What's Brink?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 8:37 pm

So, this is not my problem...I'm excited for Brink and think it will be an excellent gap between No BF3 and the Release of BF3...but I'm realizing how many of my 100 friends on xbox live don't have a bloody clue as to what this game is.

Where's the advertising? Will Brink be doomed to a "Sleeper Hit"?

So far I've succesffully turned on 4 of my friends, who, upon discovering Brink's site, ran out of their house to preorder it; one nearly crashing his car thinkning "May" was "March". But so many still are asking, "Whats Brink?"

I have only seen two Ads so far, one in the latest Xbox Magazine and another in a small poster at my Gamestop months ago.

Is Brink failing in terms of Advertising for Bethesda's *pause for drool* Skyrim?

Wow. Let me put away my flamethrower real quick. Anyway, I think they'll step it up in April. It's better now than what it was in January believe it or not.

Could do with some Youtube promotion. Anyone remember the amount of Kane and Lynch adverts all over youtube. Even with the advertising people still hated it lol.

I've actually come across a few forced ads on Youtube as of late. They show a small portion of the cinematic trailer.

Doomed? Doomed to be a sleeper hit? All the best games are sleeper hits! So what, it might not sell like hot cakes on day 1, but i bet any money that hype for Brink comes post-release like it did for Borderlands and it gives birth to a whole new big shooter franchise that promotes innovation in design, and teamwork in play! :celebration:

Yup, but the diffrence will be brink will actually work, and the devs will.suport it after release.

Borderlands got loads of post release DLC and what not, and it works fine on my 360.

Borderlands was an online flop, tbh. It's quite unplayable, figuratively speaking... a game's no fun when you or your friend has a 2-second delay to their controls.

If you have it for 360 like I do, I don't see why that would be happening. I can go online at any time and find at least a few people willing to play together, lagless.

Absurdity. It worked fine for me and everyone I played with. Maybe someone was using too many haxxored guns in your matches.

Me and one other friend could hardly play. When I hosted it was laggy his end, and I couldn't even join his matches. Any game I try join it's like MASH X MASH X MASH X... ... *jump* ... SPAM R1 SPAM R1 SPAM R1... ...*bang* ...

Aaaahh but then my connection is pretty rubbish.

According to "DOUK", Brink is an obvious All Points Bulletin rip-off.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/something-for-brink/711463

Seems just like APB except...
- Its not free
- No vehicles
- No open world
- Far worse customization
- First Person Perspective
- Forced into a class system
- Abstract "cartoony" character graphics
- Every weapon is intended to be hip fired aka sprayapalooza

Only things going for it would be:
- Console Support
- Melee
- Better movement system

Kinda sad since I had high hopes for Brink to satisfy my APB craving when APB went down.

Except not because there's this magical thing called APB: Reloaded.

Splash Damage must be saving a [censored]load of money by holding off on their marketing. If you think about it, they're using word of mouth to get info about this game out. I'm sure most people here have already told, what.. at least 5 people about this game? Meanwhile, games like Black Ops spend hundreds of thousands to film TV spots with Kobe Bryant that could be better spent on producing a higher quality game. Maybe one that doesn't spawn you on a live grenade in front of three enemies? But I digress..

No i agree with you there. if all the money for ad's and what not are going into making a better game. then one has to sit back and think maybe this is going to do just what they say it will.

It's Bethesda's money, SD doesn't do the marketing, and BlackOps cost $50 million to make and $200 million to market release

My mistake, Bethesda is saving a [censored] ton of money. Either way its not a bad way to go about handling the release, but it'd still probably be a good idea to pump out a few ads by April. And I'm not just saying that because I'm starved for Brink videos. :whistling:

I'd never heard of All Points Bulletin until now... and I gotta admit, it looks pretty damn amazing. :o In what way did it fail?

And it's insane how much money goes into advertising. Tbh Brink doesn't NEED a lot of players to function unlike a game like MAG, which though it seemed to have little-to-no advertising (much less than Brink, anyway) still has more than enough players to function a year later, and it still bringing in new players on a daily basis. It also sold over a million copies and earned Zipper their profit...

Millions and millions into marketing isn't really necessary for Brink. CoD only does it to further their hold on the market and maintain their presence, probably for future releases in the franchise. I mean everybody in the world must know what 2 yellow arches on a red background symbolizes, but it doesn't stop McDonalds flashing us it every ad break. Brink doesn't really have that audience yet to work on.

Thats the thing, APB looked amazing....but the gameplay was very imbalanced, and choppy, and they had very bad server connections. So the Devs closed it down. (There were other reasons but I am not aware of them)
