What armor do you wear?

-Chinese Stealth Armor for sniping.
-Combat Armor Mk.II for the Boomer run or exploring in deadly areas.
-Reinforced Leather Armor and a Legion Veteran Helmet for general tomfoolery and that Mad Max look.
-T-51b for the Hoover Dam run.

I usually end up with Combat Armor with sets of faction armors with me (just in case I'm not in the mood for combat), and rarely with PA.

I wear black Combat Armor from Durable Dunns sacked caravan then upgrade to a Mk. 1, never upgrading to a Mk. 2, because i like to pretend its Talon Armor and the Mk. 2 is too light.

Early levels I wear the cool-looking Leather armor. Later, I wouldn't be without my Recon armor. :)

Eehh, it is too tight, its light colored and got those strange knob-like protrusions all over the torso, sooo stealthy

I know...that's why I enjoy the Leather early on. Later, it's about the stealth...and looking funny. :)

It has more to do with what metal armor is. Metal armor was supposed to be crudely fashioned metal plates. Fallout 3's looks too commercial.

Err.. what? Are we looking at the same metal armor here?

It has looks as though each individual piece was crafted specifically to work in conjunction with the other pieces, not a clunky-but-effective patchwork of scrap metal plating.

Like I said.... Err, what?

The combat armor has that look. But the metal armor? If you want cobbled together stuff, there's plenty of raider armor strewn about. The metal armor looks like a bit more time was put into fashioning it (as in, someone found some tools or a machine shop) but it still looks cobbled together. Maybe the fact that more effort was put into it is why it's head and shoulders over the raider getups.

Looking at the FO1/2 renders looks like this was the case with those too; like someone found some good bits of scrap metal and did some metal work on it.

So is this just another "it's not Fallout 1/2" issue?

I might pick up power armor for the endgame (it depends on who I'm siding with), but for the bulk of the game, I like Van Graff armor. It's got a good DT, and you can get multiple sets for free: just let that crazy guy blow up the shop, then loot the bodies.
