Whale-Bone Bridge

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 2:09 am

What exactly is it? It's from some sort of giant whale but why is it in sovengarde? From what we can see there aren't any bodies of water in sovengarde large enough to contain a whale. Unless maybe it's some sort of sky whale.

I think it's a Sky Whale, which I understand to be what Dragons used to be before they were made into actual Dragons by Akaviri belief-forces.

The Nord gods are related to animal totems, and Tsun died defending Shor so his spirit defends Sovngarde. Thus people theorized that the Whale is Tsun's totem animal, and the bridge is the remnants of Tsun.

The Nordic pantheon, the one Tsun is found in, has the Eight Divines + Shor as animals. Tsun is most likely the whale, considering the bridge.

Edit: SithisLorkhan said it better.

All gods were whales at one time. Most still are.

Not true, each god takes a different form as their Animal totem.

OP, I don't think we actually know for sure why the whalebone bridge is there, aside from it being astounding imagery. There are indeed sky whales - or rather Snow Whales - in TES; you can read more in the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/fight-three-snow-whale-and-dirtbird.

You gotta stop taking that sleeping tree sap, the thoghatt warriors showed that stuff don't do no good.

For clarity's sake, I believe Haute is making a connection to Bifrost, the rainbow bridge to Valhalla. Or linking Tsun to the Village People. I'm kind of hoping for the latter, actually.

No, but seriously, Whalebone is a pseudo-crypto-homophone of Rainbow, a great bridge of which features in Norse Myth.

And I'm not the first person to point this out.

Shades is right. They're all dragons, too. And men.
