What Country Should FO4 Be In?

Post » Sun Oct 10, 2010 11:42 am

i dont think fallout should be set in anyother country than the US.
Dont get me wong, i like the idea of exploring the possibilies of what things may look like now all across the world and they unique environments each could provide.. but the game has been set up to centralize on america.. the junk bonds sold in the US to create the vaults. the war between US and China leading up to the great war.. most european nations disolving during the resource wars, or infighting after supplies had run dry..

It's been said earlier that England is legitimate, but I should also like to add that radioactive remains of London, if seen in one of those memorable FO intro scenes, with view ending at the ruins of http://images.easyart.com/i/prints/rw/lg/1/0/Anonymous-Bridge-with-Big-Ben-105708.jpg would be ultra-sweet.

The United States of AMERICA. End of discussion, thread over, everybody go home, nothing to see here, folks! If you want a post-apocalyptic version of your country, make your own PA game series!
this is a thread where people give opinions and suggestions so no, I'm not going home and neither should anyone else, kthnxbai

America, specifically, Detroit.

Yes, I will keep making this joke. No, you can't stop me.
Wha's the joke?? (no seriously, what IS the joke?)

I feel that it should only stay in the USA unless it is a spin off.

Couldn't resist replying to this post.

Although I would like a fallout taking place in europe, i beg what ever higher entity has power over it (probably the devs) that they would keep vault-tec out of it. Vault (tec) is a purely an american based thing and it would screw the canon, and series up if they ever let that happen. This is because Vault tec started building the vaults when Europe was fighting the resource wars. They did not have the funds to build things like that. However, regular VIP Fallout shelters, those used to shelter the governments of nations and important people, are all over Europe and have been build since the fifties and/or sixties. Considering the Diversion it is very likely that these would have been build and it would be interesting to find out.

It is more likely to see stuff like the Red riders, Nuka Cola and hubris comics buildings/reference. perhaps even RobCo, but in my opinion definitely no Vault tec and Vaults. It would not make sense, and would make it seem like a cheap rip off from the series. It's basicly copy pasting the entire US to Europe. If they do Europe the should think of new stuff that add to canon, not overuse the old canon (they nearly crossed that line in FO3 but they can get away with it)

Europe was still fighting the resource wars when the bombs fell, it would be awesome to see that war, basically frozen in time, and survive that wreckage.

just my 2c.

(If you'd say Fallout shelter instead of Vault, " A new strong faction" instead of Vaul-tec and work it out some more, it might become something great.

Yeah, your right about that... hmm, what about... Fallout: the Great War. it begins about a week before the bombs drop. goes fairly linear until you enter the fallout shelter. then it gets free roaming. allowing you to wait until you want to leave the safety of the shelter. and opening to Chicago, or Huston. something like that?

Yeah something like that could work, given good thought and writing. For example: You are a student minding your own business living your life of studying (except that day, cause oct. 23rd 2077 is a saturday). Then, the missile alarms start howling and you scuttle for the campus' shelter. After a (20? 30? 50? years you (or if a long time has passed, your offspring) are forced to leave and survive in the wasteland.

could be awesome...

A spin-off taking place before the war could be awesome if done correctly. But that's a really big if, and it would be better to wait until the new FO franchise sorts itself up before attempting it.

So instead of ruined Corvegas on the streets we get burned out, nuclear powered http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_Minor, instead of skyscraqers we get suburban terraced houses and semidetacheds and instead of the BoS we get the Grenadier Guards with armoured bearskins. :D

In principle I have no objection, but for me a "post-apocalyptic role playing game" set in the ruins of the UK just wouldn't be Fallout. It might be a fine game, but not Fallout...

sounds good.

actually fo4 couldn't be set in the UK because we know how to win a war :celebration: , so bombs wouldn't fall in the first place.

Let's just pretend for the sake of fiction that a bunch of puny colonies didn't whip the mighty Brits in the 1770s and 80s, and that said colonies didn't have to pull your proverbial fat out of the fire twice in the 20th century...

Even then, it's irrelevant because it's already established canon that pretty much everything got nuked. If England in the Fallout universe goes red enough that China won't nuke it, America will. If they stay democratic/capitalist enough that America won't nuke it, China will. You're toast, old chum.

On second thoughts I don't like the idea of a Fallout game set in the UK, like I said it just wouldn't be Fallout, and no matter how fun it is it would lose its satirical edge.

If I was to set a post-apocalyptic game in the UK, I would base it on Ken MacLeod's 'The Star Fraction'. In the Star Fraction you have a "balkanised" UK (imagine the resource wars have happened, but there is no great war) in which Britain is split into tiny statelets run by rival factions such as the "Hanoverians", the Fascitic leftovers of the old UK government similar to FO's enclave, and various other warring communist, socialist, anarchist, environmentalist and nationalist factions all fighting each other in the ruins of Britain; with the UN and USA stirring things up from the outside.

Somebody more familiar with the Lore will have to fill me on how South America fared, during the Great War, but having lived there for many years I'd think it would make an excellent setting. The continent has large deserts, developed farm lands, huge rain forests, large mountain ranges and plenty of coast-line. Tons of natural resources as well. And there are still plenty of people who, due to the poverty levels, live in technological conditions pretty similar or even worse than many of the peoples of the FO universe. So you've got an indigenous population that could have survived much better than Americans or Europeans (depending on how many nukes got dropped in S.America, and how rampant mutations were down there).

Where in the world would you like to see fallout? don't make choices based on sotry about the great war and what not, just purely for a gaming experience.

Me? I'd say Australia. Why? one word, Rad-Roo :celebration:

I agree. It is nothing personal against other countries, but the U.S. is THE setting that Fallout is supposed to take place in. You can't take away the foundation of the series and still expect it to stand.

Hmm, well I would like it to be somewhere lke England, in Cent or somewhere in the country side, and Vault 74 has just ran out of power, you the Vault Dweler has been send a mission to go out and find a new power console, but in doing so, an attack of Super Mutens had broken out, and it tore the Vault apart, no one when up had never came out, and then you go in the Weastland of Where here they put it in England and you and so on and so forth.
Get me, sorry about the spelling.

There are no Vaults outside of the US and Canada. And there are no Super Mutants anywhere but the US. Both Vault-Tec (and the Vaults) and the FEV were projects by the US government.

Also the rolling hills of the British countryside sound like an unbelievably boring setting for any game. I mean... Rad-sheep? I don't think so. What are they going to do, wool you to death?

How about either:

England, London.
America, Florida for the ULTIMATE 'Natural Radiated' disasters, or Texas for the mines, how creepy whould that be?
Many possibilities I'd personnaly go for America... Again, but Definately Texas.
