Wha't my Rad level?

Post » Sat Dec 12, 2015 12:45 am

The only places I've been able to see my Rad level is the little meter on the side of the Pip-Boy, and I'm not sure it's reliable at all, and the part of my health bar that's red. Surely somewhere under Stats there should be an actual number, just like HP and everything else Stat related?

And sorry for the topic typo =/

It should be in the same area where it shows your broken limbs. I believe under Status

I've wondered that too...since radaway I believe rids 300 rads, how am I supposed to know how many I actually have...I do notice that when my health is around 25% red, radaway clears it up...so maybe 1000 or so rads=death? IDK...but yea an actual # would be nice..

OMG...I just figured it out...your rad count (if you have rads) is the difference between your max HP minus your current full HP up to where it meets the red...so in my case right now I have max HP at 262 minus fully rested HP of 237 equals 25 rads...wow ignore my previous post..I've been sorta wasting radaway this whole time..

Yes, but what if you're not at full HP, which I rarely am when roving around (cause there's a gunfight every 2.3 minutes)? And that doesn't let you see the threshold of Rad poisoning either.

The red in your health bar shows your rads. That red will not change with your health. The more rads you get the less HP you will have. So if you have 75% rads your max hp will only be 25%. I'm not sure if there is a lethal amount of rads but I doubt it. I know I got to a point where I must have had 95% rads as my max health was very low. I got killed in 1 hit by a creature. So it's likely that the low max HP will kill you before the rads. I generally use my radaway when the red is 1/4 of the health.

Why would there be thresholds to keep track of when (as far as I know) rad poisoning is not a thing in this game?

Whenever you become uncomfortable with your max HP. Depends on your level. Some people could be fine with 50% rads and 50% max HP of they are a high level and have good armor.

For me I try to estimate where I will cure it but not waste medicine. Usually when my rads are 25% of my health.

Yea I don't know...I just tested that formula...got about 30 rads(at least I think) ate a mutant chop which says removes 50 rads..and it only removed like 20..so I have no idea how the whole rad thing works...an actual number should be put in in the status menu..guess I'll just be munchin on radaway all day..

It's very simple. Max hp = max hp - rads. The red bar in your health indicates rads, the green is health. So if your max health is 100 and you get 10 rads your new health will be 90 Or something song those lines. I suggest using rad medicine when the red is about 1/4 to 1/6 of your health.

I miss the accurate number readouts of the previous Fallout radiation meters, but I've gotten used to just eyeballing my health meter and the pipboy's radiometer needle to keep track of it. The meter needle is pretty accurate, and once I found a doctor, I just pay him a few caps to wipe my blood whenever I zone back to town, usually. Also, any time I have to enter a highly radiated area, I either put on my environment suit or go get a power armor suit to clank around in. Rad-X just doesn't cut it much.

Yeah, there are no 'side effect' symptoms from too much radiation, no weaknesses or stat-lowering (that I know of, anyway). It just keeps reducing your available healthpoint pool until you're always walking around on a banana peel when you get into a fight.

Sounds like weakness and stat-lowering to me?

Of a more basic kind, yeah. In the previous games, you got varying levels of stat decreases to other SPECIALS and abilities, until you hit 1000 rads and died. It was serious enough that you didn't want to run around with radiation sickness all the time, but not nearly as annoying as the direct health decrease you get in this game. IMHO.

Except you can die from rads alone...it don't stop at 1 HP, and wait for an enemy to kill you...you will die if you stay in radiation too long.
