[WIPz] Westly's Head Replacers (still working on a better ti

Post » Sun Apr 04, 2010 12:57 am

Westly, I hope you don't take my comments too seriously. They're just my personal opinion, and I'm one of those Morrowind purists whom any modder should ignore when he wants to do something creative and new. ;) I have a certain image of Redguards in my head, and afros don't fit well into that, but like I said, it's just a personal opinion, and I'll love this mod even if you don't do everything the way I imagine it. :)

What I said about improving the afro is just nitpicking, too. It is meant to be input for the case that you're thinking about reworking the haircut anyway, but it is not meant to be criticism in the way of "you should really do it this way".

(Personal opinion about the history of afros: Yes, they've been a common style for people with African origins (duh, how do you say that without sounding square), but I'd say that those were more "raw" and imperfect, while the afro you made looks like one of those really perfected afros, with a certain "attitude" behind them, like we know them since the 1960s.)

-snip- Then onward to the Dark Elves and Imperials (those should actually take less time, that is as long as I stay one a roll and do not hit another slump).

And after those, onward to the heads added by the expansions? :hubbahubba:

Also, I don't suppose you have any plans to do the beast heads, do you?

The Beast Heads could do with some love, yeah :( I think just upping the resolution of the texture's should be enough.

New Khajiit heads in Westly quality would be fantastic! :D

Also, I don't know if you're taking requests with these things, but I'd love it if one of the Imperial female hairstyles looked like http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/4742/juliacaesarisbysophielo.jpg and http://knowledgerush.com/wiki_image/8/8d/Julia.JPG from the front, and http://www.vroma.org/images/mcmanus_images/coinantonyoctavia1b.jpg on the top and sides, with a bun like http://romancoins.info/Julia9.jpg on the back.

If you can do that, you'd be my hero forever. :D

Completely random question, but I'm curious-- when you're all done with this headpack, might you consider doing a version that uses Phaedrus' billboarded http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7710

I always found that the pseudo Greek or Classical style of hairstyles fis the imperials best, most of the hairstyles (especially for women) from Faces of Vaardenfell fit them almsot perfectly

Indeed. The Roman hairstyle I've requested is known as the nodus coiffure, and was popularized during the late republic and early Augustan period by the ladies of the Imperial Family (Octavia introduced the style as a deliberate counter to the ostentatious style of Cleopatra). Through their influence, the hairstyle that was intended to show republican modesty and elegance ended up being copied by the ladies of high society, and later even commoners began to use it. Its prevalence among normal Romans even outlasted the Julio-Claudian dynasty--which is telling, considering that it was dated even before the death of Augustus.

Though the Flavian period saw more ridiculous hairstyles introduced, you can still see regular girls wearing it if you take a look at those preserved bodies from the Vesuvius eruption.

-Lady Nibenay,
I will do my best to give the Imperials some appropriately
coiffed hairstyles, but they might not come out exactly as
you have there. Mostly, I tweak what I already have ready
to use so that it best relates/resembles the original styles
(mostly). That said, I'll keep your request in mind as I am
cobbling the hairs for them :D .

-St. Juib Fairfax,
Originally I requested that Phaedrus not do my heads
with the moving eyes so that it would not add to his
workload (as he already had a tonne of heads to toil
with as it was; why add my thousand or so to it in order
to save his hands the trouble). I may still, yet, make a
mesh replacer for the heads with eyes, but I want to get
all the basics in place first before I make any more additions ;) .

Here is a "duck and run" look at one of the Male Wood Elf hairstyles
(just to keep the thread moving forward, if nothing else ;) )...

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/WAR_WE_MHAIR03x.jpg

I will most likely add earrings and plugs to the style (as
was in the original that this particular one would replace).
And even though I am moving at a snail's pace with this mod,
I say "No Worries; Its a racing snail" .... ;)

Looks beautiful! The only suggestion I have (in addition to the earrings, which you already mentioned) is that you may wish to consider adding some transparency at the hairline to make for a more seamless transition (as you did in this http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/EydisFire-Eye.jpg, for example)

Looks just like a Wood-Elves Hairstyle should :) Earrings would make a big difference, yes.

That particular hair is actually "sunk" into the head to
get that "hairline with recessed peaks" look (like in the
original styles. The actual edges of the mesh do have a
transparent quality (and I tried moving the UV around to
adjust the transparent edges to the higher peaks), but ultimately
I left it as is as it looks just fine ;) . The female version makes
use of the more rounded transparent hairline (for a fuller head of
hair), so no worries (else, fitting the particular styles to the various
heads becomes quite tedious). No worries; it's fine...it's fine...it'll
be fine...everything's fine :D .

Haha, I know you must hate my comments :P Don't worry, I'm sure one day you'll release a head that I don't have some tiny, inconsequential complaint over B)

I have a tiny suggestion for the earrings/ornaments; How about shaping them to resemble being made out of bone? Bosmer are known to wear the remains of their kin ;)

That's the best I can ask for. It'll revolutionize my playing experience if I had that hairstyle handy. I don't think anyone could get a face from the sculpture's front view alone, but the hairstyle has those other perspectives so it might work out. Let's hope. :)

Just a bit of fun for testing purposes (in anticipation of doing all the Dunmer heads for the basic replacer as well as all of the other Elf heads from my original packs); In the spirit of Phaedrus' billboard eyes I wanted to have a quick way of making detailed race specific eyes. Thus, with the addition of separate eye meshes, this is achieved (using Phaedrus' meshes as a starting point I removed the billboards and remapped the eyes so that each eye can use a specific texture or share one; this also makes mixing and matching eyes easier ;) ). I also did one on Phaedrus' billboarded meshes (rempapped UVs and what have you, but will save those for a later date). A quick look at the eyes on a male Wood Elf (since its already the mesh that I used for so many of my Dark Elf male heads anyway :D )...

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Mod%20Head%20Packs/WAR_EYETEST_01a.jpg

While it is unlikely that one would get so close to any eyes ingame to make out the details, it does make it easier to customise a character quickly (so the actual eyes that I use for the release would not be quite as detailed and large in file size; 256x256 as opposed to the 1024x1024 eye in the screen above). This also gives me a chance to use some of the eye textures that I made for Oblivion characters (as the new mapping fits them roughly enough that I am able to adapt them very quickly). I was also almost tempted to add an ENV map to the eyes to make them shiny (but that might be too rediculous for words  ).

At any rate, just a bit of fun in my pre-planning I thought I would hastily share before the next round of storms halts my modding rhythm and rhyme.

That's what I was thinking! Really nice, highly detailed texture, love it!

I really like the idea of having textures specifically for the eyes, I like customizing my characters. If I understand corectly, it will be easy to adapt other eye textures from Oblivion mods, correct? This is really cool, there are a few that I really like :)

Great idea - this should make the whole face have more natural textures - I always end up spending a lot of time aligning eyes to try and get the blinking animation to look correct as it stretches the area around the upper eyelash - this is a very good idea to get beautiful eyes which to me is what truly makes a memorable face.

If you got really carried away you could give some eyes the http://altmed.creighton.edu/Iridology/principles_of_iridology.htm which is the yellow ring some people have around their pupils appararently the thicker the ring the more stressed a person is - Fargoth would have big stress rings then :)

Is anyone else having any difficulty looking at the pics posted?

I am not able to see them for some reason (the page times out
before the pics load). This is a real bother as I wanted to upload
some more preview shots (and while I can access my PB page,
no picture will load :( ).

I hope that this is just a temporary glitch and that I am able to
use the site tomorrow (else, I will have to reupload my pics
elsewhere). It is odd, though, as I can see my Avatar just
fine (and it is hosted at my PB page, of course), so I will
remain "stumped" as to what the matter might be.

Later  ?

EDIT:Nevermind; cleared my browser files and now everything
is back to normal  .

EDIT2:Nevermind that nevermind, as PB is still borked for me;
Anyone else?

Hmm, well at least I know it is not just me now :( .
I hope that it is just a temporary glitch with PB and
that its resolved soon.

At any rate, this thread has come to its end, so I
best be sure to grap all the info that I have posted in
in the first post and make a new thread (such
is the life of a mod that never ends, I suppose :D )
