What are the interbreeding rules in skyrim?

Post » Sun Feb 16, 2014 4:39 pm

I know alot of races are unique, but are there specific rules?Like would a high elf and a orc be compatible?Or a khajiit and a human?I know many races have "complex" breeding, especially the khajiit (http://www.shoddycast.com/2013/09/28/elder-scrolls-lore-ch-16-khajiit-of-elsweyr/ and go to types of khajiit for more information)

Is interracial breeding possible,or only one race,or only mer+mer or human+human?

I believe man races can mix but the children take after the race of the mother. beast races can/do have intercourse with man races but there is no offspring from say a khajiit sleeping with a nord.

if i recall correctly, when two separate races have a child, the child will always be the same race as the mother

As far as human and elves go, it's Pokemon rules.

Baby takes the form of the mom with some traits of the dad. Orc Mom+High Elf dad=Orc baby, maybe slightly taller than most orcs.

It's a little trickier with beast races, but there's a chance that Khajiit might be compatible, given they're kind-of elf-like and might be descended from elves. (Speculation of, course)

I think this is where most of the information comes from, but there are other sources: http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Notes_on_Racial_Phylogeny

There's an http://uesp.net/wiki/Shivering:Fall_of_Vitharn that describes the union between an Argonian woman and a Bosmer(?) that had kids, but the source is pretty unreliable (it's from the Shivering Isles)

Khajiit are not descended from elves, they are one of the original tamriel races.Either from before or the same time as high elves (and possibly snow elves)

maybe there is hope yet my little altmer thief and her khajiit husband can have kittens after all :P

In the case of mer+elf would they be hairy high elves? or yellow khajiits? if the traits take after the mother... is that only true for the man races? or would they take after the traits of the mother if the father was a beast?

That depends on which account you believe. It's been a while since I read the Words of Clan Mother Ahnissi, but the Khajiit seem to believe they came from Bosmer, or possibly the group of Ehlnofey that eventually became Bosmer.

The thing with khajiit is there physoiolgy is almost based entirely on the moon. You have normal khajiit,jaguar-esqe khajiit, khajiit that look like giant saber tooth tigers (http://i.imgur.com/RvtOynF.png) and khajiit that look like normal house-cats,and they all have the intelligence of khajiit. Sooo,I have no idea how that would translate into a human genome.Maybe just a cat-like person? http://i.imgur.com/qB89Kf6.jpg

Probably higher chance than if she had been human, at least. :)

Let's not state things as black & white facts. Yes, the off-spring gets the race of the mother 85% of the time. But latent gene build-up can have an effect. Two Bosmers[Haymon Camoran and his Bosmeri mistress] gave birth to an Ayleid.[Mankar Camoran] Which is not surprising, seeing as how a lot of Ayleids retreated into Valenwood and inter-mingled with the Bosmer.

Then there's the whole Breton race...

Yep, I'm calling it here. We will start seeing some tall Bosmers in the future thanks to Ayleid genes running rampant now.

Book says it's true for all compatible (i.e. Momma's traits are dominant). The mind boggles at the possibilities, though, given how diverse Khajiit are.

Beth skirted that one by offering orphans to adopt as opposed to notions of cross-species (cough) entanglements, gestation and birth.

Not, perhaps, on the same scale as Tim Burton when he butchered Planet of the Apes in 2001 Sir.

Who bought that platonic relationship between Marky-mark and Zira?

I blinking didn't.

Now I wasn't expecting hot on-screen monkey-love.

But I did expect artistic integrity, some [censored] [censored]s ,congruent storytelling and less blinking scenery-chewing.

And most of all. My blinking money back Sir.

Yep. Look at him. Dark skin, dark hair. Bosmeri parents. That is a 90% pure Ayleid right there! Look at the image of his paradise. Look at what he is doing to the Septim Empire.

holy! your right!

wow, Mankar becomes more interesting the more I read into him.. Dragonborn, was able to create his own miniature plain of Oblivion, and hes Ayleid..
you'd think he would have been harder to fight..

I...no. At this point it's kind of a cheap shot.

[censored] it, you can say that of pretty much any Bethesda antagonist.

Khajiit can hook up with humans but not make them pregnant...they only can poke them with their prickly parts :P

(read the unedited Barenziah story)

heh... that's my thief's favorite collection of books right there and she knows from experience how true those parts are.

But I still wonder at the possibility. Its been stated there are stories of births but no proof. Maybe in the case of man and mer, the child takes after the physical appearance also and that's the reason there is no proof. Say the father is a khajiit, then the child would be man. or if the mother was khajiit, the child/cub would be khajiit.

No manimals running around you know...

Hate to be a party pooper, but the developer who wrote that said that thorny Khajiit "parts" aren't actually a thing. Apparently the in-game author knows nothing about Khajiit anatomy.

Now, if only I could actually find the quote where she stated that.

and the whole "Always takes the mothers race, but perhaps with a few of the fathers traits" was shown in Oblivion as well:

Agronak gro-Malog, aka "Gray Prince", aka "The Grand Champion" was born an Orc like his mother, but with much Paler skin (as his Father was an Imperial Vampire)

I imagine that the reason that you don't see anything like proto-Bretons running around anymore is because you'd have to consistently mix races over several generations like it was done in High Rock. It's also compounded by the fact that unions between humans/elves and the beast races are supposedly rare.

And then you have that thing with Mankar Camoran...

And whom did the book's author hear the whole story from? If it comes to the point where said person starts adding and making things up, the only conclusion is that s/he wasn't even there. Just got the data from someone that talked to someone that talked to someone.

Funnily enough, the book is called "The real Barenziah", implying that it's closer to the truth than the regular "Biography of Barenziah" books.

It would be really cool if your skyrim characters got pregnant though ! Just imagine if you played a female argonian ! Since argonians are reptiles, they'd lay eggs and you'd have to sit on it to keep it warm until it hatched, and protect it from predators! That would be a fun rp ! Not to mention having a giant egg sitting in your house for a while !
