that alternate the hair texture
(as the UV was basically a square, I simply rotated the UV for each
layer to give it a more varied look even though one texture was used).
This allowed for a more natural look of hair that has been teased out :D.

The females also share this style, but in a more red-brown tone (so I will
adjust the style appropriately and perhaps add some earrings).

I'd elaborate more on what I exaclty did with the style, but I am typing
this in haste as I have to run to the store and do a few other late errands.

I'll try another version of the Afro tomorrow with some bushy
sideburns (and a head band for my own edification ;) ).

That's all for tonight, though (as I am beat and really need to
get some rest; long day tomorrow and all that jazz)

Hm... it reminds me of 80's sitcoms as well. :D
The technique is okay, but the actual haircut could be reshaped a little bit. If it was a bit shorter in the back, it woul look much, much better. (I actually also think that less polygons might look better, because right now the afro is too circular... in my opinion. And since the detail isn't in the high polygon count of the haircut, but in the clever use of texture layers, it wouldn't hurt to put some edges back in.)

Nah, why would you say that? http://www.itzcaribbean.com/images/afro_hair_styles_uk.jpg, you know... :disco:

Westly, any way to make http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/3329/redcircles.jpg transparent? So that the skin shows through. This would look much better, I believe. :goodjob:

I'm your boogie man, that's what I am.
I'm here to do whatever I can.
Be it early morning, late afternoon
Or at midnight. It's never too soon
To want to please you,
To want to keep you
To want to do it all, all for you
I want to be your, be your rubber ball.
I want to be the boy you love most of all.

No worries; Already done ;) (I just made another layer and recessed the "base" hair a bit more into the head so that those particular parts that you highlighted no longer show up). I have one style left to make and then the Wood Elf/Redguard Combo pack will be ready to for a release (hopefully by Sunday, as I still have some things left to test and screens to take, etc). Then onward to the Dark Elves and Imperials (those should actually take less time, that is as long as I stay one a roll and do not hit another slump).

For fun, here is a look at the fro with some thick sideburns (will probably be released with the larger replacer, but not in the pluginless base)... http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/WAR_RG_FRO_02a.jpg

That's some fourth degree side burns.Maybe it should be a little bit smaller and nice job on the redguards. :tops:

I actually really like the burns. It should be easy enough to edit the filename so that it works with the pluginless replacer, yes?

What I mean is that those afros aren't perfect circles. However, the base model of Westly's afro is really close to a perfect circle, and I think that having some edges here and there would make it look more realistic.

About the Afro with sideburns... well yeah, it looks like that guy from Pulp Fiction. I can see Bretons and Orcs with sideburns, but Redguards just look too modern with them. (Also I'm pretty sure that those oversized afros first came up in the 20th century, so I'm not sure I'd want to see them in a game that's set in a medieval fantasy setting.) Of course, you can release what you want, but as you said it's probably best to put it into the larger replacer, and make it really rare.
Personally, I see the Redguards more like a mix of old Islamic cultures and African cultures. Dreadlocks and braids would be alright, but the most typical hairstyles for Redguards should look like they came from Arabian Nights. (Or like the ones you can see in the "Redguard" comic book.)

The fro was always a "popular" style in Africa (maybe not to extreme bulk, but it is a natural style); from a western perspective it may seem like a modern style, but it really isn't (just brought to a certain visually discernable popularity at a certain time in American history). But any ethnicity with a tendency for naturally curly hair can mantain a fro (speaking as one who, if I let my hair grow out, would have an "Isro" :D ).

As for the style that I have shown, I have done my best to make it as realistic as I was able (rather than a chunk of solid hair with no depth at all). This hair mesh (which began as a style already included in Better Heads) suited the texturing/layering method the best (as I did try it on other more "angular" meshes and it always ended up looking even more low poly); the style is "round" but not perfectly round at all :D. I was able to adapt the tecnique to the balding style (and I think it looks smashing, myself). For those that do not want the fro style, though, I will include an option that gives a smoothed down PoP style of hair (with a slight curl). I had no idea that such a simple hairstyle would be a bone of contention (as I was delighted with it as it was). At any rate, it was just one style and I am sure that the other styles that I have fit better with a more fantastical look ;) .

These screenshots make me squeak with delight, particularly the Redguard hair! As a bearer of curly hair, I am always excited to see a different hair texture represented in a game other than straight hair, which, while lovely, is not something everyone has.

This is beautiful; is there any possibility for more curly hair styles for other races as well?

:disco:

Wow, the Redguards look great. You're really changing the face of Morrowind here.

.... yes, let's groan and move on from that pun.

Still can't wait to see the Imperials. :D
