What are the best quests outside of the main story?

Post » Sat Jun 19, 2010 3:57 am

And in every thread, someone talks about how much better FO3 is. Why don't you make a response like you just made to those people?

It's quite obvious and really disheartening. It's because you ARE one of those people.

Good day.

First off, he at least stated which quests he liked as the thread suggests. He then said that he got more hours of fun out of FO3. Your reply was simply to tell him how much better FONV was. Something you should have done was list the quests you like/liked and then tell him "stop bringing up FO3 in every dang thread!!!!", not tell him how much superior FONV is.

Quest I just remembered: The one you get in Novac where you have to go investigate the old rocket factory (the ghouls). Can't remember the name, but I liked the ending and fighting the Nightkin for the first time.

Except most of the ranger camps in Return to Sender were incredibly boring. There would be two people you can interact with one to do the quest and another to tell you what the Rangers stationed there are doing. Not really exciting.

Don't get me wrong Return to Sender had a great conclusion but the actual quest was pretty dull. I get the purpose of sending you to all the Ranger stations the first time was just to encourage you to explore the map but sending you to some camps a second time was just tedious and pointless. The entire thing should've been rewritten so that investigating the strange reports was the first thing you were asked to do and you could only get it if you had a good working relationship with the NCR.

Best quest in the game would be Vault 11 if that counts as a quest. Otherwise both I Put a Spell on You and Beyond the Beef were excellent.

How is a quest that has you travel the world and find out a ton about the setting a tedious quest? Going to each camp was a new adventure. That quest took me several hours and I loved every minute of it.

What adventure? Travel to this PITA back-of-beyond location. Listen to line of dialogue. Leave. Rinse and repeat. There was nothing fun about it whatosever. Oooh, you might have to fight a couple of giant mantises or fire geckos en route, such excitment!

The demoument with Hanlon's quite good, but doesn't make up for the sheer tedium of the rest of it. If it's not already apparent, I hate that quest with a passion, in fact in many ways it represents all the things I don't like about quest design in NV.

And it represents everything that makes me think NV is so vastly superior to FO3. It brings you down into this world and makes it believable. You investigate these camps, find out about the surrounding areas, and eventually wind up dealing with a fantastic NPC character, a small throw-away character that I still found to be more memorable and interesting than most characters in the game.

Due to fast travelling, tedium doesn't even come into it. Hearing about Camp Guardian and going to investigate was amazing. Hearling about Cottonwood Cove and going to investigate was even more amazing.

PITA... with fast travelling... does not compute.

"but sending you to some camps a second time was just tedious and pointless."

You do know how to fast travel, right?

I already had talked about a quest I liked. That was not my first post in this thread. You should've made your initial response to that guy, not to me. You're acting quite hypocritical, dude.

Thanks for reminding us you like NV better than Fo3, guy! We were in danger of forgetting already!

(You'll note I made no mention of 3 in any of my posts.)

You need to have visited a location to be able to fast-travel there. So it's only good for the second round-trip. And tbh, any quest that all-but-relies on fast-travel to make it bearable has failed pretty badly in my book.

Yes. I also know having to fast travel to multiple locations I've already visited and that contain nothing of interest is still tedious and pointless regardless of the amount of time involved in reaching them. Clicking on icons and reading a short dialogue about how the report is full of [censored] is not interesting.

I wasn't reminding anyone of anything. I was making a comment to describe what I enjoyed about this quest. Very difficult for you to understand, I suppose. That's not a positive trait.

As for your second comment... duh? I was talking about the return trip specifically. So why would you mention something as obvious as needing to have been to the location to fast travel to it? That embarassed me to read it and you were the one that posted it! Wow. Absurd.

And your comment about a reliance on fast travel making a quest a failure is completely arbitrary and has no basis in anything whatsoever. It's another absurd comment. There is absolutely nothing wrong about a quest being made more tolerable by fast tracking. That's fine. Your value judgements make absolutely no sense in any way.

Good day.

Whoops didn't see your first post, my bad.

Hypocritical? Personal insults? I'm not saying whether which one is better I'm saying you don't need to reply to everyone when they say FO3 is better. Being hypocritical would imply I'm contradicting myself, but I am not. Should he have brought that up? No, but you just got svcked right in and had to inform him FONV is better. Then like the other guy said, you brought it up again in another reply.

This argument is pointless though. I know how you reason and I know this will go nowhere.

Come Fly With me was the quest name. Quite honostly, I enjoyed that, expecially the Flight of The Valkyries that played at the end.

Yeah that was great. Is it wrong that I sabotaged it and thought it was hilarious when the rockets crashed with the song playing in the background?
