What Country Should FO4 Be In?

Post » Sun Oct 10, 2010 12:09 pm

Since the setting of Fallout is based on the 1950's dual mentality of SCIENCE! optimism vs fear of nuclear war and communism (in the specifically US version of it to boot) I don't think it would work to place a Fallout game anywhere else than somewhere in the US.

I'd like to see a game set in/around Charleston, West Virginia or Detroit, Ohio or Knoxville, Tennesee or Savannah, Georgia.

I would also like to see a post-apocalyptic game set after a great nuclear war set in, respectively; Russia, the Balkans, India, South Africa, Argentina and Australia. But not with 'Fallout' anywhere in the title.
It would be better to make a separate setting and start with a clean slate for a game like that.

I admit though, the Rad Roo idea is awesome. :P

I think as a spinoff with only a few references to the current series, a Fallout in a country that was going through a similar stage culturally, like Britain, would work, as would an enemy of America like China.

I think there should be a Fallout game set in China. It would be cool to know how the enemy was getting on.

United States, more specific in New York City. Imagine the environment of the ruins of America's largest city.

Fallout 4 and every true Fallout sequel should take place in the United States, to put it anywhere else would loose a lot of the essence of what Fallout is or really cheapen the experience by putting 50s retro futuristic Americana, power armor, vaults, FEV and other things that were found only in the US anywhere else.

Now a spin off game could take place in any country in the world and would only have to follow certain overall guidelines of the Fallout universe such as the fact that said country was an obliterated wasteland and that technology progressed differently than in real history. They could come up with completely new groups of mutations and mosnters different from the creatures in the US wastelands. That would be very nice to see.

Where in the world would you like to see fallout? don't make choices based on sotry about the great war and what not, just purely for a gaming experience.

Me? I'd say Australia. Why? one word, Rad-Roo :celebration:

definitely U.S.

That's the setting of the series, you can't just change that. It would be like Elder Scrolls V being on the moon, or in modern times or something.

The US is a boring place.

I, for one, would like to see Fallout 4 have MULTIPLE countries. Of course, that would be pretty hard, and would likely never get done... but hey!

U.S., just because it is the very foundation for Fallout's setting.

Yeah, and not only that but the whole naive 50's Americana/retro-futuristic/atom-punk thing owes itself to the U.S. Breaking from this would be breaking canon, IMO.

I wish we could have more than one country. Perhaps both US and Russia.

Just a boat ride away :P

Preferably the U.S. (hur hur.. NY!) But seriously. New vegas appeals to me the most for the U.S. because it rests upon my hopes for there to be some sort of area 51 involvement.

Anywhere else.. I'd say.. London, Stockholm, Moscow.. uh.. Dubai? :|

Honestly, I don't think the series should move out of the USA. It's where it began, and there's so much more to explore, and so much potential, that there's really no need to move it elsewhere. Sure, it may be nice to see how everywhere else fared, but for me one of the attractions of the backstory is that no-one really knows, and it'd be too easy to turn it into a contrived canon screwup.

what about the erie stretch? ronto? where's home?

my opinion? all of the world fully accessable, every bit of it, from south american rebellion to the ruined aztec temples in mexico city, europe would be beautiful to go to ruined, especially paris.

we dont even know who let off the first shot, could we find out?

and what about alaska? china? it would be awesome to go to berlin or london, and definitely eastern europe. italy would be ok....

America, specifically, Detroit.

Yes, I will keep making this joke. No, you can't stop me.

Detroit already looks like a fallout game in its present state

i can only imagine what happened there after the bombs fell.... :shakehead:

I would have to say texas. Its far enough away from both coasts so it won't directly tangle with the main characters, but close enough to the NCR that it could possibly be in contact. In addition it has plenty of desert (due to nukes) and urban areas. Fallout should not take place in europe because the war was between the US and China, and europe didn't appear to do much.

I think deserts have been done already in all 3 Fallouts. :) The game could do with some new environments, I loved the irradiated swamps and forests of Point Lookout, I would love to see that expanded; i.e. have it set in Louisiana or Florida.

Heck, why not have a Fallout spin-off in space? That could concievably be an interesting scenario - the population of a space station gets stranded there after the war, and after a hundred years or so the place has miraculously survived through ingenuity (and lots and lots of duct tape,) and their descendants have to find a way back or home or face extinction in a floating tin can that probably should have fallen apart long before...

Although I am European I have to say USA. A Fallout game outside the United States wouldn't be a Fallout game anymore.

I like this idea.

I do think the main Fallout series should stick to the US, but nothing is stopping spinoffs abroad. Would be a nice change.

I wouldn't mind England or Russia.

Why? Because England is the Closest Ally to America and Russia the Closest Ally to Russia (I think) Wouldn't mind seeing how life ended up for the Allies of America and China because they were the Main reason for the Great war

England the closest ally of the US? :biglaugh:

But anyway, i think fallout should just stay where it is
