What are the races based on?

Post » Mon Mar 15, 2010 8:15 pm

What do you think are the TES races based on? There are some easy ones but some hard ones as well, i wonder if there are some that are not based on any real life culture at all.

My guesses:

Tamriel:

Nords = Vikings

Imperials = Romans

Dwemer = Babylonian/Assyrian with a Hebrew writing

Khajiit = ancient Egyptians (live in desert, Egypt's cat culture, were in Tamriel before others)

Redguard = Arabic culture

Argonian = ???

Dunmer = ???

Altmer = ???

Bosmer = ???

Orcs = ???

Bretons = Brits?

Akavir:

Tsaesci = ??? (according to wikipedia, Japanese)

Ka Po'tun = Chinese

Kamal, Snow Demons = Himalayan Yetis

Monkey People = numerous Indian or Indonesian monkeys (though according to wikipedia, Vietnamese or the islanders of the South China Sea)

Others: ?

Khajiit = Nephilim, Argonian = Slithzerikai. Or maybe it's the other way around.

I've met a Breton Girl called Brittany. Seriously.

EDIT: Brittany is in France, not by it. ^_^

EDIT 2: I think Altmer were based on the Japanese

I don't think Sloads were based on a nationality/ethnicity, but a mentality: The "OMG we need multiplayer and gunzz!" mentality, to be precise. :P

Makes sense. I kind of guessed that Akavir was more so like Asia, with it's katana's and armor.

American-bashing, how classy. Anyways, as Lady N once taught me, the races may seem similar to some real-world cultures, they are ultimatley their own races, with their own countries
Nords=Nords
Altmer=Altmer
etc.

-edit-
Had to fix spelling mistake, stupid touch-screen

Yes, of course they are. They are based of real-world races and Beth puts a twist on their culture and/or appearance. Or they are completely made up from scratch.
