What console are you getting Skyrim for?

Post » Wed Jan 27, 2010 4:36 am

I wouldn't dream of investing in a brand new computer for the sake of playing one game. I have a PS3 and Xbox 360. I'll probably get Skyrim for the PS3 because it's quieter and the noise from the Xbox would really annoy me when playing a game as immersive as TES.
If you download to your hardrive on the older model 360 it runs damn quiet. Done it ever since my cat knocked over my XBox and caused the disc to get scratched. You should try it out. I hear the new ones are even quieter, can't vouch for those though.

ill probably be getting it for PC

my computer can handle dragon age 2 just fine so i imagine itll do fine on skyrim

i suggest you get it for computer for a few reasons

1. Mods (mods are awesome)

2. You can share maps made in the CS with other people

3. Ease of use, i just find computers much more easier to use

ultimately its up to you, the game will be awesome no matter how you play it, whatever's easy and works for you.

I would have to agree, and that's another reason I was considering getting a good com to play it. I was just figuring, if I'm getting a com, may as well get a good one. :D

And if you get a good one, you'll be able to use it for 1-2 years (maxing the games graphically) ;) and 3-4 years (being able to play)

Seriously, why people still buying these consoles? Isn't better to play games on hardware and software which gives you the flexibility to improve your experience over time, not just the mods which is quite an huge outlook, but the most obvious HW upgrades from gfx cards, drivers, software, and the possibility to tweak your game to your likes.

Come on guys console is just hyped stuff, get out of this dull locked down entertainment. It only favors the same 3 guys, Sony, MS and NINTENDO. More openness please.

I can only speak for myself, but I actually like the inflexibility of the consoles, weird as that sounds. Its a stable platform which means that games are easier to code more efficiently. I dont want to tweak the hardware, I just want to play the games :P

I guess that makes me lazy, but the games dont feel any more dull than the pc ones I play (which is to say, not at all!), and the market is just as competitive as the pc. Theres a few other things that I prefer too, but ultimately I'm not saying any platform is better than another - they are all viable options. Even the Wii :P

If you're not rich then in my opinion getting a new gaming PC is worth it only if you're good with computers. And I mean so good that you can build the computer cheap yourself with good parts (premade computers' parts either svck or the computers are overpriced).

 Well, I'm certainly not rich, and I didn't build my last computer myself. Most folks could do what I did, find your local computer services small business and get them to price a computer for you. Sure it will still be more than an Xbox, but a lot cheaper than getting one through Dell or something, and it will last you a lot longer and be more powerful. No fuss no mess.

I never understood why folks think building a computer is some unintelligible epic quest like process that can only be completed by wizards. "How did you get your computer?" "A wizard did it!"

All of that said, mods alone make this game worth getting on the PC. I couldn't imagine playing a game like this on a console.

Xbox 360 (or PS3) is nice for if you want to sit back on a couch and you have a pretty decent sized TV. Wireless controllers are a luxery.
You can connect your computer to your TV, but it's not as practical as a console.

on the other hand, PC has mods which are pretty cool, and in some people's opinion greatly increase gameplay experience, but playing Morrowind on the Xbox is way better IMO than Morrowind on my Computer, despite all the mods i have... RIP my Xbox Morrowind.

All in All, Even if i get an expensive better computer, I'm probably going to get my Skyrim on Xbox. but i for one have little interest in creating mods or even using mods (maybe in a couple years when there's a wide selection, but still I'm gonna get it on 360 on release date (even if i had a powerful enough computer)).

It is NOT worth it. A PC is good for 4 things gaming wise:

1) Mods

2) Better Graphics

3) Playing MMORPGs

4) Playing Strategy games

Everything else can be played just fine on a console. Some strategy games are getting easier to control on consoles as well, and hopefully we'll start seeing more good MMORPGs coming to the consoles. So, unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars for mods (that can cause your game to be even more unstable) and slightly better graphics... , well go ahead.

If you're going to play Skyrim on it though? Stick with the xbox...

however recently I've been hearing that the 360 is actually rather old and not as good compared to the new PS

Let me guess, you heard that from PS3 users? they are all big headed and think theyr console is the best thing on the planet just because it cost the most. The only thing the ps3 has thats better than 360 is blu-ray and thats not much better. Just get it on 360, no point paying up to 2000 for a decent pc when you can play the exact same game at minimal difference to the 360 version...

The trailer was filmed on the Xbox360, to give you an idea.

A good Skyrim PC would set you back around $800.

Lots of people say the price point is that low, but usually they're wrong, or they're assuming the existence of peripherals and excluding them from the cost. Personally, I have yet to find a PC that can handle the latest games at a price below $1200. Even if you DO find a good PC, eventually you're paying more, but it won't be in hard currency, it will be in sanity. And don't even get me started on building a PC. But ANYWAY.

I play on a 360. Until it becomes obsolete, the only thing I ever have to worry about is buying the games. Thus, I will be getting Skyrim for the 360.

OP.

Xbox360 + dlc - ?
PS3 + no cpu sound - maybe no dlc.
PC + dlc, graph and mods - You don't have one.

If you plan to play the game to death, get a PC (imo).

I have been a console gamer for years(5+) and i just recently bought a gaming pc(like 2 weeks ago) First thing i noticed, the graphics are completely stunning compared to my console, with anti-aliasing and a view distance halfway across the world(i have ati radeon hd 6850)And theres mods.. completely change the game you want too, for example, if you want a modern warfare 2 acr gun in your fallout game, you can get it. The experience of building my pc was also awesome. It wasnt difficult, and made me feel smart afterwards, lol. ive already noticed the lack of me playing my 360 after i got this computer. Haven't touched it in a week, and i used to be on it every day.. im definitely a pc gamer now. But after all this, i spent quite a bit of money ($800+) and some people dont have that kind of money(i sold some stuff, got some for my birthday and christmas, ect.) and a consoles fine, i still occasionally play mine, i just like pcs better. So, enjoy choosing, and by the way, dont get a ps3, consoles are practically the exact same graphics, no use getting it for ps3, just get it for 360 if youre getting console.

PC, cheaper in the long run, mods, superior graphics and performance, and lets face it the Keyboard and Mouse feels much better than a clunky gamepad.

who calls it a gamepad? ""gamepad" just kinda sounds clunky, like something out of the 1980's, but its called a controller to us console players (at least in the US). and whether controllers or keyboards+mouses are better is a matter of opinion which i completely disagree with you about.

I don't have a PS3, and I have a slow computer. The only gaming console I ever use is my X-Box 360, however recently I've been hearing that the 360 is actually rather old and not as good compared to the new PS, and pales in comparison to any good computer. So I'm wondering, is it worth getting a nice supped up computer for playing video games (I like the 360 controller, so I'd have to find a way to play using it on my computer.).

If it is worth it, how much would it cost?

Anyways, apart from that, I'll probably play Skyrim on the 360, unless everybody tells me the PC is waaay better. :P

You say that you have a slow PC... Can you be more specific, please? What's your MB, OS, CPU, GPU, Memory, and HDD?

Edit: Also, what's your monitor?

PC, obviously. Mods have always been an essential part of every game I play, and Oblivion definitely has one of the biggest mod communities out there.

I'll be playing it on my brand new Sandy Bridge computer.

So will I but I am going mobile, the new Asus G73 Gaming laptop, Sandy Bridge Quad Core, Blu-Ray Burner, 8 gig of DDR3 1333m 1.5GB GTX460M, 1TB SSH Harddrives, Full HD Display. My Skyrim settup and I can move away from the wife and kid and play :)

To the OP I also have the PS3 and to its credit, Oblivion still looks fantastic on it! I still sit and stare at wonder at the sun rising or setting across the landscape, I think it has aged tremendously well and I expect Skyrim to look even better! Chances are I will buy Skyrim on my PS3 to start off with and when the good mods start to arrive I will go get the GOTY edition of Skyrim and load it up! Gonna look great on the PC playing in 1920X1080 etc, but then again on the PS3 I have a 52 inch Sony Bravia Screen so it is a tossup. My advice to you if you are not that good with desktop PC's go get a damn fast gaming laptop.

If you're able to afford a nice PC, go with that. With mods and everything, the PC version is always better. However, if can't/won't do that, then get it for the 360. It's not worth buying another console for one game.

I've got an xbox 360 and a ps3 and i'm about to buy a new computer in a few months before skyrim is released. I bought those consoles ages ago because they had some great games that were ps or xbox exclusive like halo (although halo 2 and 3 failed epicly) and fable (can't really remember why i bought ps3 lol).

I've mostly played games on my computer though. Counter strike in the good old days, and a lot of other fun games. The thing is, once you get used to playing with a computer mouse (unless you're a noob who simply can't game ofcourse lol) you'll just get disgusted when playing first person games. Trying to look around and center your mouse on a target whith those thumbsticks is so unnatural.

Another perk for pc games (if you have a good computer) is that you can play the games at amazing graphics which really helps with immersion. Lesser graphics and a thumbstick just ruin it :P. A downside though i that companies want to create their games to be multiplatform games. Almost every good game that gets released now is available on xbox, ps3 and pc only because more people own consoles, it's better money for the companies. Because of that consoles are really slowing games down in terms of graphics really which makes me sad :(.

It's happened to crysis 2, better not happen to Skyrim or i'll be seriously pissed lol (although i'm sure it will).

I know I'll most definitely be upgrading my PC with a new graphics card and either another internal hard-drive or adding an external one too.

I'd suggest heading over to a PC building website and selecting some of the decent builds from there, it's what I did and mine plays just about anything on High-Ultra quality and cost me about £500 (you don't even need to pick the most expensive things as long as you read reviews on how well they perform).

Can you name me some computer building websites that are really good and have easy step by step guides or novices?

I play oblivion on both my PC and 360 depending on my mood, and whether or not id rather sit on my couch or a chair. But Skyrim will have to be a 360 purchase until i get the cash to upgrade my rig.

I've only ever used 360, but I have been interested in trying Oblivion on the PC so I can check out some of the mods that aren't available for the 360. But I don't like the feel of playing on a keyboard. Can you get a controller similar to the 360 to play it on PC?

Aside from that, if you just want to play the game, 360 should be fine. PC is only better because of the mods, unless you have a really expensive kick-ass PC...But I think others have already made that or a similar point...
