What additional race WOULD you be most excited to see?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:08 pm

Although I am happy with 10 races, we all know that there are new races added to each numbered entry to the series. An example is the introduction of the Imperial in Morrowind. Many players are asking for new races, and if you HAD to choose out of the answers above what would the most popular be?

Personally, I am interested in all of them, but since I have to choose I will call it a tie between the Sload and Tsaesci. They are so vastly different from all of the other races. The Sload hail from Thas and haven't been seen for over 30 yesars from their enemies in Summerset, and the Tsaesci seem like a logical choice since they once presided over the empire as the Potentates.

**Those that dont want other races placed into the game, I understand that you're happy the way it is. But please dont bash over the people that do. Also remember that the Kothringi are SUPPOSEDLY extinct. There is no evidence that there are not at least small tribes of them**

The only game that added new playable races to series out of the first game's three successors was Morrowind. New playable races aren't really anything to expect from TES V. I think 10 are plenty.

I chose Sload, but not as a playable race. Pretty much any of these being playable wouldn't make much sense.

Exactly. In addition to Sloads, I chose Tsaesci. Also, I think that the two are most likely to appear, since both could be used in the main storyline in future TES games. Sloads always have potential for appearance in some great quests related to necromancy, too. And it's high time for another Akaviri invasion.

The akavirian tiger men. Or just more khajiit subspecies.

Meh, I'd rather they make the existing races more distinct, both visually, story-wise and in terms of gameplay, before they go on and add more. Although seeing them as non-playable races in particular quests might be fun.

We've got plenty of races as it is, and plenty of culture among them to be explored. The Sload are the only ones I think would actually look unique in a TES game (they've been done before in Redguard anyway), and not like some boring beast race rehash. As it stands I don't think new playable races are necessary in the least, and I don't want to see MK move mountains to come up with an excuse for Akaviri peoples appearing in Tamriel at high frequency. Perhaps an NPC or two would be interesting, akin to Yagrum Bagarn, but I'd rather most of these creatures remain just that - creatures, or otherwise a mystery.

About the prospects of Akaviri invasion:
First," Tosh Raka says, "is that we kill all the vampire snakes." Then the Tiger-Dragon Emperor wants to invade Tamriel.

so encountering Ka Po' Tun wouldn't be so strange. Same about Tsaesci - it will be hard to "kill them all", so some survivors would flee to Tamriel.

It's all a question whether Bethesda will want to pursue the issue. I agree that we shouldn't encounter many Akaviri if there is no invasion taking place, though...

It should be noted that MK himself wrote about Akavir before MW release.

I voted for the Sload. A slug race would add somthing new and great to the elder scrolls if they have no legs.

I chose them all, including "NO NEW RACES".

Wouldn't it be awsome to be a Sload. You could kill people by walking on them.

I think 10 races are plenty, although if an additional race were important to the story being told, I'd like the option of playing it. Mostly, I'd like the experience of playing different races to be more distinct.

I would personally like to see no new races is TES games. It would be fine if we saw some Sload or Akaviri natives but just not as PCs.

No Akaviri races, that would not make any sense if the main story of the game was somehow based on you being differnt from the rest of the Tamriel population.

Sloads are too strange looking, and won't function as anything else than mages (with teleportation magic) because they are so fat to move properly. Sload NPCs or creatures might be cool though.

I'd like to see Maormer. Maormer in Tamriel seems plausible, and they look quite similar to the men/mer races.

I would also like to see the Ohmes-raht, a more human-like version of the khajiit. (not included in poll)

They do have legs. http://www.uesp.net/morrow/preview/sload.jpg, and this is http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/tsorg_part05image14.jpg, http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/tsorg_part10image08.jpg, http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/tsorg_part10image07.jpg

Off hand I'm not interested in seeing any new races. In most cases it would be difficult to explain why this race was being treated the same as the other main races of the Empire - a Kothringi showing up in town presumably wouldn't be treated the same way as your average Imperial.

There are situations where this could work. As much as I hate monkey-people and the like if the game was set in Valenwood it would be reasonable to allow Imga player characters. A game set in Akavir (perhaps involving some sort of Tamrielic invasion/colonization) could probably allow Tang Mo characters quite easily, although I'm doubtful of the rest. Maormer or Globlics might work for a game set on Sumerset Isle although I'd prefer to see them as NPCs.

Of course given a sufficient period of time between TES IV and TES V it would be relatively easy to introduce a new race to the lore and then integrate it in to the setting. There are rumors than the next TES V will be quite a ways in to the future and in that case it would be easy to introduce anyone in to the mix. In this case I like the Maomer the most and I could probably be swayed to support the Kothringi.

I don't think that any of those additional races should be playable. They should be NPCs or enemies, but not PCs. Too much implausibility might arise with Sload heroes completing the MQ...

Sorry to everyone for miswriting that each Elder Scrolls game introduced new races. I meant to write that each new game at least introduced new races as NPC's. Those who would want them as PC's simply want them for diversity, as it is plausible that TESV could integrate any race for any reason as it is supposedly set 200 years after TOC..

Regardless, it is very interesting to see the difference of votes from these forums, compared to other ES fan forums and discussion boards. I find it strange that so many players want diversity in the game, with more choice and depth, but find it hard to believe that new races would be treated the same. They may not be treated the same by the denizens of Tamriel, but thats part of the inevitable depth many players want. Similar to Dragon Age's Origin stories (although I hated the gameplay), would be how your PC would be treated in the world. With Obsidian adding "Traits" back into Fallout New Vegas, Bethesda may follow suit and add something similar story wise for each race as the Empire has fallen apart with most provinces succedding from the Empire.

After all, not all races are treated the same in all provinces anyways, so saying that a Sload (for ex:) would not be treated well in X Province would be both correct and incorrect. Its kinda like Schrodingers cat, lol.
