90% of the complaining is just useless whining

A direct quote from Bethesda, Pete Hines, announced yesterday.
Patches/updates take a little time, we can't turn it around quite that fast. It's been three days. Calm down. We're working on it..

The official answer to your question is, of course, they are paying attention.

The game hasn't even been out for a week yet and people are already wondering if Bethesda is listening and will fix problems? No. They won't. Ever. Games never ever get patched or otherwise improved in any way once they have been released.

The thing that is not obvious from these boards is that the number of complaints are absolutely dwarfed by the number of happy customers. A few hundred, even a few thousand, disgruntled players, some of whom are making baseless complaints out of their sheer ignorance (because they don't need to read the manual), are a miniscule fraction of the millions of people that bought the game in just a couple of days and haven't uttered a word against the game. The fact that those few are so vocal doesn't change anything and will not force fixes to come any faster. For every complaint on this forum (and the hilarious reviews on Metacritic that someone here linked to), I am seeing ten more people on other forums that have nothing but praise.

I work for a software company myself and I feel this is a bit harsh!.

Bugs are an unpredictable but, in my opinion, forgiveable aspect of games these days, especially with sandbox games like GTA and the Elder Scrolls series. Having been a game tester in the past I know how hard it is to test EVERY aspect of a game, every possible route to an objective, every action and reaction to performing a task, every weapon, every enemy encounter etc. It is impossible to foresee and fix every game bug by day one of a game's release. Personally I am thankful for the internet in these circumstances as games can now be patched easily. Back in the 80s and 90s bugs in games were permanent and we lived with it!

I have every faith that Bethesda is working on the most common issues that have been raised (as obviously these are the most important) and there will be an update very soon. Skyrim has only been out for a week, after all!

I don't think they care. They had a lot of complaints about Oblivion and not that many were adressed. I am actually emotionally flustered with disspointment at this moment. There's so many things that are bad and I don't understand why they went that way with them (or didn't do something/more with them). Perhaps I will be able to see the more positive side later, here's hoping, and hell, I've been trying to, but currently, I can't believe how many areas have had a step back. I mean they've got such a larger team, what the hell took all those resources? It honestly doesn't feel like much of a step towards what fans have been asking for at all.

More of the complaints seem to be about general balance issues, rather than incredibly severe bugs, with the exception of the 360's texture bug.
The balance stuff should have been fairly easy to stop if playtesting was done.

Beth probably realises the complainers on the forums are just a tiny fraction overall. If they were, say, 1% of the consumer base, i doubt they will be overly concerned.
Compared to the Oblivion complaints on here, after it was released, i`d say Skyrim negative feedback is not that huge.
The majority are still playing and enjoying the game.

People are so spoiled. I wish there was a game like this when I was a kid. The world is beautiful-immersive-dark, the story is amazing, the characters are endearing. The story writing in this is better than New Vegas.

I would provide my input but every thread I post in when talking to the Op he never responds, so I'm mostly ignored.-.- Also features aren't really missing. Take Radiant AI for example, Op, which I have provided proof for you multiple times.

Skyrim is the best game I've ever played. But just add first person riding and first person beast form, and I'm completely satisfied!

There is this poll somewhere on the forum that asks people t vote if Skyrim is their all time favorite game top 3 top 10 or top 25... To my own surprise it's currently something like Top 3 followed closely by favorite game of all time... If anything the reactions have been maybe overhyped.

I'm pretty sure that we will see a fix to destruction and the broken smithing/enchanting/alchemy in an upcoming patch though, if they do that, it would be a testimony that they do check the forums.

Regarding the faction's quests being too short... Sadly, too bad for us : / UI being clunky? We'll see in the upcoming patch... In fact I believe the only answer we have to your topic is : we will see in the upcoming patch how closely they listened to our complains.

It's a patch. It will fix bugs. It's not going to make any design/game improvements.

I have to say I think it is apalling that they have released the game in its current condition. I appreciate not EVERYTHING can be tested, but surely the texture problem on Xbox 360 and the CTD problem came up amongst many others. Chances are they got close to release and were still aware of the many fixes required but made a judgement call on time to market/ROI and what the fan base would stomach. They probably already have a team working on the expansion pack!

To me it is ridiculous the way customers (especially PC customers) get treated thease days - RAGE was a joke when it was released!

If only we could create a majority of us and force them to release either a more complete patch that the one we know they will release, a free DLC pack to apologise and a fully polished game next time around. To be clear we do have this power, we could boycott future products, but we won't because we are the general public who will continue to get shafted time and again and put up with it. Pity.

Just so you know - I LOVE THIS GAME - it is definately in my all time top ten without doubt I just wished more polish was added.

Overall the game is fantastic, but I do hope Bethesda take some of the criticisms onboard. Especially:

  • The poor UI (particularly for PCs)

  • Overly simplified character development / levelling. - Attributes should never have been removed, nor should certain skills; and everything feels too weighted on perks, which have their own flaws. (Perks should really just be there to compliment attributes and skills, not to dictate character definition / progression completely. When I level up, I basically alternate between Health and Stamina, which doesn't say much about my character at all. And increasing skills doesn't seem to do much - instead it just feels like i'm working towards milestones in order to unlock the next perk)

  • Faction questlines are far too short... and I can't for the life of me understand why. Bethesda must know that factions are one of the most popular features of the series.

A game as immense a Skyrim takes time to patch. And as has been stated before, the game has been live for like 3-4 days?

By the reactions here I take 90% of everyone is a 14 yo basemant kid who has never ever been assigned a task to do, nevertheless work for something.
Get real and stop whining. Because that is what most topics here are about, crying and whining about miniscule things.

Bugs like crashes is one thing to address but balancing skills? Not first prio.

Let people play for a few months and sort out the graphical bugs, CTD's then start thinking about balancing perks, spells and so on.

The game is awesome. Too bad I got a business to run and a girlfriend to communicate with.. #vacation

To be honest, I'm so glad you won't be ever able to create a majority to force Beth to do that kind of nonsense you've posted here. Because crazy people won't ever be a majority. This game is already awesome and relatively bug-free so BIG THANK YOU, BETH! Don't listen to whiners and carry on!
