What console are you getting Skyrim for?

I've always been a console guy. I will definitely be playing this on my 360.

Even though this game's UI and other user-interactive stuff will be designed for consoles (for controllers), in most cases, it's still better to play these games with mouse/keyboard. It's more fluid, fast and rapid. You simply play the game better.
I suggest you to buy new PC before this game gets out, if you can afford it of course. But if you don't plan to buy PC for any reason, don't buy PS3 either. If you have ever read EuroGamer's 'Digital Foundry' articles which compare PS3 and X360 graphics, the result usually is that PS3 version of multiplatform games runs worst. They look slightly worse (blurry textures, more pixelated shadows etc.) and run little slower in most cases. The different is barely noticeable in fast gaming session, but you can definetly see the dramatic framerate drops which PS3 has in many multiplatform games. I'm not here to flame anyone, but I think you've just heard some PS3 really devoted fan talk about how their gaming device is so godlike. PS3 has BluRay, but other than that, X360 over PS3 imo.

Like someone said above, this forum is so nice, because here seem to be very smart and polite people writing and reading. Me like

(I like the 360 controller, so I'd have to find a way to play using it on my computer.)

I actually play games like oblivion and fallout on my 800$ computer, i have an xbox but i never use it. If you want to go for the PC and still want to play with a 360 controller then i recommend to buy a usb wired xbox 360 controller.

If u feel curious about my system rig take a look:

Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 965 Processor 3.40Ghz
Installed RAM: 4.00 GB of ram.
GPU Graphic card: Ati Radeon 5670
Operating System: 64-bit Windows 7 Home premium
Some extra's: Blu-ray, HDMI and Can play games like Black ops on Ultra quality without lags.

I played Morrowind on PC and Oblivion on PS3. I will definitely buy Skyrim for the PS3 though because that is what I'm most used to these days. PC's are essential for so many things, but imo apart from epic strategy games like the Total War series I think consoles are just more enjoyable to play on.

And about Xbox Vs PS3 - it comes down to personal preference. I had a playstation, then PS2, and now PS3 (among other consoles) - It's not surprising that I prefer the PS3 over Xbox. Little things like the battery free controllers, or free online servers (people seem to think this means a bad service, but I've never had a single problem) make all the difference for me.

If you own an Xbox though, get it for that. Or if you are used to playing on a PC go down that route. I wouldn't listen to anyone else on this tbh, because there are just so many Xbox / PS3 enthusiasts, or PC elitists throwing their opinions around like they're facts...

In a similar post I said pretty much the same thing.

I will get the game for the Xbox 360. I will sacrifice better graphics and mods that are/will be available on PC.

But I will get a better experience with 55"+ screen and 5.1 surround sound.

It is not practical to hook the PC up to the living room TV that has a 5.1 system.

360 and PC

PC just for the sake of modding, it helps me get an idea of what a game designer/programmer does and I have fun changing things in the game.

Can you name me some computer building websites that are really good and have easy step by step guides or novices?

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_To_Build_A_Computer

That is what I used to assemble my first PC (like 2 weeks ago). A big thing to do if it is your first time is to find a build you think works and post it in the general discussion here or on a PC board. That is a big help. Here's my rig (I bought everything from http://www.Newegg.com):

AMD Phenom II x4 Black Edition 3.20
Cougar 700w SLI enabled PSU
Antec 900 gaming Case
MSI Military edition 890FXA-GD65
4 gig (2x2 gig) RAM
Asus DVD Burner
Win7 Home Premium x64
VGA Sapphire Radeon 6950 GPU
1 Gateway 19 inch monitor (center monitor)
2 HP 20 inch monitors (side monitors)

Firstly now is a horrible time to get a new computer especially if you plan on getting AMD. Wait for socket AM3+ motherboards if you are getting an AM3 machine even if you're getting an AM3 processor, unless you never want to upgrade your CPU. There's no telling what kind of things it will do to the price of computers, and if you're getting one for Skyrim in particular now is way too soon. Prices will change by the fall.

There are many advantages to PCs for a game like this but people seriously need to stop making the false claim that somehow PC gaming is cheaper in the long run. It just plain simply factually is not. A home console can be just as ready as it ever was to play new games for 4-6 years. While that's true for most PC games now too the PC is still more expensive (even a "cheaper" one) and it's largely thanks to the consoles that you can play games on such old PCs now.

I still plan on getting Skyrim for the PC (and even getting a PC for Skyrim if I'm able to) but it's important to stay in the realm of reality when making an argument.

I have both a PS3 and a 360, but I only use my PS3 anymore. So, PS3 it is.

If you are one of those people that Need mods at some point, then throw down for a PC.
Personally I got hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of Oblivion on my Xbox 360.
Just bought a new 42" Sharp AQUOS for my room so I'm good to go! :)
I know that if I had Skyrim for PC I would love it and enjoy the mods.. But I can not resist my temptation to cheat. I just can't! :( So the game would be ruined for me on PC.
I find that when sitting in bed, all lights off, playing an RPG on my 360 with just a controller, I feel more immersed in the game! I actually role-play that way!

Now the other side of the coin...

If you want the best first party games go with a PS3. Definitely the best looking console games are PS3 exclusives. PS3 also has a much larger variety of genres. If you are strictly a FPS gamer and want to pay $60 a year for online then by all means get a 360. If you want the best first party games, free online, bluray, and an internet browser get a PS3.

I have both systems and I can tell you first hand I've never played a multiplatform game that was really much worse on the PS3. If you sit down and pick apart certain games frame by frame you may see slight differences. It goes both ways though. Gamespot also has done comparisons and they rated Dragon Age:Origins and Borderlands higher on the PS3. There's others as well.

I've been wondering, how much more power do you guys think will be needed to run Skyrim compared to Oblivion? I figured since it's during the same console generation it wont be that huge of a difference, hardware wise. My current computer max Oblivion (not full anti aliasing) quite easily with half the loading times of the xbox and a lot less loading in the wilderness. Should i be able to run Skyrim better on my PC than on my xbox?

I would suspect that unless they do some major tweaking for the PC version, any PC that can run Oblivion will be able to run Skyrim.

If you decide to build your own. please learn how to do it first.
I see a lot of complaints on forums where people have problems, and it seems to me they did not take the time to learn how to do it properly.
even simple things like grounding yourself, part compatibility, and power requirements.

of course sometimes people can be unlucky and get a bad part in the mail.

The trailer was filmed on the Xbox360, to give you an idea.

A good Skyrim PC would set you back around $800.

But if you can make computers then maybe $500....

If you've ever seen Oblivion runing at 1920*1080 with a full set of 4096*4096 hi-res textures with 200+ plus mods added, you'll know why you shouldn't touch Skyrim with a console :)

Same here.... And add to that a 42" TV I plug my PC into... and it gets ridiculous.

My electric bill goes up... and I will probably go blind soon.... but its so worth it.

I've only ever used 360, but I have been interested in trying Oblivion on the PC so I can check out some of the mods that aren't available for the 360. But I don't like the feel of playing on a keyboard. Can you get a controller similar to the 360 to play it on PC?

Aside from that, if you just want to play the game, 360 should be fine. PC is only better because of the mods, unless you have a really expensive kick-ass PC...But I think others have already made that or a similar point...

I have done so :) The only thing is that Oblivion doesn't come with preset controller options. You can configure the controller using programs but it is never quite the same. Fallout 3, on the other hand, is a game for windows live, and as such works with a controller right off the bat. I would expect Skyrim to continue that trend.

In terms of the controller vs keyboard, I think you just have to put in a bit of time getting used to a keyboard. I played Oblivion first on a controller and and then played the game with a mouse and keyboard. At first the mouse felt awkward, but in a matter of time I adjusted and it was no longer an issue. I think the only problem is getting past that initial hump. That being said, if you really can't get used to it, controllers do work for pc's.

A PC is cheaper in the long run - and if you bought them when they came out, cheaper than buying both a 360 and a PS3. Hell, my last major upgrade cost less than the PS3 alone when it first came out.
A PC is far more flexible (just try writing a term paper on a 360. Also, porm), and has exponentially more titles available.
Despite how hard MS and Sony are working to extend their lifespans, both consoles are at the end of the traditional console cycle.
Even when the two big consoles came out, PC hardware was already a year ahead (a long time for silicon). Now, five or six years later, the difference in hardware is so great it baffles me that those consoles are still around.
Even on my 1-2 year old hardware, I get 2-3x the framerates on Crysis 2 compared to either console.

But if you really don't want to go for a PC - perhaps you're intimidated by the complexity or somesuch (not an insult, some people are afraid to change the oil in their cars), then from what I've seen the Xbox has superior lighting and texture capabilities compared to the PS3. The PS3 has a more innovative CPU design, but its rarely used to its full potential.

Just to provide some context for price, the major components of my system and the approximate prices at the time of purchase:
CPU and Motherboard - AMD Phenom II x4 - ~$300
4gigs of high speed ddr3 ram - ~$100
Gforce GTX260 - ~$250

All the other ancillary bits like drives and the case were purchased separately whenever the need arose or the mood (And cash) struck me.
Which is my favorite thing about PC's - piecemeal upgrades. If you have a case, a monitor and sufficient HD space, don't replace them. People misstate the actual cost of a PC all the time. Consoles would look faaar more expensive if you thought you had to buy a new TV and stereo to go with it.

I honestly hope not. That would mean that nothing had been done to take advantage of the 5+ years of Moore's Law that have brought about an 8-16 fold increase in power over that time. But considering Bethesda's past, even the mightiest of PCs will struggle under the weight of Skyrim at its highest settings.
I look forward to having a good excuse to upgrade some hardware.

Not to discourage anyone from playing on a PC. Any PC would have to be a real piece of crap not to seriously outperform the ancient hardware in a console. The PC I had when the PS3 came out already did that, and it was pretty cheap.
