What about the interior? Is it still "an own world"?

Post » Fri Sep 30, 2011 1:11 pm

Hi
Just coming from the rain-discussion I remembered another annoying thing from Oblivion:

If you are going inside a building, you seem to be in another world suddenly. No matter if it's day or night, the windows are lightend, as if it would be very bright outside (and of course from outside you never saw any lighted windows, if you didn't use a mod).

This was a very atmophere-killing thing. The other thing was, that no matter how hard of a storm was outside, in the house you heard nothing of it. Not even raindrops on the roof or stuff like that.

Now I'm asking myself, if it will be the same for Skyrim (hopefully not). What do you think?
Is there any hands-on about those issues? Or any word from Bethesda about it?

That's something that you can wish for, but will most likely not be part of Skyrim.

So? There were mods that managed to add this feature that didn't seem to affect performance.

The title answers your question, the interior shall be 'in a world of its own'.

There was a mod for Oblivion that adjusted interior window illumination for time of day - hopefully we'll get another for Skyrim.

Remember when, in the demo, he went into the dungeon? You could still hear the dragon.

The cell can still be "in a world of it's own" whilst still being affected by day/night shifts can it not? Even if it's not a subtle as in the outdoors, it could still be possible.

Light was already different in Fallout, and you can hear the dragon outside of the cave in the demo

Truth at it's finest.

In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, the interior light is adjusted, and in certain parts such as where light bleeds in through the windows or ceiling, it is appropriate for the outside lightning conditions outside rare anomalies. (Bugs)

You know you have a really bad habit of posting before reading. You should work on that.

This was a common complaint in both MW and OB. It's such a (seemingly) small change that I can't believe they haven't addressed it in Skyrim.

Its not like having interior cells affected by exterior ones is impossible to program. Whatever event causes a transition between exterior to interior passes parameters to the interior cell on what light to simulate and what ambient noises may be outside at the time.

So are interiors separate cells? Yes.
Are interior cells void of external influence? We don't know yet (but its looking good!)

Seriously, did anyone read the OP? He's talking about weather and lighting effects matching the outside world. This was done in Fallout 3 so I don't see why they wouldn't include it in Skyrim.

if you watch the quakecon footage again youll see that when he went in the cave you could actually see outside through holes in the cave so im almost positive this has been improved.

I strongly suspect interior cells are affected by exterior cells to an extent we haven't seen before. Many of the reviews talk about "doorless" transitions to certain caves and dungeons. Imagine walking into a doorless cave in the middle of the night, finish the loading screen, turn around, and its broad daylight.

Since the lighting was done correctly for both FO3 and NV, I'm guessing...

yes.

Lemunde said it as well :)

Really? I wonder if this is truly possible. Oblivion mods faked it by copying a piece of the exterior and pasting it outside the window. Given what people said about doors not opening when npcs enter though I doubt it, otherwise why wouldn't they?
