What are some old hobbies you wish you could do again?

Post » Fri Apr 25, 2014 9:48 pm

I have a ton, but I really just don't have the time to do them anymore. Or I just can't find the motivation to get into 'it' again. Usually because that takes time+friends and we are all strapped for time nowadays.

Mine are Surfing, Diving, Ju-Jitsu, jerking it* Hiking, gloving, making music, drawing, reading for pleasure, etc etc...

What are yours? Why don't/can't you do them anymore?

*someone was going to make the joke. <_<

I'm capable of balancing work and free time so that's never been an issue for me. I'd like to get back into football (soccer), but because my knees are fragile things and prone to injury it has become difficult to enjoy. I'm too lazy for that [censored] anyway nowadays, but I'd like to get back into jogging. Physical activity and exercise is fun, but sometimes it's difficult to find the motivation.

Sketching. I was quite good at it, but I can never motivate myself to start doing it again. That, and I've lost the materials to do it over the years.

I was decent at drawing in my teens and when I started partying I stopped. Even years after my partying days I never picked it back up. I guess to friends and family it was sader to them I didnt stick with it. To be honest back then it was an escape but I have found others since then. Maybe some day when the kids are gone and I'm burned out on video games I'll get back to it.

The hell is "gloving"?

As for me, mountain biking, slot cars are the two that is really like to get back into. Mountain biking is just too expensive to do seriously. And I just don't have the space to set up my 4 lane slot car tub even though it's about the size of a door.

I still do most of the hobbies that I've had over my life.

One that's been on the outs the last few years is painting gaming miniatures (you know, for games like Warhammer 40k or Malifaux).... it's a hobby that has always varied in how motivated I am year-to-year. But I think I also need new glasses - haven't gotten a new prescription in years & years, and I'm starting to suspect that I need to move up to bifocals  - my close-in vision is getting crappy.

....I actually hadn't done any RC car stuff in decades, but a guy I play tabletop games with got back into it last year and dragged me along with him.

I'm still in the phase of being able to do every hobby that I used to.

However I wish I had more time to do them. :P
