What are your favorite in the TES lore?

As the title says, is it an event? Maybe a war. Or is it a province or a race, maybe just one character?

And why is that your favorite?

I think that my favorite in the TES lore is the city of Daggerfall, I just love it because I think that its a great city with an interessting history. It is also the largest city in High Rock, my favorite province. To me though, picking one thing is extremely hard so I will just go with Daggerfall.

As a history student, my focus is always on time periods and the events happening in them (which usually narrows things down to certain regions). Overall, the First Era has always had a place in my heart, mainly because so much has happened in that period that we actually have records for. Of course, the First Era is more than three times longer than the Second, which was twice as long as the Third, so the First Era's extremely long length (being more than twice as long as the next two eras put together) means that there is plenty of time for these things to happen. Still, my attention is almost always drawn to the very beginning and the very end of the era, mainly because of the rise of the Cyrodiilic Empires of those time periods. Something about Oblivion's presentation of Alessia and Reman caught my attention and held it. For some reason, I have always enjoyed fictional rulers with actual, literal divine support. Therefore, I very much enjoy reading about the rise of Tamriel's Dragonborn Emperors--and of course, the paradox/stable-time-loop-thing that the Dragonborn Emperors are supported by gods that they themselves created makes it all the more delicious.

And of course there are the politics involved with the rise and expansion of Cyrodiil, the decline of Skyrim, the sudden appearance of ALMSIVI and the subsequent isolation of a powerful Morrowind, and the slow marginalization of the Summerset Isles, which had already begun by the end of the Merethic, but accelerated noticeably in the First Era as Men began to wield more and more power over Tamriel.

The politics of High Rock and the Summerset isles is also one of my favorites, much because of their complexity.

Battle at Red Mountain would be mine, I love the uncertainty around the exact details of that event, but I love it most of all because without it, so much would be different. It was such a poignant event.

I find the Reach Natives, their history, their culture, their spell-craft and the politics of The Reach to be absolutely fascinating. Probably because with been exposed to such tantalisingly small amounts of it! (I really wanna know what their pantheon is! Dx) Plus, I love the soft-spoken savage trope.

I also find trying to ascertain the objective truth of the origins of Mundus and the other planes to be really enthralling. I'd love to know more about what and who the Aedra were before all of the 'Creation' stuff occurred.

The nature of belief shaping reality in the Elder Scrolls universe is really fascinating too. Silent Hill's power has a similar appeal to me.

The Daedric Princes generally are really interesting too, though I find some of them to be utterly contemptible (Molag Bal and Boethiah in particular). Malacath is most interesting of the bunch. With his dogmatic Code, potentially tragic 'birth' and championing of the downtrodden.

I think it would be the life story of Tiber Septim. I love reading the different accounts on his origin, his common affairs, how he conquered Tamriel and about his eventual apotheosis into the enantiomorphic oversoul Talos. 'The Arcturian Heresy' is also one of my favourite books and is the closest to how I see reality around Talos. Same with the battle of Red Mountain, the mystery and many possible truths make it so interesting.

I would name other things I like alot, but since this is a 'favourites thread', this will have tot do.

I'm not a lore scholar, so my favorite things are bound to be somewhat superficial:

Any Morrowind stuff.

...and the ancient Nords. I'm with Hevnoraak that the Ancient Nords (with their dragon cult, architecture, burial customs and the Thu'um) are far more interesting than the contemporary; they are more of a truly unique culture and not just milkdrinker vikings.

Also Mara, because she is unique for a love godess. I like how Mara is a goddess both for romantic love and platonic love, and compassion ("Christian" style love). I think it is a good example of how Tamrielic views on love differ from most RL cultures.

I like Tamrielic religion overall. Religion is one thing that they seldom manage to make interesting in fantasy universes. It tends to be almost or completely nonexistent and/or boring and unimaginative.

Very much agreed. It is also because there is just so much detail and time being spent on it. Just look at all the different races and cultures, their pantheons and their different views on the 'same godly being'. The ingame books also show us plenty of discusion and conflict between separate beliefs, what makes it alot more believable and realistic. When you start reading into different creation myths, the amount interesting stuff only increases.
