What are your thoughts on Tent/Campfire

Post » Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:53 pm

I'd like it if the game was fairly realistic so basing off of New Vegas hard core mode ( I know was not by gamesas) where one must eat and sleep what if you could set up a small camp ( tent bedroll and campfire) and maybe a footlocker ( pass protected?) and sleep/cook/ eat there. ? maybe a good save point as well so if when you die you would only go back to either last town or your last tenting thing. Also you would be vunerable to other players when sleeping but would respawn a shord distance away to seek vengance when killed?

Yeah that's kind of what I had in mind to be honest except maybe you could interact with the tent and stuff a bit.

That's an interesting idea. Might be more viable if there was some type of waypoint function also. Then you could gather everybody in one spot before taking on a challenging adventure. They could also become miniurature centers for commerce, with the inclusion of a crafting type skill.

If each race/faction had their own type of tent or campfire. For example a raider might have a campfire while a Brotherhood of Steel recruit might have a camping stove.

It is an interesting possibility.

never build a camp fire in your tent ,take it from me its not a good idea and certainly dont build it in the entrance no no no .
but being serious i think being able to make camp where and when you see fit should be the way to go not at pre designated sites as is found in a certain game ,but the normal rules of fire should apply such as catching fire if you stand on it ,keeping away wild animals ,attracting others both friend and foe (human /ghoul),visible smoke trails unless camping under trees which difuse the smoke ,small health boost from warming the character near it at night ,maybe even sneaking through an enemys camp at night and suspending a duct taped grenade bouqet over the fire and getting the flock out of there to watch the ensuing chaos as the duct tape melts and tents get torched and raiders roasted .
i think making fire a usable weapon as well as a tool for crafting could be both fun and useful by usable weapon i mean not just a flamer or molotovs but the ability to start a blaze to create a distraction /diversion to do dastardly deeds EAGLES MAY FLY HIGH, BUT WEASLES DONT GET svckED INTO JET ENGINES

on a pvp server - love the idea of searching for pvp targets when they set the campfire.

you can use crafting skills only if you camp - cook only if you got a fire going etc.

also if you don't camp while trying to reach a certain destination you get a higher chance to be atacked by wild animals.

That above post sounds pretty good, sorry I didnt quote. Mentioned in a other post above I think you should be able to place tent and campfire wherever you`d like although maybe it could be suggested in the game or it would become an unwritten kind of rule sort of thing to group tents to trade with one another and maybe prepare for a quest , that sort of thing. But it should be your choice where to put a tent. sabotaging others tents and camp fires sounds like an excellent idea. Also to address another issue brought up in a different thread of what happens to your items when you die perhaps when you die the items you have on you at the time are lootable except for money and you wont have them when you re-spawn although your tent/campfire could come with a footlocker once set up and when you put items in there they would be safe from looters and would stay with you through out the game regardless of death.
