What all do you think Skyrim will encompass?

Post » Tue Apr 27, 2010 8:27 pm

Not gonna put a poll in because they're overrated, but anyway..

You know how at the edges of Cyrodiil in Oblivion, the area was tailored to the next region over? Like snowy up north by Skyrim, kinda jungley near Black Marsh, etc?

Well, what if they took that a little farther in Skyrim?

Would it not be awesome to have a town or two in Mainland Morrowind, maybe be able to go down as far as Bruma and Cloud Ruler into Cyrodiil (and see the Great Gate ruins even?), and slip a town or two into Hammerfell? I dunno about you guys, but 3-6 extra spots, even for flavor, would be awesome. And Morrowind and Cyrodiil would serve well to stroke our nostalgia, even if what we'd see of Morrowind wouldn't have been in ES3.

Anyone feel/hope the same? Think they might do it?

EDIT: To provoke a little more thought, where'd you all like to see a Shivering Isles/Bloodmoon/Tribunal-sized expansion take place for it?

I wouldn't mind in the slightest. It wouldn't be the first time an ES game took place in more than one province. I'm not getting my hopes up though, and I fully expect the borders to be drawn firmly at Skyrim.

I don't know about crossing borders...

but it would be really nice to be able to visit towns near the borders and hear rumors about what's going on in those areas near that border.

Seeing more Argonians near the border of Morrowind for that matter, depending on when it's set and more Imperials near the Cyrodil border would be sweet. More Reguards near the Hammerfell border (and less Argonians and Dunmer) and more Bretons near High Rock.

That would be pretty clever me thinks.

Edit: Took out part about Black Marsh, it's on the other side of Morrowind

Morrowind was conquered by the Argonians but I doubt they could have secured the borders up to Skyrim without Skyrim gaining territory so we might see a bit of Morrowind.

Also if the game takes place after the Empire has collapsed then we're due for a new map of Tamriel.

From what I've read, Skyrim could have expanded west since the time of Oblivion. Maybe by the time of the game they could of took advantage of a weakened Empire and brought Bruma into the fold... it is a heavily Nord city anyway, so the 5th column was in place.

I just now realized I really love this fictional universe.

I was thinking, in response to that last post, Noooooo. I don't want to see the Legion losing land to the Nords because I like them as they are. Then I started thinking, hell, change is good.

I think I may have a problem. I'm powerless to fix it. I need to submit to a higher power. Someone tell me what the other three steps are.

I don't think we'll see Bruma again, but maybe the small western part of the Morrowind mainland, since Morrowind basically collapsed it would have been easy for Skyrim to take over that relatively small strip of land. Blacklight!!!

Next steps are:
1. Enter Sneak Mode.
2. Attempt to head towards Bruma
3. Slip in through the--

"STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!"

Oh ****.

Nords have always had an eye on Morrowind, it be odd if they haven't taking a chunk of it.
It all depends on how long after OB this game will take place. 50 years some change. 200 years like some are suggesting... well governments come and go in that time frame

Good point, they're already in the Velothi mountains bordering on Morrowind mainland.

No I don't want that... because then it would most likely end up in an instant, sudden, magical border :(
I say keep Skyrim within Skyrim so we can have natural borders :D

But I do hope some big expansions come to let us go someplace else.

It still exists. Vvardenfell is evidently thoroughly jacked up though. Ministry of Truth fell on it, Red Mountain erupted, it's pretty well screwed.

The mainland is fine though, although Argonians are beginning to take control, taking over from their slave overlords

I think thery're more likelly to introduce variety by having border towns influenced by the adjacent region (ie. like Bruma being Nord) rather than actually going into the region.

There are hints of an old road, ruined by a stone fall (?) going north in the vicinity of Serpents Tail in the Jeryll Mountains. So I wouldn't mind looking down the other way and seeing Bruma and possibly the Imperial City in the far distance, with the message "You cannot go that way, buy Oblivion" :P

As much as I would like to see parts of Hammerfell, Highrock and Morrowind, Skyrim has too many obvious natural borders for this to be likely. They might find a way to make it work but I only expect to see the Skyrim region in...Skyrim.

I've got an idea for the Legion after the crisis if the empire is collapsing. The legion has never been strong enough to contain a province, so I've always assumed they've done it through diplomacy and having the legion throw its support to the strongest military leader. After the crisis, they are alone instead of asserting power over someone. They already have towns of legion soldiers covering certain areas, so I'd think they could establish their legion commander as king of their territory within every country. He would essentially have the power of all the other kings, and just a strong a claim to a throne as they would. That would be awesome.

I hadn't even considered changes in provinces.
Thanks guys, now you've got my hopes up that we'll have more Skyrim to play with.
As awesome an idea that is, don't know how likely it is...

On topic, if we're fantasising here, then sure, I'd love to see the game encapsulate more than one province, just as long as it's bigger than Cyrodiil.
You know what they say... Bigger is better

*sigh* I'm ashamed of myself...

I won't be buying Skyrim if they include an Argonian-run Morrowind, simple as that.

It would make more sense for the game borders to be the real borders of Skyrim, otherwise the game map would end at random places. However, it would be nice if there was somewhere you could go that wasn't snowy, I can imagine snow is gonna get real boring after a while.

Skyrim and Skyrim only. Morrowind again wouldn't be cool, Cyrodill again would annoy a lot of folks, High Rock was already in Daggerfall. That leaves no other place to encompass.

However, with all the political problems going on lately and stuff, it might be possible that Skyrim might have it's territory expanded with parts of Morrowind's mainland or High Rock's.

border towns sounds really interesting, but I wouldn't wanna pass the borders, I like the idea of keeping the game to the name.. sorta thing ^^. For an expansion I'd like to visit some place we haven't gone before, I really enjoyed bloodmoon and tribunal.. SI not so much, but that may simply because it was for Oblivion.

I don't think there would be a need if they made Skyrim big enough. It might just be me, but Cyrodiil felt reeaally small, I could walk between towns in minutes.
