What are the consequences of big save game files?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:31 pm

Ok, I looked at how big my game save folder was. It's 40mb. Is this bad? good? Average?

I read on another thread about game save sizes but I feel I need to make this thread to get exact answers. Plus, what are your game save sizes and whats the ideal size?

The save game folder size doesn't matter (although the list of save games might take longer to load if you have hundreds of save games in the folder). The size of a single save game is what matters. I think at ~10mb size (per single save game) the save game can become corrupt and unusable. That happens mainly due to bugs in scripts added by mods (although the causes for save game bloating are well known so you will have trouble finding mods that cause save game bloating nowadays).

My save game folder is 439mb large and the average save game size for my level 25 character is 4mb.

Wow thanks again Phitt good advice :P

Ok, well yeah I run a few mods (about 30) and have quite a few game saves (about 10 or more I think). I just checked my most recent save and it was 4.5 mbs, so that's good right?

I use game booster to help with my game and big save files since i use streamline 3.1 and it saves my game every time. Itll help with a lot of saves and the game itself. I run it myself its free and not spyware or anything.

I'm also using Game Booster to shut down unnecessary background processes, but in what way does it help with big save files?

Is there a way to reduce the size of a save? My save is currently 12mb.

What i do is delete the savegames from my documents folder but before i do that i make a new save amber.ess then delete the old saves in the folder. I assumed game booster can defrag the files in my documents folder. Not sure how it helps with that amount of saves. I delete old saves that way it wont get too bunched up and slow my game down since i dont have a monster computer to run the game. Btw my video card is 5 years old and still going strong. Ati X1600 pro.
