What is C0DA

Post » Sat Dec 14, 2013 12:38 pm

It's not. To date, it's only been mentioned in http://www.imperial-library.info/content/loveletter-fifth-era-true-purpose-tamriel http://www.imperial-library.info/content/forum-archives-michael-kirkbrideby Michael Kirkbride. He's an ex-dev, but still does some contract work on the series. His writings are pretty much the only fleshed-out source on most of the more esoteric metaphysics of TES, though many of his concepts have been indirectly or directly referenced in the games & novels.

I believe C0DA isn't so metaphysical, since in the Loveletter it mentions bloodlines being certified by C0DA. This pretty much confirms C0DA as being an entity, record or organisation in my book.

The C0DA breaking can mean various things. If it is an entity, C0DA died and was reborn. If it was a record, it was merely a Dragon Break or something else that screwed up history. If it was an organisation, the organisation split into smaller organisations that then rejoined.

I feel kinda stupid for not thinking of hex values... Great /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Still if you look at the values 192 and 218 both mean nothing really. For it to be a network adress we are still missing two parts. It's not an absolute value (255) or a starting value (0). Hell it's not even in the centre. Of course it could be just like you said and nothing more then a small reference to the fact that we are playing a videogame...

Cool thanks, you just linked C0DA to the 36 lessons, I don't know whether to call you brilliant, or incredibly annoying for making this even more confusing to me. Probably both.

The Captive sage :
"'The presence of deaf witness, this is what the numbers are. They hang onto the Aurbis as the last nostalgia of their godhood. The effigies of numbers are their current applications; this is folly, as above. To be affixed to a symbol is too, too certain.' "

Feels like finding a secret message in the numbers, only to discover that message was put there all along just to tell you the numbers don't matter.

Or perhaps it could be a developer saying "I am no longer the creator of this world. Their vision is not mine. I should let go."?

You could actually read a rant against subsequent games into lesson 35 if you wanted, but you would have to be a seriously cynical person, and maybe a conspiracy theorist to boot.

I'm not sure of conspiracy theorist but perhaps I am cynical. There's just something in the 36 lessons that make me feel empathetic towards the author. Lesson 13 for example:

It's like he just wanted to come out and say "You ruined my vision. You killed my world."

Heck, the more I read the 36 lessons the more sad it makes me. Am I nuts? /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Mama, we're all krazee now. Especially if Vehkship paravants are so much more important than 'ohmigodz, they took out medium armour! Ruined!'.

No idea, as usual.

Leaves us with a duality, with your idea and my uneducated/hey it sounds vaguely interesting/lore forum new player idea.

A C0DA paravant is information/personality states/something that will approximate an avatar when it reaches full possibility, OR ex-dev lore, originating from Vivec looking at the wheels in the telescope OR MK post-Bethesda employment, and a Vehkship is either a craft for navigating probabilities from the ultra rarified to the mundane and certain OR a forum post.

OR I am talking nonsense.

Oh why'd you have to go and do that!

*edit*
Where did this quote come from? Furthermore what does it mean? A deaf witness in the numbers? The numbers represent something gone, but the meanings are only paper shells that barely represent the numbers? What then are the titles affixed to the numbers? Surely they mean more than nothing.

And yes, I know what the numbers actually reference to. I've always been transfixed by the names though.

Hey if you're talking nonsense I probably wouldn't know it as I know even less about these things. It is easy to misinterpret someone else's work but even wrong guesses can be useful in the pursuit of truth. At the end of the day the only person who can truly tell us what it all means is MK and he ain't talking. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Wait a minute, do you feel it? I felt it, just then. That magic TES feeling. Of being utterly confused.

No, that's not it. It's the suspicion that all of this adds up to some grand metaphysical framework that the world knows of, but you do not. Thats what playing Morrowind felt like all those years ago.

Does anyone know what I mean?

If you mean what I think you mean then no, he didn't. He just denied one possibility. He didn't talk. /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Read the 36 Lessons of Vivec. You'll be enlightened. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Oooooh...sarcasm. Pfff...well I did read the sermons and I enjoyed them very much. As to what, if any, hidden message it contains its all speculation. I shall quote Vivec once more:

Well seeing as Vehk wrote the sermons for the Nerevarine specifically, and understood what The Nerevarine would have to do to stop the Sharmat, maybe the feeling of 'so long, thanks for all the fish' is simply Vivec.

I'll take this.
The Captive Sage is 29. 29 + 1 is the Scarab.
The Prison-Shirt is 35. 35 +1 is the Hours.

So we have The Scarab Hours.

Or maybe it is just a reference to The Captive Sage and The Prison Shirt. There is a secret message hidden in The Captive Sage which reads:

Perhaps there is a similar message hidden in The Prison Shirt. Or perhaps we're just being led on a merry chase. /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
