Are you refering the UFO in FO3? That's the only one I'm aware that has any bearing and consistency within the series so far, the crash sites in previous games were just special encounters, and had no official backstory as I understand it (not sure if this was the case for Van Buren)

If the UFO crashed in 2065, then it would only be 212 years later as FO3 takes place in 2277. I'm guessing they consider Earth a point of interest 2 centuries later.

There's no information in the series that points toward the prominence and/or abundance of otherwordly beings. Maybe Bethesda have something planned for the future, maybe they just want to convey that "we're not alone" and leave it at that, It's anyone's guess but theirs.

There was a random encounter in Fallout2, where you would find a crashed alien spacecraft.

I belive that was a joke, as is this alien, hinting at fallout 2's joke.

There is information in FO3 though, that gives that particular craft a backstory, which is why I hold it possibly to be something more. It's also not a special encounter, it has its own permanent location. I don't think it's going to become anything prominent, but it makes you wonder why Bethesda would give it so much flavour if it's nothing more than a nod to similar special encounters in the originals.

Yeah. I was thinking of the Federation shuttle. Silly me.

But yeah, there's a random encounter in fallout 1 with a crashed alien ship, which is 'property of area 51'.

The Pentagon file is just a hint at the ship's location, and the ship is there as a way of giving you a lore-friendly method of getting an Alien Blaster. I doubt Bethesda has anything special planned for aliens.

My guess is that the aliens find Earth interesting. I mean, the whole planet was destroyed in a nuclear war, but life continues on. I'd want to study it too.

Too bad they're such crappy pilots.

Probably not considering that Fawkes was in a cell in Vault 87.

It cannot be an encounter since as a few second flash like Firelance event it would have no easter-egg value, and FO3's gameplay system doesn't allow static items to exist only a temporary time and "crashed alien" would be game-technically insane if you first saw it near Rivet City then a day later it had disappeared. In FO1 there wasn't this problem, since all encounters are temporary and encountered while travelling in world map.

Yes there is, in FO2 there are a number of random encounters with mobs called "aliens," and they have infested the lower decks of the tanker in SF. So we know there are a lot of them, and they can get here, but what they're doing here...who knows.

The Wanamingo's are pre-war experiments. They were dieing out during the events of FO2, they had a biological kill-switch, and were forced to perish after a few generations. They are not from another world.

^This, the fallout Bible tells you why they are referred to as 'Aliens' in the kill counter.
