What are your absolute favorite things about New Vegas?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 5:08 pm

Just curious. For me, it would have to be the awesome dialogue and depth of conversations, like using Speech, Barter, Science, etc. I also love, like and absolutely hate certain NPCs and that's a lot more than I can say about other RPGs where I would only interact with the NPC for a quest or item. I actually have interest and want to interact with them. The world around me feels alive ( ironic for a wasteland, right? ) New Vegas would have to be my all time favorite game ever, flaws and all.

  • Addition of Ironsights
  • Story as well as the writing of the entire game
  • On the track of returning to the feel of the classics
  • Feels like humanity is rebuilding and not stuck in a 200 year abysmal pit of non-progression
  • Tiny Tots

I love the speech options, especially the options and the non speech skill/perk checks.

Something about a game that allows you to convince others to do things they wouldn't normally do intrigues me.
Spoiler
Like when Orion storms out of the enclave's meeting room because you want to support the NCR. Convincing him to side with the faction he hates makes me see the effects of my character.
But this could be said about any fallout game. Specifically pertaining to New Vegas, I love the western theme. Also it doesn't feel like it has JUST been hit by a bomb.

I love the feeling that you're participating in a clash of civilizations. And that you don't singlehandedly save or change the world or anything like that. It feels real.

After an awful round of blackjack, I'll execute the dealer. Thats good for lulz.

I really liked the ghoul space endeavour as well...

Probably testing a new weapon is my fave though, when it far exceeds my expectations and I joy-puke, loudly.

The storytelling. The game feels like it is written by people who actually know about writing and player impact.

  • The story telling.
  • The writing in general.
  • The political situation.
  • The number of choices.
  • The well-balanced weapon system and the huge crafting system.

http://killscreendaily.com/articles/reviews/fallout_new_vegas_dlc/also explains something that makes Fallout: New Vegas special. Read the whole thing. It might seem stupid at first, but it's really a good article imo.

Writing, writing, writing
  • Character depth
  • Story depth
  • Dialogue
  • How the DLCs are interwoven with the main game
And of course the crafting element (weapons, ammo, food, supplies, etc).

The storytelling and the fact that there are two sagas closely interlinked with one another. The main story and the DLC story are both so interconnected and they both point to one thing. Hoover Dam and the fight with Ulysses. Then, in Lonesome Road, you can make the end of the DLC saga leave a mark on the main story.

This about wraps it up for me. The new weapon system is great.

I mainly just love the feel of the Mojave. The setting along with choice of music and radio is so well done. That, and of course blowing Benny's head off with a Ranger Sequoia.

The Reputation System combined with the awesome story. That it feels like the spiritual successor to Fallout 2 :fallout:

New Vegas, overall, just feels more like an RPG than Fallout 3. I loved Fallout 3 but it was lacking in the role playing aspect of things. At least for me.

And other things already mentioned in this thread. New Vegas is a super-great game.

The characters, the quests... the overall writing in General. Once you have all the DLC the sheer number of options for builds when it comes to perks and gear is also very impressive. There's also that atmosphere that is uniquely Fallout a sort of strangely bright tinge to a dark world.

The way it makes me think when dealing with quests/ NPCs, about what's the best way forward and what my character would do. It's not just a good/ bad moral choice

The best thing about New Vegas is that my actions matter! What I do influences people and factions around me. My character makes and leaves an impact on the world! I love that! It brings so much depth to the game. The various choices in front of you also add to the re-play value of the game.

The DLCs are scary (DM), funny (OWB), moving (LR) and beautiful (HH). The story/writing and characters are amazing, in both the DLC and the main game!

I like the compaions because in fallout 3 you can get all of them because of yourr karma. Also Old world blues was very fun and that is it.

Exploration.
I would say exploration with a purpose (doing quests) & not like F3, where the game makes it up to you if you want to head to many places, you wouldn't even know without free venturing & by only following the MQ.
In NV most locations have a reason being there (or at least feel like).
