What are your thoughts on the Anthology?

Post » Sat Sep 14, 2013 8:03 pm

I just picked up my copy of the Elder Scrolls Anthology on Tuesday!

Its amazing! I love having all the games, on physical disk, brand new and in one nice neat package. The maps are incredible and so is the book the disks are housed in! Bethesda did a fantastic job w/ this one!

What are your thoughts, now that you have all the games together and can play them back to back?

I had a little trouble getting Arena and Daggerfall put together on DOS Box, but it happened and I got the settings just the way I like them. Not too happy about being bound to JUST the mouse though in Arena. I can't believe how TOUGH that game is so far. Its going to be amazing getting into it!

It just got delivered and I am very happy with it. The packaging is beautiful and the outer box is thick and sturdy. The maps are nice too. I really love all the sections and the way they were done. I'm glad the set comes in a clear plastic box to keep it safe from scuffs and scratches in transit. Overall, I am extremely happy with it. The Anthology is a great addition to my collection.

I think it's funny that my Daggerfall box dwarfs the anthology box :D

Was an instant must buy for me and I'm happy to have it sitting along with my other TES collection. Bethesda did a fantastic job with the packaging and I love having a map of Tamriel, Daggerfall and a new version of the Morrowind map.

Speaking of the maps, that reminds me...I have to make a run out to the local craft store and get some frames for those bad boys. They'll look AMAZING next to my Elder Scrolls Online posters ;)

What do the Illiac Bay and Tamriel maps look like? As far as I know, they're brand-new. We've received the maps of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim before.

Would it be Worth getting the Anthology when you already have the Morrowind and Oblivion GOTY editions, and the 'base' Skyrim (i.e. without any DLC)?

I have an old ratty and beat up copy of the Solsthiem map from the expansion. Did that come in the anthology? After 10 years of being on my wall and destroyed by the environment I took the poor thing down yesterday. It was being held together with tape in some parts. It would be great to get a new one and then just save this old one for memories.

They're similar in style to the Oblivion and Skyrim maps, I'll try and upload a picture later on. The Morrowind map has been altered to match the styles of the rest.

Sadly no, for some reason the Tribunal, Bloodmoon and Shivering Isles maps weren't included in the box. I would love to have gotten another set just to stick on my wall.

I'd like Bethesda to do the impossible - update all the games, including their mechanics, to the Skyrim engine and mechanics, and integrate them so you can play them all with one character travelling around to the regions.

Yes, I know it's completely impossible. But I would LOVE to have it.

My thoughts on The Elder Scrolls Anthology? A waste of $80 dollars (USD) because The Elder Scrolls: Arena does not have DOS patched out at all and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall do not have MS-DOS patched out at all as well and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim requires you to download Steam and install Steam still :/ so DOS, MS-DOS not getting patched out to run on DirectX 8 or a higher version of DirectX and Steam still being a requirement to download and install and not getting patched out makes me upset and in my opinion is a waste of $80 dollars (USD).

inXile Entertainment is re-releasing Wasteland which released in 1988 and runs on DOS and inXile Entertainment is re-releasing it with DOS patched out and DirectX 9 or some version of DirectX to run on and will release it for sale on http://gog.com/ and on Steam.

Also the manuals are in pdf instead of getting actual physical paper manuals :/.

ZeniMax Media Inc and Bethesda Softworks possibly a billion dollar (USD) video game publishing company and they can't even do what a very small video game development company can do makes me upset :/.

Sorry I am just sad at ZeniMax Media Inc as a video game publishing company and Bethesda Softworks as a video game publishing company since 2010 with the way they are doing business with their loyal paying customers.

I think the whole anthology package is targeted toward people new to the series, there wasn't any big selling point for me to buy it when I have already all the games ( in case of Morrowind and Oblivion I have even two discs one normal and one goty) If they inclueded spin-offs as well then maybe, but to me it was just rerelease of all game in one package.

I would so love this. The Halo people updated the first game in their series and it was fun to play and didn't feel old. I have the TES Anthology and I'm playing Arena right now, taking it slow as advised and got out of the prison at Level 3 and I'm in the town looking for the Mage's Guild now. It's quite a challenge, using the controls and trying to just move around. I'm sure it'll get easier but it really makes you appreciate how far the games have come. I'm enjoying it and will keep playing it through the coming winter, along with my current Skyrim game too. The maps with the Anthology really fire up the imagination and I had the same thought about playing through each game with the same character. If only....

I ordered mine yesterday by accident, actually. I was looking at it via Amazon on my Android and I texted my wife if she'd be OK with me ordering it. She had replied with, 'I guess.', but I was still kind of on the fence about it. I went to back out of the app using PIE controls and accidentally hit the "purchase" button due to the PIE controls having a delay. I am confused on one thing though; never having played Daggerfall and starting with Morrowind what games does it actually come with?

It lists five, I see Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim...what's the other game?

Oh, OK. I've never played Arena or Daggerfall, I started with Morrowind. Thanks for clearing that up for me. :)

I didn't say collectors because to me it doesn't feel like something for collectors it doesn't have any of the pointless stuff that always comes with collectors stuff

I admit I never really was to it collector edition the one that I own I got as a present and may have slighlty spoiled me but, in Kings Bounty Legend , I got an artbook , a stylized letteropener , pack of cards, leather bottle, bonus dvd , and all that packed in the wooden chest.

Elder scrolls anthology on the other hand , it just that an anthology all games pack in to one package, so I can't honestly callit a thing for fan collectors, unless when you say fan collector you mean someone who has to have every relese of the game that was ever relesed. I guess it just boils down to personal definitions.

Collector's editions don't need all that extra stuff. The games come in a collectible box set and this is a limited run item. That's why it is a collector item.

I'm very pleased. Skyrim is my first TES game so I'm excited that I now own all 5 titles with its DLC. I've been playing Morrowind for the first time and its pretty good. I can see why people like it so much. The music...damn.

The controls are clunky though, I'm used to the PS3 controller.

Once I have a solid PC, I'll be playing Skyrim.

You can use the keyboard with Arena. Also you can configure Daggerfall's controls to be similar to the later TES PC game's controls. Arena can too (like switching up arrow with w inputs in Dosbox's keymapper) but it will be harder to input typed answers in the game or naming your saves.
