What Brotherhood Of Steel Division is in Boston?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 1:56 pm

Caesar isn't afraid of anything, and everyone wants to see how tough he really is. You think we wouldn't have heard if he shied away from the BoS? My guess, is he say that going West had more strategic value than going East. Besides, he was a Follower of the Apocalypse before he was Caesar. He knew all about what the NCR was, and he wanted to beat them at there own game. Massive expansion. You know why else he went West? Because bullets can't poke holes in plot armor. Obsidian didn't want to invent some new lore for what happened farther East (just yet) and to the long-time Fallout fans, nothing brings them in more than going back to see what happened after 1 and 2.

Had to make a new account couldn't remember my account info.

Anyway my reasoning for why it might be CWBoS is maybe they are chasing down Dr. Li because she stole something very valuable from them when she "left."

CW branch under the command of Arthur Maxson with the outcasts brought back into the fold.

They will be based at Logan.

Doubt it. BoS aren't going to be under the command of a 10 year old, let alone a 20 year old. If game in 2277, no way Arthur is leader, and even if 10--20 years later, it would be doubtful.

If it was set in 2277 you would be correct.

My guess is that it is not.Got a hunch on this one.

For anyone who thinks its CWBoS, (and please forgive me if i sound like an ass, not my intention) could you explain the airships? The other stuff and things such as the vertibirds and PA can be explained by adams AFB, but where did the airships come from in such a short time period?

It's actually set in 2377. After emerging from cryo-freeze, the first quest is to fix your cryo-pod so you can sleep another 100 years and get away from the terribleness that is outside your door!

The airships weren't explained in Fallout Tactics either. The Brotherhood just had them. Why would it be any different this time around? After the Brotherhood marches across North America for reasons that make no sense a throwaway line about Lyons building airships is suddenly too unbelievable for people?

If the Enclave power armor had made in appearance in a Fallout 3 trailer people would've been speculating to no end about how the MWBOS must be in the game or at least the power armor must have some connection to Tactics and guess what it was just a thing that Bethesda liked so they used it without any explanation or connection to Fallout Tactics. This will be the same.

More than likely, the idea of airships in Tactics came from Tustin AFB, which was just north of Interplay. Bethesda is just "refurbishing" old ideas when it comes to the airship we see in FO4. Bethesda has used ideas from other games and just because you see an airship doesnt mean the MwBOS is going to be in FO4. The BOS symbol is the same as the flag flying over the Citadel. Sarah Lyons states the BOS will scavenge the whole East Coast of Virginia at the end of Broken Steel, naval airships have a strong history in Virginia. They could easily build on this fact.

He is mythical even to Celts. Scholars debate his actual existence even today as there is no concrete evidence that he ever existed outside of myths and stories.

yeah that is the only point i have hard time to find a good explanation. At the same time is hard for me to imagine why the MWBoS move to Boston since they lose the airships too. yeah True they could have been rebuild.

If is actually the CWBoS i hope there is a good explanation about the airships.... i put it on plural bc it look like there is more that one.

here is the explanation http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Airship

For one thing, the Legion never made it past the Midwest, also what is your source for the date of FO4?

The symbols aren't definitive; they both use them. The Lyon's BoS reverse the [censored] out of their own symbol so it's inconsistent.

The Lyon's expedition was an effort by the Broken Hills elders saying "well [censored], we're gonna be in a bad pickle, let's see if we can find out what happened to the guys we sent west - maybe they found some good [censored]." That failed. Nobody really discredits the notion that Lyon's Brotherhood can build an airship - it's assumed by all that it's common knowledge among the scribes. The point of contention is whether they had enough time to build an airship. MAYBE they can pump out an airship in two months, but I am extremely skeptical that even the BoS would manage that after ending an exhausting war.

The MwBoS is still the most likely candidate because 1) They have direct access to wrecks and husks of airships 2) I doubt Lyon's built an airship in the span of two months after coming out of a long war of attrition with the Enclave (whom they barely beat) 3) The CwBoS were pretty intent on building their iron giant trump card at the end of BoS.

As an aside, Bethesda making the Enclave have the borrowed style of power armor from tactics is pretty obvious - it didn't make a whole lot of sense that a rogue group of exiles were able to develop their own unique power armor (especially since the Enclave were still running around - and they're the kings of military RND during that time period).

There is no explanation there because there is none in the game. The Brotherhood just built airships. That's the extent of the explanation that Tactics gives and the equivalent of that will be the extent of the explanation that Lyons' Brotherhood will get for its possession of them in Fallout 4.

You're attempting to look at this from a realistic point of view instead of from a development point of view. Realistically the presence of the airships would be a hint that the only Brotherhood faction with access to and use of airships is the one we're looking at. But Fallout obviously isn't real. It makes no sense for Bethesda to have created their own force of Brotherhood on the East Coast and then to immediately abandon that faction for the sequel in favor of a group they have laid absolutely no groundwork for and most of their fanbase knows nothing about suddenly appearing in Boston and playing a major role. There is nothing the MWBOS can do from a developer's perspective that Lyons can't.

And again the point with the power armor is that Bethesda has done this exact thing before so why is it strange they would do it again? They saw an element from Tactics they liked and put it in their game but it had no connection whatsoever in universe to Fallout Tactics just as the airships will have no in-universe connection with the Midwest Brotherhood (well there might be a throwaway reference that this isn't the first time the Brotherhood has used airships) but will be something Lyons' chapter has built or found.

That's short sighted because there is a development point of view for having the MwBoS, and that is introducing a faction that is fresh and neutral. What does this do?

1) Fo3 players won't feel tied to the new faction. If it's the Lyon's brotherhood, people will feel compelled to join up with them due to rosy retrospection from Fo3. The other factions may have good reasons for joining them, but there will exist that tugging feeling to join the BoS. Same thing happened with the Imperial Legion vs Stormcloaks.

2) There's potential set up for the MwBoS to possibly clash with the CwBoS in a future title. An eastern counterpart to the Bear vs Bull debacle over in the West.

--

They don't have an issue with introducing new factions. Do you think people were extremely confused over the fact that the Mage's guild or the Fighter's guild didn't make an appearance in Skyrim? They replaced them with two new guilds. The Brotherhood of Steel is still the Brotherhood of Steel - they're just composed of a few splinter factions that think they're special snowflakes. They all tip toe along the same line in the sand.

I don't mind suspending my belief in the name of developing a fun and enjoyable environment. I make that sacrifice when I see a companion waltz up after being riddled with bullet (which I prefer), or how jamming 50 stimpaks into your chest cavity can mend the broken bones, bullet holes, and 3rd degree burns you suffered from the recent battle.

But as far as story goes, and from what we all DO know about the CwBoS, them magically appearing with an advanced airship contradicts EVERYTHING they were up to at the end of Broken Steel. Beginning with the mangled state they were in and ending with their vested interest in rebuilding Liberty Prime with iterations on the old design - unless the poor LW was wasting his time turning in all those lightbulbs and fission batteries and better off selling them - poor bastard.

Unless they WANT people to join the BoS, just like how Skyrim so heavily favored The Empire over the Stormcloaks.

Bethesda wouldn't make the last heir of the founding family of BoS named Arthur unless they believed the BoS has some "destiny".

That same argument could be used to justify that the MWBoS should have been the "other" force in New Vegas.

Didn't stop Obsidian from making up their own new faction regardless.

Or, you know, they could have named the kid with the intention of saying 'his parents thought he had some destiny', but then turn around and make him a terrible leader. Also, he may not be the leader at all. Or, hey, they could have just used Arthur because it fit with the naming style of the BoS.

(also, Caesar's Legion wasn't a new faction - that was something created way before Bethesda even bought the rights to Fallout)

The vertibirds that we have seen also are a decent amount different then the ones from broken steel.

The power armor, and I am not just talking about the T-45 to T-60, the insignia isn't the same as the insignia on the armor in F3, or the captured vertibirds insignia.

The main thing is the time frame between Broken Steel and F4. Fallout 4 takes place a few weeks after Fallout 3, Broken Steel takes place around the same time as F4, so even less then 3 weeks.

It's not DC Citdal Lyons division from F3, and it may not even be MwBoS, but they have higher chances then the DC BoS.

Chances are knowing bethesda, they just introduced a brand new BoS division. This way they can come up with any back story for every aspect, the Vertibirds, the air ship, the armor, everything.

Seems counter to introducing 2-3 other joinable factions if they're gunning for a BoS bias.

A kid in the broom closet who is also still 10 years old with respect to Fo4's start date doesn't scream manifest destiny. Unless they're using two games to set up Maxson's entrance, it can also be Bethesda saying, "hey look it's Maxson, remember his legacy...guys?" He can be an homage and nothing more.

They dragged Harold all the way over from the West as well and ended his story right there and then in the oasis.

All this stuff just tells me Bethesda was trying to fedora tip to the older fans and say here's all the character's you remember from the first 2.

Except the Legion had it's roots since Van Buren. They didn't make up another force, they chose a faction that they had originally set up in the beginning to contest the NCR.

Right, except, as Fallout 3 showed, Bethesda LOVES naming characters with names that fit their narrative role.

It was a new faction because Van Buren isn't canon, and I never said WHEN they made it up, only that they did instead of using an already existing faction from canon.

Not really, especially if its for a narrative point like in Skyrim.

Who says he is still 10?

Except Harold's story isn't over, especially not if you didn't kill him, and even more if you allowed the trees to spread faster from Oasis.

Except I never said it didn't. Read what I wrote in response to Langy. You are so eager to argue you are starting to twist what was actually said.

-2277 says he's still 10, unless they're feeding the kid anabolic steroids and preservatives to make him grow like a foster farm's chicken.

-Harold's story is still confined to D.C as far as we know.

-No. Regardless of it being canon or non-canon, it's still conceptually a developed faction.

I'm eager to discuss it if anything. The kettle shouldn't talk either way.

That is if it is 2277. Remember, there are no werewolves in Skyrim.

As far as we know, but Vault 22's story has spread as far as southern Oregon, despite being a static location itself.

Concepts mean very little, as even Obsidian mentioned that basically everything in NV was only related to stuff in Van Buren by name. In Van Buren The Legion wasn't very large, nor was it the big enemy, it was just some small group of guys that existed.

-Mmm, i'll stick to what Pete Hine's and Todd Howard have been saying regarding the start date. They also never denied the existence of Werewolves in Skyrim. Trust me, I followed Skyrim's development closely. They never confirmed their existence. Two different things.

-Yes, but Vault 22 has had the luxury of nearly 2 centuries to spread, and people infected by the spores served as catalysts for spreading it even quicker. Harold has only had two months.
