What are the MUST HAVE perks for ANY build, and why?

Yeah true. I've made a pretty decent noggin basher from a Stalhrim Warhammer. You don't need to have Dragonbone or Daedric level weps.

A pre-patch save that I have not loaded in over two years.

I enjoy Savage Strike as well.

Sorry for "wounding" you, but you were quite condescending and critical of me in your previous replies.

Most of these people have waaay more exp than me at this but I have to respectfully disagree that there are no "must have's '' for all types of char.

For me Alchemy is a must for every char. I create because:

1. It's free to lvl. and create potions that both boost not just your alch. but also your char. lvl. quickly.

2. It makes money that is absolutely necessary to acquiring better gear.

3. All that you have to do is walk around and pick/gather ingr. which is perfect for low lvls.

4. At low lvl. the supplement boost is necessary to be effective.

All 3 Magick Resist perks in the Alteration tree (as already stated) for the obvious reason.

"Muffle" from the Sneak tree because even tanks need a bit of a surprise boost at higher lvls.and without it you'd have to be a exclusive range attacker that is very good at what you do.

Like I said choosing Alchemy is my personal opinion, many never touch it.

but the other 2 are beneficial to all builds.

I have a char. that is doing all 3 types Thief, Mage, Warrior, im in the 70's and to have a "Complete" char. there is a certain order to use that is most efficient.

What Alchemy does is it gives you the same benefits of the perks temporarily and it does this for ALL classes so if you happen to be indecisive on which class to specialize in potions will make you more effctive which will greatly aid you in choosing-

If it was 'nt for the Pickpocket potion being easy to create at lvl, 1 I would have never given the Thief class the necessary effort to become proficient at it, I mean you can't steal anything at lvl. 1 without some kind of supplementation.

Last but not least you can max Alchemy at 100 benefiting from it the whole time THEN Legendary it when its not necessary and redistribute like the perks at a higher lvl. giving you a sort of 10k plan which is ideal ESPECIALLY if you are going to be building a multi-specializer.

I pick perks that are appropriate to the character I'm roleplaying. There are no "must have" perks I pick for every character.

Nobody disagrees that many perks are very useful - but none of them are necessary for every character. Take Magic Resistance. Without crafting synergy shenanigans, you can cap magic resistance as a Breton with Agent of Mara, the Lord stone and a ring. Or switch Lord for Atronach and cap magic absorption instead, you don't need max resistance for the 20% of spells that go through. Or just don't cap anything at all, it's not like the game is unplayable without it.

I've been playing Skyrim since the beginning and I honestly cannot think of a single perk that is essential.

Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends on your perspective. :P

Now heres an answer to fit what you just said. If you feel you can level indefinitely, then all the perks are pertinent. Which perks you take at any given time in that characters "life" depends on what they are using at that time.

For a "specific " build you would use specific perks. .. for a character that is going to use all skills. .. every perk can be pertinent. ... depends on you.

there is one RULE when it comes to allocating perks ...............SAVE GAME ...........SAVE GAME............SAVE GAME

after that it relay depends on what you want to do...................there is no right or wrong way of playing ............that's one of the beautiful of Skyrim, that we all play the same game, but every one makes there own build,

in the long run you will always have more perks than needed especially level +50 .............so what do you do ?........follow the programing of the mind that says I have to USE the perks just because I have them ? ......thus spoiling a good playthrough or do you stick to the plan/build you started with ?

if you are playing LEGENDARY you need your perks and YES they are very important allocated into the right skill tree .............you will not survive otherwise because on legendary you have the (x 0.75 Vs x 3 damage) equation ...........so yes skills like Alteration / smithing / blocking / 1 x handed / enchanting become the foundation of any build .............its something you just cant avoid, its either that or your that good that can munch through a group of Deathlords with a 40pts damage mace (witch is impossible)

I'd finish it hard to manage the mana without the spell reduction perks for Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration, and Alteration. It's probably true of illusion as well, but it's always the last school I put mage perks into.
