What camera will you play at Skyrim?

Post » Thu Mar 31, 2011 2:32 am

some say that 1st person camera is more immersive while others love seeing their character interact with the world in 3rd pseron camera.
in oblivion the horrible animations and inability to aim ranged attacks prevented a lot of ppl from considering this option seriously while only a handful of mods improvd the situation a bit.
Let's assume the 3rd person perspective in skyrim will be good and useful, meaning that aiming a spell or archery is going to be effective just like in any 3rd person shooter and the animations will look cool

if this case is correct, how will you play Skyrim? in first or third person camera? and why?

I couldn't vote any of those. I play 1st most of the time, but sometimes switch to 3rd, at no particular time just when i feel like it.

These polls always depress me because I'm in the vast minority. I'll play almost exclusively in third-person mode, except to aim the crosshairs at something specific. I really enjoy being able to see my character, and it's quite boring to roleplay in first-person mode, as I roleplay for a third-person-subjective point of view, I don't pretend that I am my character.

No need to be depressed. Nothing wrong with that. (I'm not being sarcastic).

3rd person for checking out the arrows sticking out of my character's chest.

Other than that, 1st person for everything.

I didn't see the option for first person most of the time and 3rd person when I get sick of first person. I like to use the 3rd person when I crouch and walk through the land. I think it looks nice with all the purty graphics of the grass and trees and things like that. Most of the time I stay in first person.

I play third person and first person fairly equally, but I lean more toward third because I like seeing my character... :)

Same here. Not a surprise considering 3rd person has always been a bit "off".

You need a new option. Something along the lines of a strong mix of both, or all depending on how I feel at the time. That's how I'll play anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed both in OB(although 3rd person was a little weak in terms of how it was presented visually to the player). It's been awhile since I played OB but if I remember correctly it wasn't that the aim was inaccurate in 3rd person, it was just that depending on how far away from the character's body you set the camera the aim was shifted away from the central point of focus on-screen. It took a little getting used to and a little bit of abstract thinking and trial and error, but once I figured out exactly how to aim my projectiles, or line up my cursor/reticle slightly off center when trying to tediously pick through a patch of flowers or mushrooms it was a snap.

First person the majority of the time, but I'll switch to 3rd sometimes for a change up. Now that 3rd person is supposedly improved then I might play it a little more than I have.

I'd say 1st person 70% since I use it almost always in combat and sometiems when travelling. However 3rd person is also good for when travelling especially with new aniamtions

Mix of both, but more first person. I'm interested in seeing how much third person has been revamped.

I chose first-person all the time but there are times I use third person. It's not specific to any other activity like combat or travel or aiming. I might do it for all of those if I think of it just to get a look but I'm a first-person player almost all of the time. It makes me feel like I'm in the story. :)

Both depending on how I feel at the time, though I do like 3rd sometimes when fighting,to see my movements/actions and relateion to each other, but 1st is good for getting stuck in.

To me the 3rd person camera view is the best all-around camera angle. Especially for fighting and exploring.
I used 3rd person in Oblivion and the Fallout series as much as possible... regardless of how broken it was.

First person feels almost claustrophobic.
Besides, who runs around holding a shield and sword in front of their face at all times...?

The fact that 3rd person hasn't been a viable option for all parties in the previous ES installments was due to technical/developement issues.

Leave the 1st person for Call of Doodie [censored].

1st person most of the time. I switch to 3rd person only when I'm travelling and nothing special is happening. In 3rd person I can see my character's tail, yay. :D

Mostly 1st person for arrows and spells

Pretty much always 3rd person for melee

Whatever I feel like for traveling, but mostly 3rd person

I keep switching between perspectives all the time, whatever I feel is better right now.

All in all I prefer 3rd person, 1st person shows very little of the environment.

bah. i should have given the option to "whenever i feel like it i change" :P
option added, albeit a bit too late.

i also play only in 3rd person. in 1st person if there is no weapon in my hand (so i can sense the body of my character) or if i cant see my legs when i look down or my arms when i open a door than it feels more like a floating camera than through the eyes.
in 3rd person i can see my character and how it looks, i can see my weapons\shield on my back, i have a good sense of how my character interacts with the environment (how it walks on the ground, how it bumps into objects, how it's crouching in the shrubbery or barely lit in the shadows of a dungeon. it feels more like it's in the world. it's just my opinion.

but i do agree that 1st person is the most immersive. it just comes at a coast, IMO.

Same here. Sometimes I just love seeing how awesome my character looks in armor and weapons. I say to myself, "Damn! I look GOOD!"
