What Console Gen had the best game selection?

Post » Wed Jan 14, 2015 8:28 pm

I was just talking to a friend, and we were discussing how so far the 8th Gen Consoles (PS4, Xbox One, Wii U) still don't have a great line-up of titles...

So, in your Opinion, what Console Gen had the best Selection of fun and Addicting games?

For Reference:

8th Gen: Playstation 4, XBox One, Wii U
7th Gen: Wii, Playstation 3, XBox 360
6th Gen: Xbox (Original), Playstation 2, Gamecube, Dreamcast
5th Gen: N64, Playstation, Sega Saturn
4th Gen: Sega Genesis, SNES, TurboGrafx-16
3rd Gen: NES, Sega Master System
2nd Gen: Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Colecovision
1st Gen: Pong

*Note, I know there are alot more consoles in each gen i did not put in that list, but that is simply because the average user would not be aware to what they were and most don't have very memorable tiles.. feel free to consider the more obscure consoles in your Decision*

*Note, the reason the Poll is for "which Generation" is if it was "what console" it would quickly dive into a console war.. i hope with just sticking to the broader category of a particular gen that we can avoid such arguments.. much appreciated!*

Hmm..... so hard to pick between 4 and 6. Only used the SNES and PS2 in those gens, but the game selection was just great.

(5th as the runner up. Was not inspired by the PS3 gen. Note: my personal focus is generally on single player games & RPGs)

Hopefully none of the console war crap shows up here.

I picked Gen 6. PS2 and Xbox have some of my favorite games.

My top three would be 4th, 5th, and 6th... but I'm not entirely sure what order I would put them in. I guess 6th would be my #1, mainly because the PS2 was just amazing, although the Gamecube had some standout titles as well.

I voted 6th. I played a lot of Star Wars Games, and the 6th gen had the most (and best) selections.

Hard to say, I like each gen I've played for the games it's had.

Going with consoles, my top 3 are definitely 4-6. Though, it could just be nostalgia blinding me hard.

Hmm, hard choice. My favorite consoles are the SNES, PS1 and PS2; and they are all from different generations.

Although thinking it thru a bit, I think PS1 had the most awesome games out of these 3, so 5th gen it is.

4th and 6th for me.

The SNES and the PS2 both have huge selections that newer gens haven't even come close to matching.
