What Are U Going To Dual-Wield?

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 12:11 pm

Oh wow. Just read the combat section and I am a little worried now. Dual wielding and improved combat is great and was something we've been modding for a long time. The part that worries me though is the part about these finishing moves:An animation every once in awhile is okay and kind of cool after a hard battle or when you just utterly waste and enemy, but, they shouldn't happen that often otherwise you risk detracting from gameplay and immersion. Think cut scene after every other fight. It gets old real quick. :banghead: The other potential problem is this, combat is improved but in order to end a challenging fight you have to preform a combo. Something that is a pain in the nwah with keyboard and mouse and belongs on console only releases IMHO. This was a big problem with The Force Unleased, and aside from restrictive level design the reason I never played past the 2nd board out of disgust. Let me add I wasn't looking forward to that game as much as a TES release, but I was excited enough to preorder the PC version.

I hope they use a system like Dark Messiah: Might and Magic used. You gain adrenaline through dealing damage, once you have enough adrenaline, your next attack is an instant kill with a pretty sweet animation. There were at least 5 different animations per weapon type, depending on what direction attack you were using.

This was rare enough to make it satisfying each time one occurred. Only after a couple of minutes of particularly intense fighting did you have the ability to instantly execute anyone who was in the way of your sword.

I think the sword, mace combo is the least popular.

Sword, mace is particularly my favorite.... SLICE, KLONK

Two American flags. Are *you* a bad enough dude to rescue the president?!

....in all seriousness, two swords. Probably a short and long sword. Or two long swords. I dunno. But i'll be a swingin' two swords regardless.

With a little side bow action.

Ive always liked to play as the warrior-type character so im gonna go with the longsword and dagger like in the wallpaper image. I might possibly trade the dagger for a one-handed axe. What are u guys gonna dual-wield, or are you gonna go with a two-handed weapon?

Longsword and axe is pretty bad ass indeed. I might just go for that :D

Think I'll go for two Axes or two Maces, or maybe an Axe plus Mace combo.

D&D or Warhammer? Personally prefered Warhammer (Wood elves were more capricious and feral).

D&D, I used to help friends paint figures, but, never played Warhammer.

Agreed. If finishing moves become too common place they lose their impact and significance, but I doubt it would detract much, as essentially it is just another attack to kill your opponent. It does sound like their occurrence is extremely conditional (enemy's health, timed attack, etc), so hopefully this won't be a spammed event..
As to these animations/finishing moves/cut scenes/whatever they're called I found them way to frequent in FO3. In shooters I tend more toward the sniper type char's and it seemed like every other kill I was getting an anim for my mighty kill. :cryvaultboy:

And yeah, while I think mouse/keyboard is superior for precision, the controller is excellent for movement with the d-pad and combos... Question is how to get this for PC..
I beg to differ. WASD and mouse for movement plus having programmable macro buttons on a decent gaming mouse and keyboard set, makes the slight advantage in comfort (the only one I can see on a gamepad) redundant.

Hurrah. Good times.

I'd have to agree with you here, I've been in the same situation (and favour sniping too). Every scope ended being an animation, however, if they are done well in Skyrim, say after a particularly tough fight, that would be a very rewarding finish.

I beg to differ. WASD and mouse for movement plus having programmable macro buttons on a decent gaming mouse and keyboard set, makes the slight advantage in comfort (the only one I can see on a gamepad) redundant.

Ah, stupid of me not to realise this. Agreed.

I usually make a nearly pure mage in RPGs so probably spells with some skill in one hand blade as backup.

For my warrior I usually go two hander, but if shields work cool I may do that. Rouge will be bow/two daggers.

It's "nunchucks" or "nunchaku". "Numchucks" is what Napoleon Dynamite says!
